I first purchased this eye gel in 2000, after a long-haul flight from Sydney to London. I wasnt interested in a "wrinkle defence" or "anti-wrinkle" eye cream, and I didnt want anything too greasy or heavy as I suffer from combination oily/excema prone skin. I was looking for something cooling, soothing and moisturising, which might help with the dark smudges. The Clarins Eye Contour Gel was suggested by a counter person. Since then I have tried many Clarins products, but this is one of only 2 I have bought twice.
I first purchased this with a moisturiser and received a slew of free samples, and a hand mirror. The second time i received it in a gift pack for christmas. As such, I dont know how much the tube retails for.
The gel comes packaged in a 20ml tube with a screw on cap. The cap is transparent with a opaque white inner, and has a gold stripe. The text on the front claims in english that it is for "puffiness, dark circles". On the back is the claim that it is made of "Plant extracts: 80%". It does not mention what the other 20% is, although i assume this was on either the outer box or the leaflet which it was packed with, but these are long gone. Sorry.
The gel itself is a transparent blue colour. The scent is minimal, as one would expect from any product designed for the sensitive skin arround the eyes. The gel is easy to get out from the tube, but be careful not to squeeze to much from the tube as a little goes a long way. The way to apply the product is to use the pad of the finger to gently tap the skin under the eye until there is a thin, even layer of gel. This is suprisingly easier and less time consuming than it sounds, and it feels like a light massage. The gel is then left to absorb, which it does quickly without leaving any residue.
It leaves a very cooling sensation on the skin, which is lovely after a long day, or when you are really tired. Its especially nice on a hot day. Once the gel is absorbed it leaves the skin feeling soft. To be totally honest, I didnt notice alot of difference to my dark shadows, but I wasnt expecting it to. I rebought the item on the basis of the lovely cooling sensation.
The gel didnt aggrivate my excema, or cause any redness. It isnt so heavy as to cause pimples if I happen to get any on my t-zone. It is on the costly side, especially compared to supermarket brands, but I was impressed with the effects. I would recommend the item.
