Hi my names Dave and I am a Herbal Essences a-holic. “Hi Dave, and welcome to HE Anonymous. That’s what I hear every Friday night as I have been addicted to herbal essences clarifying / residue removal shampoo for normal to oily hair. Although I do have myself wondering why they call it anonymous when they know my name.
Anyway, herbal essences is a fruit / herby shampoo made from purely natural ingredients.

Obviously it is used to clean or wash your hair, and it is meant mostly for people with normal to oily hair. It leaves a lovely aroma to your hair so you can have all the lovely ladies sniffing you, or the blokes.
On a more serious note, herbal essences uses high quality ingredients derived from a pure renewable plant source (so nothing is harmed or polluted in the making of this, and their supply wont run out) and uses no animal by-products.

But petrochemicals really baffled me. So, I decided to research it, and I was slightly confused but now I feel slightly higher educated. So to enlighten you here is a summary of what I found.

PETROCHEMICALS
petrochemical, any one of a large group of chemicals derived from a component of petroleum or natural gas. The cracking processes for manufacturing gasoline produce vast quantities of gaseous hydrocarbons. Originally considered waste products suitable only for use as illuminants and fuels, the gases today are manufactured into petrochemical substances widely employed in industry. Important petrochemical compounds are alcohols and aldehydes, butylene, butadiene, ethylene, propylene, toluene, styrene, acetylene, benzene, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, acrylonitrile, acetone, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and ammonia. Materials made from the gases include carbon black, synthetic rubber, polystyrene, polypropylene, and polyethylene. Petrochemicals are widely used in agriculture, in the manufacture of plastics, synthetic fibers, and explosives, and in the aircraft and automobile industries.

\_CONTAINER_/
The container, or as most shampoo’s are, the bottle is made of plastic. This plastic however, is made up of 25% post consumer plastics and it is recyclable. So not only is the product renewable but the packaging is recyclable as well. The bottle is clear in colour and it has a sticker on the back. The back of the sticker on the back (tongue twister) is a picture of herbs that shows through the green coloured shampoo and gives a really good effect. And written straight on the front of the bottle is the name of the product, Herbal essences and the maker, Clairol. Also there is a bit of information people might want to know about the product and the logo. It says, With Rosemary, Jasmine and Orange Flower In Mountain Spring Water. The top is also made of plastic that is harder than the bottom and is designed not to let any of the shampoo out with out the bottom being squeezed. This means if you are unfortunate enough to have knocked the bottle over in the shower, and because you share a flat you have to look round for dodgy people before you feel safe to bend over to retrieve your soap, all your shampoo will no longer poor down the drain but it will stay in the bottle. It can also be screwed off so you could use the bottle for other things.

1) Store home made bath soaps in
2) Urine samples
3) Poke holes in the lid to use as salt and pepper pots, brilliant if you’re a student.
4) Potpourri if you poke air holes.
5) Refill with cheap shampoo and donate to Oxfam so you look generous.

\_THE SHAMPOO_/
The shampoo is called Clairol’s Herbal Essences Clarifying / Residue Removal Shampoo for normal to oily hair. Well in plain English this means nice smelling hair cleaner for people with greasy looking or normal hair and it is made by the manufacturer, Clairol.
Herbal essences shampoo blends natural Rosemary, Jasmine and Orange Flower with plant-derived ingredients to clarify and provide gene cleansing, removing oils and styling build up and enhancing shine.
To apply the shampoo you simply and roughly follow the following steps.

· Carefully wet hair until damp
· Gently squeeze bottle until a small blob of shampoo falls into your hand.
· Massage gentle the shampoo into your hair and feel it nourish and condition your hair as it expands
· Leave for a short while in hair and apply conditioner if wanted.
· Rinse all shampoo out of hair until no white can be seen.

