Exfoliating is one of the most important steps of my skincare routine and one that makes the biggest difference to my biggest body irk - the tiny bumps that appear on the tops of my arms when my skin is a bit dry. The Clarins Toning Body Polisher is one of the best exfoliators I've found and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
It's both a sugar and a salt scrub and is packed with essential oils - rosewood, geranium, hazelnut, mint, palm, rosemary and shea - which all work to moisturise the skin, as well as exuding gorgeous smells. It has a really fresh, intense and invigorating smell which really perks you up in the morning - initially it's very strong but calms down when you start to use it. To use, you simply apply a generous amount to damp skin - the moisture means that the scrub almost melts into your skin and the grains don't feel at all harsh on the skin, just nicely exfoliating. Make sure you're skin isn't soaking wet as the grains can melt too quickly on very wet, warm skin - I like to use it in the middle of showering and then rinse off.
The effect on this skin is great - this is one of the only scrubs I use that doesn't require a moisturiser afterwards! The oils leave a kind of thin film over the skin which is pretty water resistant so you don't need to worry about rinsing it off. The effect of the exfoliating and then the moisturising barrier leaves my skin baby soft and really smooth, even on the tops of my arms and on the tops of the legs as well (another problem area for me!) Clarins call this a toning body polisher, and my skin certainly does feel a lot more toned after using this, although obviously it's not a miracle worker! It's the perfect thing to use before self tanning, as it's not at all harsh and won't irritate the skin.
It comes in a 250g pot with a screw top lid. The packaging, as you can see from the picture is pretty plain but classy - the plastic pot is nice and thick and without picking it up you could easily mistake it for glass. My only complaint is that the white lid can get a bit grubby, but that probably says more about me than the product! If you're using this around the bath or shower you do need to make sure that you don't let water into the pot as it will cause the crystals to melt before you want them to!
It costs around £25 for a pot of this and lasts me over 6 months using it once a week, which isn't terrible value when you consider average spend per use. It's a lovely luxury treatment and the only exfoliator I've used which comes close to this is Soap & Glory's Flake Away (which is very similar but more salty, while this one feels more sugary)
