Good morning Ciao’ers. The Badger is officially a lovely blushing red and yes, he’s posting three opinions in one week. Try to control yourselves!
Today I’ll be reviewing Clairol Herbal Essences Conditioner, when I say reviewing, I actually mean slating it!!
The conditioner was bought over 12 months ago and has sat in my bathroom since then. The reason it was dropped into my basket was due to the special offer it was on with the shampoo of the same name for £2.49 for the two which I considered a bargin.
The Herbal Essences range is available from all supermarkets and surprisingly can be found with all the other haircare products. The conditioner comes in a cream bottle with a green lid and contains 250ml of the said product so it is actually smaller than most other conditioners in the same target grouping.
The packaging really does build this conditioner up, stating that it contains a botanical shine complex that mousturises normal hair and leaves it feeling luxuriously soft and silky with radiant shine. The reason for this is apparently due to the natural organic herbs and botanicals that are contained within the conditioner itself.
So, after washing my hair with the Herbal Essences shampoo I applied the white conditioner to my wet hair and gently massaged it into my scalp before rinsing. I was surprised by the actual smell of the product, it’s devine. A mix of blended fruit with a hint of apple. It was lovely.
After applying and rinsing my hair was left extremely shiny and it did feel very soft and silky to the touch, however it didn’t last long. After drying my hair became very fine and lacked body. The shine faded and it left my hair feeling like straw! The smell however did continue to be evident.
I continued to use the conditioner for over a week and found the same results everytime. After a week I found that I had developed a very itchy scalp so I checked the ingredients. Without going into the specifics, this conditioner contains the same ingredients as Original Source products bar the actual perfumes, and since I never have trouble with those it must be something to do with the actual herbal extracts used!
Once the scalp irritation had developed I haven’t used the product since, but it languishes in my bathroom only to be used occasionally by guests.
So, in summary:
The good points:
1 A lovely smell. 2 Cheap. 3 Easy to apply.
The bad points, and these are really bad:
1 Hair feels limp after use. 2 My hair lacked shine. 3 Left hair with the texture of straw. 4 Continued use irritated scalp.
Would I recommend this product. No! Although it smells wonderful, the bad points really made it’s use impractical. Very strange looks everytime I scratched my head did my chances of meeting the next Mrs Badger no good at all! Bearing in mind this product is designed for those with normal hair, the fact that it made me feel uncomfortable made me steer well clear of this going forward.
There are far better products on the market. If you’re looking for a good reasonable priced conditioner personally I’d rather pay an extra £1 and have Pantene Pro V.
NOT RECOMMENDED

Thanks for reading. Have a good weekend (I’m going to).
Advantages: Works well, leaves hair easy to manage Disadvantages: Tacky packaging, and smelly product
...and a mini bottle of Clairol Herbal Essences (hereafter known as HE) was just one of these. Some people clean their house the day before their cleaner comes round. I don’t (to both cleaning my house, ever, and having a cleaner) but occasionally in the run up to a hairdressers appointment, I might start taking better care of my hair. I’ve been using a cheap conditioner for a few months, but I’d noticed a difference in my hair so ... ...I wanted something a bit more expensive (not pricey pricey, just more than 55p a bottle) but since I decided this on a Saturday night when all the shops were shut for a good 36 hours, I had to use something in the cupboard, ergo HE got tried.
I don’t know why, but I really dislike the packaging. It just looks cheap and badly designed to me, and doesn’t appeal in any way, shape or form. Plus the top comes totally off when you unscrew ...

Advantages: Lovely smell, does the job Disadvantages: None so far
As you know if you have read my opinion about Herbal Essence shampoo (and if you haven’t – why not?) I had 50ml bottles of the shampoo and conditioner as free samples ordered from www.herbalessences.com
I was very impressed and wrote an opinion about the shampoo, but now I have a problem. I want to write an opinion about the conditioner too, but I have recently been criticized for using the same wording on two separate opinions about the same sort ... ...extent.
Anyway just for the purists amongst you I shall endeavour not to repeat words from the first opinion unless I absolutely have to! I shall obviously need to use the words ‘Herbal Essences’ and such like as changing the product name would make the opinion a bit silly wouldn’t it?
The conditioner is the Herbal Essences Moisturising Conditioner for Normal Hair. Whether you consider me ‘normal’ or not is quite another matter.
It came in a container ...