And as the bottle says, for best results use with herbal essences clean-rinsing conditioner.
And here for those of you who understand all these herb things, are the ingredients of the shampoo.
In order of quantity, as in the first in the list is the biggest ingredient and the last is the smallest ingredient.
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate – Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Coca-Midopropyl Betaine, Linoleamidopropyl, PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Parfum, Cocamide mea, Sodium Chloride, DmDm, Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Disodium Edta Copper, Citric acid (Lemon I believe) Rosmarinus, Offinalis, Jasminium Officinale, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis, Propylene Glycol, Diazidnyl Urea WOO WOO hold the phones, writing these ingredients I have just written Urea, correct me if I am wrong but that is a chemical in your pee hmm I wash my hair with this earlier :( CI 19140, CI 60730, CI 15510, Disodium Edta, Propylparaben & Benzoic Acid.

Its amazing how they come across shampoo’s, some one just happened to have all these ingredients lying about and thought, hmm what would happen if I mixed them all together. And the person thought yum, smells nice I think I will lather it into my hair and rinse it out, and herbal essences was born. Or a mass team of scientists spent their life’s making it but that doesn’t sound as good.

The shampoo is in direct competition with L´Oreal Elvive & Laboratoires Garnier range. As they are the main competitors and produce similar products, althoug L'oreal's shampoo is not organic. But i definetly thing that Herbal Essences beats the lot of them.

The shampoo is made in the EU if that bothers you or not and the name is a registered trademark so you will get in trouble if you copy it, same as I find you copying my opinion.

ADVERTISING
So far, to my knowledge they have had to main tv adverts, the first was on the big launch of the product just before it became really popular.
It was a woman on a air plane, and she, might i say was very pretty. But anyway, she went into the toilets to wash her hair on this plane. And she found... Huh, a bottle of herbal essences, man she must of been first class, i would probably find Farm Stores or something. So she begins to wash her hair with this shampoo and oh my god she starts screaming, "Yes, OH YES, OOOOOH YEESSS". And at this point everyone on the plain is like, oi oi, whats going on in there then. oh and might i ad, some times when iv had a hard day it really is like that, you just want to scream when you wash your hair. Back to the ad, She then walks out the toilet and has amazing shiny hair, and everyone looks at her and claps, then comes the logo and title screen.
This is a fairly effective but slightly corny advert, i think it did quite well.
Then came the latest advert, and oh dear if that wasnt a corny disaster what was.
It was situated in a court, like an awfull phony american type court. And there is all this singing, iv got the urge, you've got the urge to urbal. Well i surpose it works as it has stuck in my head. But this girl is washing her hair in the court and all these hunky men are dancing around her, bet you want that to happen when you wash your hair ladies ;o). Then to top it off, the judge says the most corny line i have ever heard in an advert, "ORDER, Order me a bottle of that" oh dear lord, you really didnt pay anyone to write that did you? I dont think this was as effective as the first advert.

Also they have there very own Herbal Essences website, made in Flash so it is modern and fun to use. There is a range of advertising on the site, and you can select the most suitable product for you and browse the other clairol sites. FINAL NOTE
I love this shampoo is leaves you with a fresh feeling and makes my hair all fluffy, it also smells really great and I find the bottle lasts along time. That is very essential when you are a student, to smell nice for the ladies and to have long lasting shampoo because you cant afford a lot. I recommend it to everyone of all ages and all sexes, if you haven’t tried it yet, a bottle is well worth the investment.

I cant beleive two years on and the opinion is still being read, well i better update it slightly.
The price has not infact gone up which is good, you can pick it up in supermarkets for around £1.75 now.

SMELL
There is two different types, one in red and one of them in the yellow colour shown in the picture above. The yellowy one which is what my opinion focus's on is more on effect than smell. But the 'aroma' shall i say is a bit more pleasant, is to die for none the less. it reminds me of oak tree's, not flowers but a fresh nature like smell. unlike most shampoo's which aim to smell like fruit, this is definetly in a league of its own.

Hence the name herbal, because it is based on a herbal balance, and the aroma is also herbal, probably why i got a hint of an oak like smell. and essences because its the essece or as iv been calling it smell, of the herb, nature if you will.

3 years after the opinion was written its still one of the top selling shampoo's and has one awards for its sales. and is apparently avaliable in body care for £1.25 now, although im still yet to see it that cheap myself.
