"So what is your real colour?" My puzzled brother once asked me as I supported a mop of blonde, red and brown hilights it actually looked better than it sounds honest!. I found the hair dye bottle at a relatively young age, in those days it was done for fun now it's don't to cover those rather pesky grey hairs! But lets not dwell too much on that issue please!

The box gives you the usual picture of the young model supposedly supporting the colour you hope you're hair will be. My bug bear here is if she's that young is she really going to have grey hair? Give me a nice pic of a before and after shot of someone with a few grey hairs and I'll be more convinced that it might just work!
The box contains all the instructions, the usual tacky gloves that you always put your finger throw - luckily for me I just erm borrow a pair from work as the need arises! Two bottles of the dye, which you have to self mix and a mean looking sachet of conditioning crème.
Prior to uses in the dye for the first time it is suggested that you do an allergy test, following the clearly written instructions. Should you have very sensitive skin or have previously had a reaction to hair dye then I would strongly suggest you do follow Clairol's advise. Given that I've used hair dyes with out any problems for more years than I care to remember I'll admit I don't tend to follow this advise. Clairol also suggest you do a strand test, I've never actual done one of those before. given that I have fairly dark hair I'm limited to the choices of colours I can use and get a result from. If you have say blonde hair and are looking for something rather dramatic then again I really would advise you did one just in case the results are a little bit too dramatic!
Prior to the application of the dye can I suggest you are wearing your oldest T shirt, you have an old towel to hand, a carrier bag , a cloth and some barrier cream or thick moisturizer. once you are ready to proceed, follow Clairol's instructions for mixing the contains of the two dyes together. Unfortunately the bottles aren't like the Castings system where you just screw one bottle into another and mix you do have to pour the contents of one bottle into another so make sure you haven't got the shakes as you do this!! Apply the barrier cream to the area around your hair line, this really does help prevent any staining to your skin!
The one good thing about "Lasting Color" is the fact it is applied to dry hair. I've often wondered why hair dye manufactors suggest you use it on wet hair when all hairdressers apply it to dry hair. Given that most hair dye is on the runny side it just adds to the drip factor if you apply it to wet hair. With "Lasting Color" the drip factor is practically eliminated.Clairol suggest that you apply the dye first of all to area's where you have the most grey for a more even colour coverage. It is suggested that you leave the dye on for 15 minutes or up to 30 minutes if you have more grey. Unfortunately I'm rather naughty, given the fact my hair is rather dark for me to get any resemblance of a colour I tend to leave it on for at least an hour or more if I've forgotten about it. This wouldn't be a practice I'd recommend for people with lighter coloured hair.
Applying the dye is relatively easy as the bottle has a long nozzle which adds application. you should make sure you apply an even coverage to all your hair as this will obviously give a much more natural even colour. Once the dye has been applied I then use the carrier bag as a most fetching hat - stop sniggering at the back. This helps avoid the dye going all over the towel, my clothes and any other object I might come into contact with. I then wrap a towel around my head and go do something which avoids opening the door or contact with light coloured furnishings!
Clairol then recommends you rinse the dye off thoroughly and apply the mean amount of conditioner leaving that on for about 2 minutes. I tend to use my normal brand of conditioner and leave that on for a further half hour due to the fact I have rather dry hair to start with and we all know how bad hair dye can be for our hair.
Results wise "Last Color" does give a natural looking non dyed look to my hair, but as for it lasting for 24 washes I'd have to say it doesn't. Unfortunately it tends to fade after a few washes on the areas I was trying to hide in the first place ie those pesky grey hairs. I did think at first this might have been due to the fact I'd used a lighter shade than I would normally, but the same happened when I used a slightly darker shade. Given that Clairol marketing aim for this particular dye is at those of us who unfortunately do have some grey but want to grow old disgracefully, I find this rather annoying! After having used this dye twice I returned to my old faithful Castings.
"Lasting Color" is readily available in most Supermarkets, Boots and Superdrug. It comes in a variety of colours including blondes, light and dark browns and reds, so there is bound to be a shade to suit most people, but if you want to cover up the odd strand of grey I'd recommend you use another product!
Advantages: Covers grey well, leaves hair glossy and soft Disadvantages: Get colour all round the shower tiles when rinsing off hair!
Clairol Lasting Colour is a non-permanant hair colour that is designed to cover grey hair and is available in a range of different colours. It has recently been repackaged and updated and seems to have been combined with the 'nice and easy' range as this name now appears on the packaging. It does say that the product is 'by Lasting Colour' and the shade guide numbers (eg. 76 =Light Golden Brown)are the same as before, but, it does now appear to be ... ...it, but it is quite a small branch and it may be available in larger stores. I have managed to buy it in Tesco and they have a good selection of colours. It costs £3.78. Often you can find the product on a 2 for £6 offer or something similar.
The packaging consists of an outer box which shows a photo of a woman with the hair colour that the contents of the chosen box is supposed to produce. This is quite useful as a quick guide when making your ...

