Clairol's was first established 1931 by a chemist and his wife. The name of the company was taken a hair-coloring preparation the couple found while traveling in Europe. By 1950, Clairol became a household name and now an international product with a vast range of hair product, made even more famous by the catchphrase, "Does she…or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure." As I have mentioned in another review about a conditioner I have highlights in my hair and am now being classed as 'middle aged' I have noticed my hair needs a very good shampoo & conditioner to keep the smooth, silky feeling and shine to it. So when I noticed this range of Herbal Essences shampoo in my local supermarket I decided to give it a go. I brought it with the dry / damaged conditioner that is recommended as its partner.
The Bottle *********** The product was the 250ml size in a transparent bottle. The shampoo has a picture of light pink Rose hip flowers on the back which can be seen through shampoo. This is a good idea from the advertising companies idea to draw you attention to the 'rose hip' extract that is meant to be within the ingredients. The other ingredients listed on the front of the bottle are; jojoba and vitamin E
I have just realised and gone back into my review on the Conditioner to realise that many of the ingredients are the same!! Well no surprise there really - most of these products are all the same stuff with a few selective items. It is the choice of these items and quanities / ratio used that separates the shampoos from the conditioners and their quality.
Two of the different items in this product is the Rosa Canina & Simmondsia Chinensis. These most be the non-chip pan look ingredients.
The Instructions ****************** I was genuinely surprised to see that they only came in English. Most bottles give instructioins in several different languages now. Anyway usually easy to follow instructions ;
Message your hair into a luxurious lather and enjoy the revitalizing fragrance. Rinse when ready. For even softer and smoother hair use with Herbal Essences Silk n Shine Conditioner for dry / damaged hair. ( I do recommend doing this as the 2 work really well together - and don't leave you with a chip-pan look)
What it claims to do for you
1. Protect hair's radiant vitality. 2. Penetrate and help replenish hair's natural moisture 3. Leave hair luxuriously silky and shining with radiance.
Oh - a bit of History on the bottle **************** Herbal Lore
Ancient Greek believed roses became red from the blood of Aphrodite, who pricked her foot on a thorn trying to save her beloved Adonis.
What this has to do with a shampoo is beyond me - any-one with any ideas on that please let me know.
Think the advertisers were running out of ideas and tried to link this bit of a myth to the Rosehip extract supposedly in this prouduct.
The Aroma and Texture ************************** When opening the bottle there is a beautiful smell that does, in a way remind me of roses in a hot summer's garden. It also reminded me strawberries. It is a lovely smell and does have the warmth I was expecting from its soft pink colour. The texture is smooth, creamy and soft.
Using the Product ******************** As I mentioned earlier I had been using this alongside the conditioner suggested and it has proved to be a winning combination. The shampoo has left my hair feeling really clean and soft. As I used it the lather produced an average amount that felt great as I massaged it into my scalp. As I brushed my hair through it did feel really soft and had a good shine to it. Even after straightening my hair felt lovely. I did also notice that it gave my highlights a good boost.
The Conclusion ******************
I have not used this product any differently to other products and had kept to my usual hair washing routine. Because my hair tends to be drier rather than greasy, so I was really pleased with the softness and shine that it has had over the past 2 months. My partner did at first say the aroma was quite strong but not an unpleasant strong. (not sure if that was a compliment or not - but have noticed that when we are sitting on the sofa, chilling, his hand tends to work its way towards my hair and he often rolls pieces around his fingers !!! Not kidding girls - its so relaxing) thanks Herbal Essences for that in particular.
I really do recommend this product for dry, coloured and damaged hair. Its fab. also published in dooyoo under my name pixie1965

Review of Clairol Herbal Essences Shampoo Coloured/Permed/Dry/Damaged
Advantages: Lovely smell! Disadvantages: It follows me!!!
Well, the last few days I haven't had writers block, I've just been fed-up and slobbish. Can't be arssed to write. So, I pondered and pondered what to write an opinion on. I firstly though fragrance, didn't fancy it. Film? No. What else is there? Aha, shampoo! Yes, the thing you put in your hair in the mornings!
So, I had many to choose from. Should I do Nicky Clarke, I thought to myself. No, I haven't used that in ages. L'Oreal? No, not my kind ... ...is very me!!
So, Herbal Essences it is. A gorgeous shampoo, with an equally gorgeous conditioner. Let the opinion begin!
I feel as if Herbal Essences has always been there, next to my Armani and FCUK shower gel. Always sitting there, with its colourful and eye-catching bottle; but in fact, it hasn't been there as long as I think!
Herbal Essences, if I remember rightly, was one of the new shampoos in the United Kingdom. It had been around in the ...

Ladies and gentlemen may I present Herbal [pronounced "Urbal"] Essences Shampoo which is supposed to replenish coloured/ permed/ dry/ damaged hair… I don't know what it is with me and the old barnet but I seem to write quite a few opinions on hair products… So here we go with yet another…
PACKAGING AND OTHER DULL STUFF ... ...well known brand and comes in a flat fronted see though bottle with its name and description in white opaque type and a circle with herbal essences and a picture of a rose on it and there is also a gold ribbon type thing which proudly announce "with Botanical Shine complex"… well it doesn't proudly announce that but there is not a lot I can say to make the packaging sound exciting… its shampoo for heaven's sake! The picture above *is* of the product ...

Advantages: good trusted brand for years/decades Disadvantages: countless and unbelievable
...not for the ad but clairol was a good, trusted brand and i used it as a child and remembered it as something..mmm...very deliciously herbal. It used to be thick, concebtrated and creamy smooth...conditioner and shampoo. But this?
I'll never touch it ever!
THe gel like transparent substance may help to peer through bottles but it kills the entire experience and is rather clinical in texture amd effects.Lathers fast, bubbly but not luscious at all.Feels ... ...itself halfway through while still on the supermart shelf!
Just like washing your hair with plain gel mixed with a little stiff soda scented with wax.
I just can't believe this is a Clairol product!
By the way did they really put florals and herbs in there?Unbelievable!AWWFUL! ...

Advantages: Washes your hair Disadvantages: doesn't do much else
Until a few months ago, this shampoo was a regular in my beauty shelves. I alsway ended up buying one as they often have sales on it in Superdrug ( £.99p a bottle or else two for the price of one).
As a rule, I have three shampoos open at any one time. One is a specialist one, expensive and aiming to attack some horror or other which has besieged my locks-utter dryness, or too much oiliness at the roots...-. The other is a nourrishing one aimed ... ...last has more of an everyday, down to earth feel to it, its aim being just to wash my hair while not costing a fortune.
Into this last category fell Herbal Essences. Its appearance fits the role: a basic clear plastic bottle, cheap looking, with a dark green lid which twists open. The shampoo itself is pale pink and transparent. A totally unobtrusive product.
I used it on wet hair, applying a walnut sized amount with I massaged in for a minute ...

Advantages: fresh Disadvantages: there are no disadvantages
Clairol, Herbal Essences, has to be the best hair care product on the market. In my school year i was regularly perming and changing my hair colour, as we all know, years of this damages the hair in a big way, no matter how many time's i had it cut or restyled, it was always dry and out of control. Untill i found herbal essence, it was like coming across a gold mine, after just the first wash my hair was already in 50% better condition. It shone ... ...after using the product for some time mt hair is like the models on the advert!! I have strayed and tryed other products on the market but none of them even come close, I always go back to clairol. The smell is so fresh, and stays with you allday, even after a night out! and at such a resonable price. so come on get out there and give it a go for yourself. Avalible everywhere.... costing from £1.99 - £2.29 best of all it's in the buy one get one ...