I rarely go to the bother of looking for a conditioner, as my hair seems to be as in good as condition as it could possibly get. It wasn’t until last week. I picked up this by accident mistaking it for the shampoo not conditioner. Oh well I just had to make do with my Headstrong which had been lurking around the bathroom for months.
I have used many of the herbal essences range and found this to be one of the best I’ve tried. I like ... ...The shampoo smells like many in the Herbal Essences range, it smells very fresh and natural. The contents, which perfume this shampoo, are sage and Jasmine and soy protein in mountain fresh water. Most of the Herbal Essences range smells very similar to me but very nice anyhow.
The Bottle.
The Bottle is plastic and is pale green, with a dark green lid to represent the plants, which this shampoo is based around. The shampoo I guess is based around ...

Advantages: It leaves hair feeling and looking soft and shiny, at the moment Clairol are giving away free samples but hurry as offer ends 30th November 2002 Disadvantages: I haven't come across any yet
...Hair. It is made by Clairol and contains Aloe Vera, Chamomile and Jojoba in Mountain Spring Water.
The sample sized conditioner is contained within a 45 ml bottle, which is a good size as it allows you to try the product at least 3-4 times to see if it actually suits your hair - I've found in the past that the free trial sachets I have been sent by other manufacturers don't really contain enough for me to form an accurate opinion about the product ... ...packaged within an opaque cream coloured plastic bottle which is sealed with a bottle green coloured screw top lid. The front of the bottle has a transparent sticker attached to it which advises the consumer of the manufacturer, the product name, the hair type that the product is suitable for, the product size and a list of the main herbal ingredients contained within the product.
The reverse of the packaging again contains a transparent label which ...

Advantages: Smells absolutely gorgeous, leaves hair feeling beautifully soft and silky Disadvantages: As with many beauty products it’s overpriced
Whenever I think of Herbal Essences, I cannot help but recall the television advertisement for the product – which consists of a court room scene with a woman going crazy over the gorgeous feel and scent of her hair, after apparently washing it with Clairol’s Herbal Essences. The judge calls out ‘order, order!’ which the viewer soon realises means ‘order’ in the purchasing sense. It’s both a striking and ... ...men (admittedly this is slowly changing) and solemn proceedings and so this display of female self-indulgence can be interpreted as almost blasphemous. It wasn’t however this advert which enticed me to buy a Herbal Essences conditioner, it was the bargain price of just a pound that I found it for in a shop in Plymouth today. As my hair has been dyed a few times and is still recovering from the chemical treatment, I decided to go for the ‘moisturising’ ...

Advantages: Smell refreshingly gorgeous, as if you're really in the forest. Disadvantages: Doesn't really nourish or make hair shiny.
...What is it?

A bottle of hairconditioner by HerbalEssences.
Special Features?

A conditioner that has been infused with Passion Flower, Patchouli and Vetiver extracts.
The conditioner has been formulated for normalhair, claims to enhance the hair's silkiness and vitality, enrich with moisture and enhance manageability. The conditioner also claims to leave the hair luminous and dazzling with shine.
What do I think of it?
*********************
On first opening the bottle, there is a big sweeping aroma of flowers. It's a gorgeous refreshing smell, not too floral, and reminds me of being deep in the forest near where the waterfalls are! Funnily, this conditioner is called 'Rain Forest Flowers'!
I used this just after shampooing and once again, it smells gorgeous. The smell is...

Advantages: Recyclable bottle Disadvantages: Weak smell and not strong enough
...Now this I totally disliked. I did not finish the bottle.. it was so horrific. I used it together with the corresponding shampoo. The shampoo dried out my hair making it brittle , and this conditioner did nothing at all to help.
The smell was very faint.
I noticed that the "feel" of the conditioner itself was very slimy and greasy.. but it was not absorbed by my hair
Again I want to say that I normally use products for normal to oily hair and have never faced this problem.
All in all, I was thoroughly disappointed by this thing! and I will Never buy it again :(
So there...

..., coloured, full of mousse and hairspray. I am at the moment trying to grow it a bit longer, so you can imagine when you get to that in between stage, were it just looks a total mess.
Ok so I opened the shampoo (but I’m not talking about that)and washed my hair.
Now I came to use the conditioner. A pale creamy/ yellowy plastic bottle with a green lid. On the front of the bottle in green writing are the words ClairolHerbalEssences, and other info conditioner/normalhair etc.
I plonk a blob (a creamy/yellowy blob) on to the fingers of my left hand, as you do, I then dip the fingers of my right hand into the blob, I squiggle my fingers together and then reach for the ends of my flowing locks. (yeah right) more like straggly strands.
WARNING::::::::::Don’t put conditioner on your scalp. It is really only meant for the ends...