Advantages: SHINY HAIR Disadvantages: COLOUR TOO FLAT, TOO DARK, TOO PERMANENT
...A £4.99 bottle of Clairol Lasting Colour should do the trick I thought, and medium golden brown sounded relatively safe and rather refined. Armed with the product I secluded myself in my bathroom, candles lit, aromatherapy oils at the ready with talc, perfume and bubbles galore I relaxed in the bath with the Lasting Care evenly (so I thought) plastered over my luxuriant (well o.k. brittle and damaged) tresses. After the relevant time I washed the ... ...In a nutshell. Clairol Lasting Care is one of the new so called demi haircolours, ie., it is not permanent, but neither does it wash out very easily. The product contains no amonia and I have to say my hair has been shiney since using it, but I would have preferred a medium brown shine to the one I'm stuck with.
The colourant is relatively easy to use you merely mix the actual colour to another (presumably chemical) agent in a separate bottle. This ...

Advantages: ? ummm gets rid of the grey Disadvantages: little change
...grey streaks. I purchased a clairol last week I purchased a Clairol lasting colour light Ash brown.
cost about £5
I mixed the crème colorant with the developer lotion
It was east to apply. I just piled my long locks up high and treated the (shhhh) grey first then the rest.
I massaged it in well with my plastic gloved hands trying to be careful not to get the colour anywhere else.
I came down stairs had a cup of tea and 15-20 mins later rinsed ... ...it with the conditioner provided. I then dried my hair with a hair drier and my hair felt quite good soft and silky,
How did it look? Well my greys are now a light brown the rest of my hair little different to how I started not any lighter,
I am a little disappointed. Still my greys are gone ummm well they are not a dissimilar colour to the rest of my hair a little lighter maybe. They do blend in reasonably well.

...pleased with the results. However, Clairol was on offer in Boots so I fell for it and chose one called Warm Dark Brown. The woman on the front looked very pleased with herself and her hair was my natural colour, which I am trying to get back to after years of experimenting with reds. This was a rich, warm brown with a definite chestnut shine to it. The application was easy and didn't take too long, mixing two ingredients together and applying to ... ...development period though, which means I have ruined one towel - disadvantage #1, it stains and stays. It is also difficult to make sure it's evenly applied and I ended up not putting enough on the ends of my hair (which is pretty long). When I washed it off, after the directed 15 minutes, massaging in warm water before rinsing, it didn't take too long to come out - which is good. However, the resulting colour was much darker than I hoped and it ...

This was another experience in my monthly search for the hair dye equivalent of Mr Right. I tried this out because I think the marketing campaign is so cheesy, their product cannot be worse. This wasn’t too hard to apply even in the tiny shared bathroom of typical student digs. I enlisted the help of my flatmate and also partner in crime, Jenny. It wasn’t too pungent and when I washed it off, although I wasn’t ready to have an orgasm ... ...with the end result. The red I had chosen had deep coppery overtones which gave it a more credible look than some of the Manga-type hairdos you see walking round Covent Garden. The only problem was that the dye stained my skin. Even after 5 days, there was no mistaking the patches behind my earlobes. (I have shortish hair) In actual fact, I really fell in love with the colour of my hair but I wouldn’t dare try this again because I was fairly ...

Advantages: A good natural effect Disadvantages: None
Usually I go into the local discount store, pick up a packet of Schwartzkopf Poly colour and that suits me down to the ground. Last week I was in for a big surprise, I went to the shelf and searched high and low without success, the colour that I normally have wasn't to be seen.
The assistant suggested that I try one of the new Excel 10 range, I didn't like to tell her that I already had done and found that it was too harsh a colourant for my hair.
I gazed along the shelf and wondered what to experiment with, I could have gone to the chemists but as soon as you go through the chemists door the prices are inflated so I decided against.
I haven't tried a Clairol Nice and Easy for years and as I looked along the available colours I saw one called golden brown. I have light brown hair with more that its fair share of grey, in fact to ...

With so many hair colours in the world now which one are we suppose to choose I hear you screaming!? Answer: Clairol Nice 'n easy range! I've gone through them all, I really have and until buying this one I never found one which was perfect for me. With other brands i would get dye stains on my head, on the sink and in the bath, on my clothes, on my towels and just in every crack you could imagine! I've always been obsessed with the colour black, not that I'm a big goth or anything but I just love it so naturally i've always wanted my hair black too so when i went to Tesco's a couple of weeks ago, this was the last one so i decided to give it a try...

Anyone who knows me knows i love colouring my hair and especially with anything red.
Hence my latest purchase which was an absolute bargain from my local Pound Shop - Clairol Loving Care Colour Creme in Mahogany.
Clairol do 3 different Colour Levels and this is a level 1 which means it will only last 6-8 shampoos which is fine by me because i get bored very quickly with my hair colour.
Loving Care Creme is very rich and thick and this enables it to penetrate each hair strand giving you even better grey coverage.
It contains Vitamin E, nutrients and proteins which leave your hair in better condition than before it was coloured.
Its very kind on the hair because it does'nt contain any ammonia or peroxide and so is as gentle to your hair as a normal shampoo.
Very SImple to use.
