I happen to work in Claire's accessories and i'll have you know that our ear piercing service is not unhygenic or dangerous. All staff are fully trained to pierce ears. Whichever Claire's it was that you went to and witnessed the piercer not wearing gloves or washing her hands, you should have reported her and she would have lost her job. It is compulsary to wash your hands, put on gloves and then use the alcohol based handwash once you have put on your gloves. The table used to for piercing is wiped down before and after every piercing using antibacterial spray. Also the piercing gun is cleaned before and after every piercing using antiseptic wipes ( whilst wearing the gloves ) making them completely sterile. The earings are individually packaged, meaning no bacteria can enter the packaging and the earing comes pre-packed in a tablet which is then inserted into the piercing gun. Different medi-swabs are used on each ear so not to cause infection or spread infection from ear to ear. Using a needle to pierce ears is just as good as using the piercing gun, however , when ears are pierced with a needle then there will be some blood loss from the ear, a piercing gun blocks and blood loss as it completely plugs the hole with the earing. I would highly reccommend getting your ears pierced at Claire's accessories, this may appear to be a biased view , but I would have reccommended it before i was employed there as it is where i got my ears pierced and they were absolutly fine.
As for the matter of cartilage , Calire's are only permitted to pierce the flat part of cartilage around the top part of the ear, if we were to pierce any other part of the cartilage this could shatter it. We also abide by the law that no one under the age of 16 is permitted to get thier ear cartilage pierced. :)

Welcome to Ciao. Nice to know that your employer adheres to the industry guidelines regarding ear peircing. I wouldn't fancy having mine done in my local Claire's store as customers sit in the window in full sight of the busy High Street & I might scream or something!! You have only given informaiton about ear piercing which is great info, but you could get higher ratings if you said more about other products they sold, etc.
Advantages: Undercover shopping, Modern, Mix of Designer Shops and High-Street Fashion. Disadvantages: Can Get Very Crowded on Weekends, You Have to Walk a Long Way Round to Go Up or Down to Next Level, Can get Quite Hot in Shops.
