WHAT'S IT FOR? Unlike the description on the packaging I will come straight to the point! This is an exfoliator. Combining essential oils and salts, it is designed to smooth your rough bits, leaving them zingy fresh and moisturised, while releasing a smell that puts a smile on your face and leaves you feeling relaxed. Well that's my experience of it anyway! And as you can tell, I really liked it - and I didn't expect to. Not really a huge fan of the 'premium' beauty brands - due to the hype and the expense - I thought Clarins was overrated, but on this occasion I admit that I found this to be a really good buy. It was a sad day when the jar was finally empty.
WHAT'S THE PACKAGING LIKE? The body polisher comes in a square, cardboard outer box. The product itself was 250g and comes in a sunny yellow light plastic jar with a white screw-top lid. Open the lid and the product is further protected under a plastic disc with lift-up tab. In the box is a sturdy plastic spatula, which makes it easy to get the product out of the jar - no diving in with your fingers and getting gritty stuff under your nails!
HOW DO YOU USE IT? To use the Clarins BodyPolisher you gently massage it into clean, wet skin, concentrating on rough areas such as elbows, knees, feet. The instructions advise you to use it once or twice a week, which means the jar lasts just over a month.
It wasn't messy to use because of the spatula. Getting the product out of the jar is like scraping butter onto your knife. As a fairly solid textured product it holds together well and is easy to control in your hands and rub into your skin. After the texture, the next thing you notice is the wonderfully refreshing minty smell, which is gorgeous and sends a tingle up your spine.
The natural oils in the product obviously give it a slight oily feel and together with the fine, salt crystals throughout, these give a great exfoliating effect with little effort. Clarins Toning Body Polish is easy to apply and didn't drag the skin - in fact it was quite the opposite. As you begin to rub it in the oils come through and slide over the skin. When you've finished, with just a sloosh of water the crystals wash off and the oil remains in the skin leaving you feeling moisturised but not greasy.
When you use this product in the bath, the 'salts' do seem to dissolve in the water and there is no trace once the bath has drained. The sides of the bath are left a little oily though.
DOES IT WORK? I concentrated on my upper arms and the soles of my feet. My upper arms had dry, raised 'pimply' looking skin with a varied complexion. My heels and the balls of my feet were dry and cracked.
My skin felt lovely after using this product - smooth and moisturised. By the time I finished the jar the skin on the back of my arms definitely felt smoother and moisturised, and had a better, less-patchy complexion. My feet felt nourished and smoother after use and the effect lasted for days.
I also actually enjoyed using the product and the smell was lovely and relaxing.
WHAT'S IN IT? Ingredients include: Crystals of salt and sugar for exfoliation and 'polishing' Rosewood, which refreshes and stimulates the skin Geranium Hazelnut Palm Rosemary - a de-stressor Shea, which nourishes the skin.
Because of the scientific names I am not sure how natural some of the other ingredients are, for example, butyrospermum parkii and octyldodeceth-25.
HOW MUCH IS IT? Doing a search on the internet today, the lowest price I could find was £14.40, plus £1.99 delivery. Boots sell it at £25.
A COMMENT ON PACKAGING I question why products that are trying to be natural come with outer packaging. I think Clarins could work out a way of fitting a spatula under the lid and foregoing the outer packaging. And why not use glass instead of plastic?
