I purchased a Clarins Christmas giftset in the January sales this year and I only got around to using a month ago. In the gift set I received a 15ml of this product and I am just at the end of the product.

Retail Price

It retails at £39.00 for a 30ml. It can be purchased on the Clarins website and in department stores such as, House of Fraser, Debenhams as well as in Boots. Or the website called Cheapsmells.com it can be bought slightly cheaper at £32.95.

Packaging

It comes in a hard almost frosted blue pump bottle with a white lid which has a gold rim. It looks very smart and the rest of the Clarins Hydraquench products are in the same colour packaging.

How to Use the Serum?

This is a serum to use underneath your day and/or your night cream. Only two pumps are required and from my experience it should be spread quite quickly over the face because when I first used this product it almost seemed too liquid, I by accident pumped far too much into my hands and I lost a lot of the product as it just slipped through my fingers. Its consistency is only a little more than water really. It is very thin, but it is surprising the results it has had on my skin. My skin felt plump and completely hydrated.

What does the Serum do?

It is part of the Clarins Hydraquench range which is fantastic for dehydrated skin. It is a bi-phase serum which means that it has two parts to it so it requires shaking before using. I always have very dehydrated skin because I never drink enough water. The product works to comfort and hydrate dehydrated skin as well as restore the skin's moisture barrier to prevent the loss of anymore moisture from the skin. This is turn means the product helps to fight premature ageing because loss of hydration is one of the key problems which causes premature ageing to start off. Additionally an intact moisture barrier prevents unwanted irritants from entering the skin. The serum has vitamin E in it which helps to protect against free radicals. I have read up on free radicals and I have found out that they make other molecules in the skin unstable and it is like dominos, one by one each molecule becomes unstable. This is not a problem until they make protein molecules unstable which affects the collagen in the skin causing it to damage and break. This is therefore the start of premature ageing.

My Experience

I not only have dehydrated skin but I also have oily areas in my t-zone and my skin is quite prone to blemishes. But I have had no problems in using this product. It never makes my skin greasy, it is absorbed quickly yet it feels like my skin has been plumped out by moisture, making it feel very comfortable. Despite saying that my skin did require a moisturiser after applying this serum, because it is a very thin product which is not going to add the benefits that a moisturiser would. Additionally in the day time I always think a sun protection factor should be worn which is in my moisturiser which I put on after the serum.

Conclusion

I love this product and I would recommend it to anybody who has not found a good serum. I do not think it would matter if you feel like you have dehydrated skin or not, this serum just makes my skin feel wonderful! And I am sure we all have those times when we have not looked after our skin as well as we should have done and this product would just help to regain the skins hydration and protect it from premature ageing! This is a great addition to my skincare products and I will certainly purchase the full size one now.
