I was given a tube of this 'wonder cream' as a Christmas present from my in-laws just last Christmas. It sat inside my dressing table drawer until about three weeks ago, still in its original box/packaging etc, unused.
I don't know why it's taken me so long to open the box and read the 'instructions leaflet' and actually use the stuff - maybe I was having a 'premonition' about it?? I have to say, Clairins Beauty Flash Balm, or, as it states in the French (also on the packaging/tube) "Baume Beaute Eclair" has been probably THE most disappointing beauty product I have used, EVER!! I've used a lot during my years, but this stuff does not live up to the hype, so don't waste your money.
The tube I was given is a 50ml (1.7floz) size and I believe it costs somewhere in the region of £17.00 to £19.00 in major department stores. I've noticed recently that you can also purchase this 'wonder cream' in most branches of Superdrug, for slightly less dosh.
After I had read the directions for usage which come in the box, along with the tube itself, (which incidentally, is large enough to resemble a manual, primarily due to the fact that they are printed in a number of foreign languages), I finally got to the Englsih version and learned how I was meant to apply the stuff.
The cream itself is white in colour, fairly medium in texture and consistency and does not have any smell that I was able to detect, although I have to say that I still had the remnants of a cold at the time, so this may account for the lack of any odour. The tube and (enormous) instruction leaflet advised me to apply the cream either morning or evening (or both) in a very thin layer (without massaging, for some reason) all over the face, neck and eye area. I believe it can be used either with or without make up. On this particular occasion I decided to forego the make up, (it was a weekend, and I wasn't going anywhere), and I waited for the miracle that was meant to happen.
I kept waiting, and waiting. I went downstairs and made myself a cup of tea, and fed the cat. Whilst doing so, I could feel a sort of mild tightening of my skin (a little bit like the feeling you get when you apply a face mask). Not really the sensation I'd been expecting, but, hey ho. I went back upstairs and had a look at my face. Was I refreshed, did I have a more youtful and radiant complexion?? I don't think so! In fact, I have to say, the tightening feeling was making me feel a little uncomfortable, but I persevered.
My husband commented that I looked 'greasy' (charming)!, and my daughter told me I looked 'shiny' - not the comments I was hoping for, but never mind! I used this product again the following day, this time I applied less and used make up directly afterwards, as advised on the tube. Again, no difference whatsover!! I must say that I don't hink I'll be wearing it again either, as the tight feeling I experienced is strange, unpleasant and makes me want to wash it off straight away.
I've commented on my experience to a friend, who, incidentally, swears by the stuff, and she suggested that maybe I was applying too much. I've tried small amounts, large amounts and amounts in-between but I still can't get away with it. I have used many Clarins products over the years, and generally speaking I do rate Clarins very highly. Their BeautyFlash Balm though leaves a lot to be desired. I do feel it is vastly expensive for what it does .... (nothing) and it certainly does not live up to the hype. But then ,maybe my expectations were just too high.
This aside, I also feel that Clarins could do more to promote their product in terms of its packaging. A plain white tube/box with red lettering in English (and the French equivalent underneath) does little to inspire, I'm afaid. It's boring packaging, with a boring product and next time I want to look refreshed, radiant and youthful, I'll look elsewhere - please, don't wast your money!!
