I am a self confessed label junkie when it comes to make up and beauty products but as I'm a student I have to make sure products do what they say, last a long time and are good value even if they are expensive; I can honestly say that Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is probably my most loved product and is a staple in my make-up box.
Clarin's is one of the brands where the 'pay for what you get' saying is the absolute truth. The Flash Balm is packed full of natural ingrediants and is suitable for the most sensitive of skins (which mine is).
The recommended application is once to twice a week and it can be used as a fine layer under make-up or as a thick layer left on for 15 mins. Personally I go for the fine layer under make-up whenever I've got to look my best and want my make-up to last.
For best application, and I've had advice from a Clarin's professional on this one:
1) Apply a small amount of moisuriser to freshly cleansed and toned skin, if you have dry skin, otherwise this step can be skipped.
2) Wait for the moisuriser to dry.
3) Get your make-up ready standing by, you need to act quickly after its applied (no time for rummaging through make-up bags!).
4) Apply a small blob, about the size of a 1p coin, to the end of your fingers tips.
5) Press yur hands together so there is an equal amount of balm on each hand.
6) Start at your nose and work outwards, so that your whole face is covered in fine layer (including your eyes and neck), do not rub in te balm but let it sit on top of your skin. (My own method is out to the cheeks, out and over my eyes, down to my chin and then up to my forehead).
7) This is when foundation needs to be applied; for maximum staying power and flawlessness, use an oil free foundation applied with a make-up sponge while the balm is still slightly wet on your skin. By the time your foundation is applied the balm should be absorbed and any concealer and powder can be used, apply the rest of your make-up as normal.
Personally I find that this method allows my make-up to stay fresh looking even after the longest of party nights and it helps eliminate 'hang-over skin', when your skin starts to look better after a night out on the tiles you know you've found a good product!
As a side note I also found that if my skin had an out-break of spots and I'd not been able to resist 'extracting' them (you know what I mean), then a layer of the flash balm helped heal my skin and evened out any red or blotchy patches.
I would recommend anyone saving up for this product, its well worth the money and it lasts ages!

I just wanted to add to this that many people have remarked that Superdrug have brought out a similar product 'Instant Radiance Balm' I just wanted to state that I would save the £4+ and put it towards the real thing! Although I found that the radiance balm did soften my skin for a temporary period, it in no way moisturised or conditioned it. After continued use my face became dehydrated and sensitive which resulted in me having to purchase another 'real' moisturiser to correct it. I will write a full report shortly.

Didn't realise Superdrug bought out a similar product.

I remember when I used this many many years ago and loved it - I was also a student then, so when I finished the product I couldn't afford another at the time. I'll go buy one soon!!
