Before I launch into an eloquent and far-reaching review of this product (!) I feel it would be consumer-friendly of me to point out something important at this point: THIS IS NOT A MIRACLE PRODUCT…. For those of you who have not now clicked the Back Browser in disappointment may I reassure you with the following words….BUT IT ALMOST IS.
The Clarins Eye Contour Gel is specifically designed to deal with puffiness and dark under-eye circles. There are also some other claims made of this product but really I couldn't mention them with a straight face. Oh, okay then, well apparently this gel also "tones the eyelids". That's great, I always wanted people to stop me in the street and go "ooh, your eyelids! Do you work out?". Ahem.
The gel is non-sticky and non-perfumed and can be applied morning and evening. I put a very small amount on my ring finger and rub the gel on in under my eyes. It is extremely light and very easily absorbed. If I'm going to wear eye make-up then I also put some gel over the top of my eyelids. This creates a smoother surface for applying the eye-shadow.
The gel is supposed to be soothing and refreshing. Well, let's not get carried away. It feels slightly cooling, and therefore refreshing, but then again putting water on your eyes would feel pretty refreshing too, eh? The cooling effect doesn't last very long, only about a minute or 2. After that, the gel has been pretty much absorbed. The skin is left feeling smooth and a little bit tighter, though not in an uncomfortable way. I normally apply a little stick concealer under my eyes and it goes on very evenly. I also notice that eye-shadow is crease-free for longer when applied over this gel.
You Ciao-ers out there with sensitive eyes or those of you who wear contact lenses will be pleased to hear it is also suitable for you. There has been the odd occasion where I've put the gel on first by mistake and then had to try and put my lenses in - forget it, you'll have to wipe the gel off and start again! It's almost impossible to hold your eye open and you end up getting the gel onto the lens, and…oh, if you wear contacts you'll know what I'm talking about!
The listed ingredients are: Serrated Palmetto extract, Apricot, Alchemilla, Dog Rose, Shea, Palm, Butcher brook. No, I'm not sure what half of them are either!
As I'm still a young 'un this gel suits me perfectly. I have had disappointments with some eyecare products from other upmarket brands but not from Clarins. After only 2 weeks of using the gel my dark circles were almost gone, I couldn't believe it. My eyes still get occasionally puffy but much less frequently than before. For those of you with more mature skin then the Clarins Eye Contour Balm may be of greater benefit as it is more suited to handling those smile lines around the eyes.
The tube is quite small, but the amount you need is also very small. I find one tube lasts a little over 2 months with me. It costs around 12 pounds, but shop around. I usually buy my Clarins products at a Clarins counter because then I can always ask for a load of testers for their other products - hurrah!
To sum up, Clarins Eye Contour Gel - Probably the best eye gel in the world…..ever.

Advantages: Cooling sensation Disadvantages: Expensive, some of the promises are overrated
...with the dark smudges. The Clarins Eye Contour Gel was suggested by a counter person. Since then I have tried many Clarins products, but this is one of only 2 I have bought twice.
I first purchased this with a moisturiser and received a slew of free samples, and a hand mirror. The second time i received it in a gift pack for christmas. As such, I dont know how much the tube retails for.
The gel comes packaged in a 20ml tube with a screw on cap. ... ...has a gold stripe. The text on the front claims in english that it is for "puffiness, dark circles". On the back is the claim that it is made of "Plant extracts: 80%". It does not mention what the other 20% is, although i assume this was on either the outer box or the leaflet which it was packed with, but these are long gone. Sorry.
The gel itself is a transparent blue colour. The scent is minimal, as one would expect from any product designed for ...

Advantages: Visible results, reduces dark areas around the eyes, soothes tired eyelids, absorbed quickly Disadvantages: Expensive to buy and difficult to apply
...am a big fan of Clarins products but find them far too expensive to buy them as often as I would like, they tend to be essential items or bought as treats after a busy month at work. After a hectic time at work where I was working 12 hour days my eyes resembled something from a horror film, they were red, puffy and had deep dark bags underneath making me look something similar to my 70 year old grandma and I knew it was time to try something and ... ...came at a price. £15.99 for a small tube of the gel.
When you first use the gel you notice the lack of fragrance and the fact that it seems to slip straight off your fingers it is that watery! Only a small amount is needed and once you have it on your fingertip you need to quickly rub it into the area below your eyes and then onto your eyelids. The gel is absorbed really quickly and there is no irritation at all.
First impressions were that it ...

Advantages: it really works, lightens bags, tightens the skin around the eye Disadvantages: expensive
For the record I rarely use lotions that describe themselves as a miracle cure but I personally was drawn to the Eye Contour Gel after a prolonged period of staring at a VDU at work for day after day that resulted in my eyes being sore which in turn led to them looking puffy with comparisons being drawn between me and a Giant Panda much to the merriment of colleagues.
I bought my gel for £9.99 which seems steep for such a small tube of the gel but ... ...its weight in gold as it gently smoothens, reduces the bags in the eyes and generally makes the whole eye area look a thousand times better. It really does work, and the improvement in the look of my eyes gave me a little boost when looking in the mirror and I wasn't too self-conscious after a day of staring at my VDU.
It was a little weird at first as I don't like putting things near my eyes, but the gel is really slippery so it is only a bit worse ...

...by the effect.
If Clarins had marketed this as a remedy for dark circles I'd give it five stars, as it worked. However as the claim about puffiness was, at least for me, incorrect, I can only give it three stars. Advantages: clean and pleasant to use; a tube lasts for ages Disadvantages: none
...remains one of my favourite Clarins products, and one which I recommend most often. It's a very light, non-greasy and non-sticky gel. It's not for people who need a lot of moisture on the eye area; but if puffiness, dark circles and/or sore eyes are you problem, then this is the product for you. You really only need a tiny bit for it to be effective, but you can pat it on during the day, even over make-up if you're careful, if you work at a computer ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Did not remove eye bags
I bought Skin Doctor's Eye Tuck from BeautySleuth. It cost £29.95 for 15ml. It claims to "reduce the appearance of puffy eye-bags in weeks".
The claims made for this are pretty unbelievable. It says that it can even be used as an alternative to cosmetic surgery! I therefore thought that I'd give it a go, even though it is quite expensive. I don't have very bad under eye bags, but they are bad enough that I thought I'd try and get rid of them.
I'm afraid to say that this did NOT work. I have tried Clarinseyecontourgel, which also claims to get rid of puffiness, but like that there was no difference to the size of the bags. I used the cream twice a day for 4-5 months and there has been no change. Although the cream is yet to completely run out - you only need a very little - I have abandoned using it as it has made no difference ...
