So, the other day, I was shaping my eyebrows in the bathroom (shhhhh, don't tell anyone), when I noticed to my horror, grey hairs round my temples !!!! Oh My Goodness. Not to fear, the Little Angel on my shoulder said, it shows you are ageing gracefully….. However, the Little devil on my other shoulder said I shouldn't be ageing yet, go buy some hair dye !!

The Little Devil won through. A shopping trip was planned for that same day. Morrisons was the shop of choice. So, we piled into the car, and off we went. Now, I should point out that we were going shopping anyway, but it sounds good. I should also point out, that Morrisons IS within walking distance of our house, but I don't have enough hands for Georgia and all the shopping too, as Georgia wants to walk everywhere now, and sorry Carbon Footprint, the shop would have been closed by the time we got there, so, the car it was.

While browsing the Health and Beauty aisle of Morrisons, I came upon the hair colour section. As I was in the market for a new colour, then I decided on RED again. I Love it when my hair is red, it just makes me feel warmer inside, and it makes me feel happy. I spotted on the bottom shelf, in among the array of boxes professing to be the best colour a well-known brand of hair care product, Clairol.

The Product
==========
Clairol Herbal Essences Fearless Colour Permanent Hair Colour.

The Shade
=========
44 Deep Red Radiant Ruby

It is ammonia-free too, which is good, it doesn't sting or smell bad. On the box, there is a label which says "RUB HERE to release the refreshing fragrance", which I automatically did. It smelled really nice, which is a bonus, because hair colour usually smells really chemically, but, not this one, so, a big thanks to Clairol for that.

What's In The Box ?
================

Well, first off, there's the Fearless Colour Liqui-Gel (1).
Then, there's the Fearless Developing Crème (2).
Herbal Essences Evershine Conditioning Gloss (3).
Instruction Leaflet, and a handy pair of re-usable gloves, nice thick ones, not the usual use-once-rip-when-you-put-them-on pair I have experienced before.

Handy Tips
=========

Clairol tell you not to wash your hair for at least 24 hours before you colour, as your hair has natural oils that protect it, which makes it harder to dye if washed immediately before colour, so use this tip wisely.

Make sure your hair is dry, as hair colour takes better to dry hair, I didn't read the leaflet the first time, and washed my hair, and then applied the dye (no wonder it didn't take)…..

Do A Strand Test. Clairol recommend you to do a strand test, by snipping a piece of hair from somewhere it wont be missed, and colouring it 48 hours before you want to do the full head. Mix a little of each into a plastic cup that you can throw away, as if you mix the whole lot, it is no good after an hour, so you will be wasting money. I have used this particular brand before, so I skipped the strand test.

The Dyeing Process
===============

Put an old towel around your neck, to protect your clothes and any fabric around you, as the process could get messy, no matter how careful you (or I) am.

Place a glove on each hand (make sure you get the right one on the right hand, (and the left one on the left)). USE THE GLOVES, OR YOUR HANDS WILL BECOME THE SAME COLOUR AS YOUR HAIR !!

Pour the Liqui-Gel into the bottle with the Developing Crème, and shake well, remembering to point the bottle away from your face, with your finger over the nozzle of the bottle to stop it from going everywhere.

Reddy, Set, Go !
=============

Start the application of the dye at the roots of your hair if you are colouring for the first time. I always do it as if I am dyeing for the first time, as I usually leave it longer than the recommended 6 weeks between dyeing.
Use the nozzle so separate your hair into sections, to make it easier to work the dye into your hair.
WARNING ! DO NOT RUB THE DYE INTO YOUR SCALP IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR HEAD TO BE THE SAME COLOUR AS YOUR HAIR !!!!!

If any of the colour does get onto your skin, use a damp tissue or piece of cotton wool to remove it. While we are on the subject of the cotton wool, I always use some to put round the edges of my ears and forehead to stop any from getting onto my skin that will show (vain bugger me).

NOW WAIT !!
===========

Clairol recommend that you wait anywhere from 25 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on the results you want. I always wait 40 minutes exactly, as I know it gives me the best results I need to hide my unmentionables (grey hairs).

While you are waiting, it is a good idea to wash out the gloves you have used (glad they are nice, thick and strong) so you can use them again when it comes to the next step.

The Rinse.
========

Putting on your gloves again, rinse your hair until the water runs clear. I always use the shower head and hang myself over the bath to rinse, but, whatever works best for your situation is good, just remember how much dye is going to get everywhere !

I find it takes a good 5 minutes to get all the excess dye out of my hair, which I think is the only drawback to the whole process.

The Conditioning Process.
===================

Using a small amount of the supplied conditioning gloss, Clairol recommends that you use about the same amount as the size of the gloss lid, which works for me, but if you have longer hair, you may need to use more. Leave the gloss on for about 2 minutes, and then rinse off.

Style Away.
=========

Now dry your hair, and style as usual. I use my hairdryer and a round brush, and style in my usual way.

The Results.
==========

WOW OH WOW !! My hair is a deep red, shiny mass. I have found that this product gives my hair lots of body, where it usually takes some coaxing to make it lift, I didn't need to put anything on it to make it fluff up. I am very impressed.

The Morning After.
==============

I woke up this morning, and looked in the mirror. Who is this vision of loveliness with the flame-red hair who looks back at me. Silly, it's only my reflection. I have to say (and so does my Husband) that Red Hair does suit me. My Mother is a Red-head, and so it makes me kind of look like her. I have her shape face, and her temperament, fiery when riled…. But, I digress.

My hair still feels silky smooth, and all I had to do was brush it, and not coax it to do what I wanted to today.

Recommendation.
=============

I give this product a full 5 stars out of 5. It does what it says on the box, and it did a whole lot more for my hair than I expected it to.

Price.
=====

I paid £3.98 for my box, which was a saving of £2.00 on the normal Morrisons price of £5.98. Bonus !!

Thanks for reading, and for listening to me drone on about a mundane thing like dyeing my hair. Well, it made me feel happy, when I had been feeling low.

My review has just been awarded a Diamond, so I just wanted to include my very humble thanks to you all for helping to acheive my FIRST Diamond !!
