I was lucky enough to receive this product along with the Relaxing Body Polisher and Relax Bath and shower concentrate, from my long suffering other half, for my birthday last year. Bless him, how did he guess? OK, I admit, I attached a full page advert to his PC, complete with a few pointers from my trusty highlighter.

As a Clarins devotee, I have worked my way through most of the range on my "prescription” from the nice lady in Boots. The Clarins Aroma Body Care range was something I hadn’t used before, and after a trip to Boots to see if I liked the scent, I decided that the range was destined for my (rather crowded) bathroom shelf. The Aroma Body Care range comes in either Toning (yellow packaging) and Relaxing (Blue) and each has it’s own set of Shower and Bath Concentrate, Body Treatment oil, Body Polisher and Body Balm.

I am reviewing just the Body Balm here, so I will stick to just the balm. The rest of the product range can wait for another review.

The Body Balm retails at £22.00 for a 200ML tube at Clarins concessions, which can be located in larger Boots, department stores and some chemists. I am sure it can be bought for less on the internet, but I haven’t looked. The box is the distinctive Clarins White box with the Clarins emblem in red and gold. The box contains your tube of balm and Clarins usual extensive information and instruction leaflet. As I have said before the tube is Blue and bears the Clarins emblem, proudly stating that it contains “Relaxing Body Balm with Essential Oils”.

On opening the tube and smelling the contents, I find it has a very faint orange smell- very pleasant and not over powering at all. The balm is quite thick, but not gloopy (is that a word?). As I type, I have put some on the back of my hand and it has a subtle orange scent.

Anyway, back to my road test on my birthday. After trying out my shower gel (sorry, Clarins I can’t keep typing “Shower and Bath Concentrate”) and feeling suitably relaxed, I decided to try my prized balm. After patting myself dry (I’m told moisturiser goes further on slightly damp skin) I applied some. The balm was very soothing and pleasant to apply. It was easily absorbed into my skin and not at all greasy. Happy with the results, I slipped into bed and drifted off to sleep! I am not claiming this to be a cure for insomnia (which I sometimes have) but it did relax me and make me drift off. I thought this was a one off, but it has had the same effect since.

After using the Balm, my skin felt very soft and smooth and still felt nourished the next day. I also find the Relaxing Body balm gently warming (yes, I do use it after a shower, but I use other moisturisers after a shower and they don’t make me feel warmed). I did feel very relaxed (well apart from the time my OH set the kitchen on fire as I got dressed my shower. THEN I didn’t feel so flaming relaxed).

Clarins advise you to apply this with upward, sweeping movements, from ankle to waist then from hand to shoulder, after a shower or bath. I’m not that organized, I just apply it in no particular order!

Clarins have dermatologist tested this product. I have fairly sensitive skin, and I got on well with it. I have never had a reaction to any Clarins product that I have used.

The web site describes this as “Pure pleasure for the body, pure pleasure for the spirit”.
They are not wrong- though at £22, maybe not pure pleasure for the bank balance!

The Essential Oils contained in the balm are:

• Apple seed Oil (Hydrates)
• Petit Grain (Relaxes)
• Basil (Calms)
• Bitter Orange (Regenerates)
• Chamomile (Relaxes)
• Geranium (Alleviates)
• Linseed (Protects)
• Marshmallow (Softens)
• Sweet Almond (Nourishes)

I don’t use this every day- I can’t afford to use it any more than as treat every few weeks. I still have the tube that I got for my birthday last year- I don’t think I have much left in it though. This is expensive, but I like it so much that when my tube runs out, I will replace it. Clarins have a promotional set of a full sized tube of balm, a small bottle of the body treatment oil and a half sized shower and bath concentrate in a hanging bathroom organiser for £28 (the sign in Boots claims this is a customer saving of over £8). I have seen this in the past week in Boots, Debenhams and Alders. I am very tempted- the set is available in Relaxing or toning and the colour of the organiser matches the product.

It’s my Birthday in a few weeks… so who knows, a few more of my subtle hints I might be able to review the Toning Body Balm, Polisher and Bath and Shower concentrate. Now, where DID I put that highlighter?

The studio I use for 'waxing' & 'pedicure' is a Clarins outlet, so I get freebies every time I go. Wonderful aren't they ? Cath x

Can never afford to spend this much on bath products... all my money goes on clothes and make up so have to settle for simple soap! Sarah x
