I first shopped in Claires Accessories whenI was about 12 (roughly). I used to spend my birthday money on sparkly nail varnish and stick on gems.
Im 21, and I dont really shop here anymore. After working there for a few months, I began to actually realise how pricey things were.
So what do Claire's sell? Claire's Accessories, sell's necklaces, bracelets, nail varnish, hair bands, hair clips, hair brushes, Earrings, Belts, Begs. Tiara's, wands, Hats, dressing up stuff & you can also et our ears pierced at many stores by a trained ear piercing specialist.
What age is Claire's aimed at? They sell a large range of different products for different ages. They sell hairbands, hair bobbles, Bracelets, Necklaces and more for the younger children under 12, and they also do a special range for teens. The rest is aimed at older people, which includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings, body jewellery and more! They also do Hen night items such as flashing badges and garters and also dressing up kits such as police-woman, bunny and a range of head pieces and masks.
The bracelets, Necklaces and other products tend to be blocked into colours in the claire stores, so if you know what colour item you want its fairly easy to find. They have a large range of colours ranging from Yellow, Blue, Red, Black, White, Green, Pink and more.
Claires also do gift vouchers.
What are the claires stores like? I've been to a few and experience of working in a claires store, they're not the most easiest store to keep tidy. At the tills they normally have offers, such as 3 for 2, which they will tell you about if you make a purchase. Staff are friendly and most should greet you on arrival & do the best they can to help you. How-ever when I've been in a few stores, i have never been approached or greeted by a member of staff.
Are the prices reasonable? I would agree with some of the prices of various things, such as a plastic bangle, would cost about £2.50, and a beaded necklace to match would maybe cost about £4.00. How-ever they do a range with diamante's in. This includes necklaces, Tiara's, earrings and bracelets. I think these are over-priced as they charge upto £6.50 for a single necklace and its the type of jewelley that'll turn a dull colour and leave a blue colour across your neck/wrist if you wear the item too much.
Ear Piercing Staff are trained through ear piercing and only a qualified ear piercing specialist will pierce your ears. You get the choice to choose from a range of studs, which are avaliable in gold and silver-plated as well as others. Im not sure on the price of ear piercing but I found when I worked there it was very reasonable. With ear piercing, it also includes a bottle of cleaning solution and you can go back anytime with a certain period and get the specialist to check your ear piercings for you.
Overall Impression? Some accessories in claire's are of reasonable price, but I prefer to go some-where like Accessorize as I feel claire's is a bit too young for me (I'm 21!). They do have very good sales at claires and these are woth checking out if you have any children's parties as you can normally get a large selection of things for party bags, etc. This is a great shop to get your hen-night badges, and other items from. I would recommend this shop to parents and to people who have children so their girls can spend their pocket money in there. I feel I could get better quality items for the same price in Accessorize, if I want something for a special occasion or to just glitz up an outfit!
Such a smashing well rounded review even noting the products for the different age ranges. I didn't realise 'Claires also do gift vouchers'. Really good to know. xXx

I think this was a particularly well-balanced view since you had worked there at one time. What always worried me (being the needle-phobe that I am) was that they seem to do the piercings in a part of the shop quite close to the window where others can see but perhaps they don't do that in all shops?
I especially liked your assessment of the target market Claire's is aiming to attract.

I used to shop here but I feel I have grown out of it now (I'm 17) Jules x
