Time Travel at its Best
Advantages: In depth yet straightforward storyline, can be played multiple times Disadvantages: Difficult to obtain a cartridge
Chrono Trigger is a turn-based RPG for the SNES with an incredibly captivating storyline. It has up to seven playable characters: four of which you leave behind and three which you take with you. From then on it is rather easy to switch characters. As a side note, the main character, Chrono, never speaks, and his non-speaking is not noted on within the main game. It also introduced a revolutionary concept called the "New Game+", which let you play ... ...unique endings.
The core to Chrono Trigger's plot is time travel. The game starts out in 1000 AD with three of the main characters: Chrono, Lucca, and Marle. You pick up a robot named Robo in 2300 AD, as well as characters Frog and Magus in 600 AD, and Ayla in 65,000,000 BC. The game also features time travel to 12,000 BC, 2000 AD, and "The End of Time". "The End of Time" serves as sort of a home base. ...

A Break From the Monotony
Advantages: Unique aspects of gameplay and plot Disadvantages: Hard to obtain a cartridge, can be sometimes glitchy: save often
...elements of gameplay seen in Secret of Mana. However, unlike many others do, this game should not be compared to Secret of Mana, as both RPGs have completely different aims.
Story:
The game starts out with a medium-length intro. It shows you (the character has whatever name you give him, if not given a name he is called "the boy") in 1995, just coming out of a movie theater. Your dog chases a cat into an old abandoned laboratory. You follow him ... ...gameplay is where similarities to Secret of Mana can be seen. The menus are organized in rings, the bosses look similar, you acquire new weapons but it is just like upgrading in Secret of Mana. However, there are a few more unique aspects. Weapons are leveled up by usage, and you level up also. Your dog serves as a partner in the fighting and you can play as him as well. His "weapon" (his bite) levels up as well. The AI is rather advanced, you can ...

Time to shatter the Illusion
Advantages: Stunning game-play and addictive nature Disadvantages: The guide can ruin it - although you don't have to look...
When I joined Ciao oooooooh about a week ago or so, I was determined to do plenty of reviews on games that have touched my heart over my years of gaming. I was therefore very pleased to find this sweet little nut buried in the archives, and was very pleased to read wizpip's review.
Similarly to wizpip, I think that this game is a very accomplished games and certainly one of the better RPGs on the SNES.
The game starts off, you controlling young ... ...but before long it is decided that Will should go on an adventure and save the world.
The storyline might not sound like much initially, but believe me, it becomes very involved and engrossing and there are many a deep and meaningful message about the way we humans live, it even made me question myself once or twice! I don't think I can honestly say a game has done that to me before!
The game itself can be devishly easy at times,(fit the diamond-shaped ...

Not your usual RPG
Advantages: Unique combat system, cool special moves Disadvantages: Very long?
...there was a game called tales of destiny relelased which was made along the same lines as this game but for the playstation.
The introduction of the game has 4 unknown warriors battling a powerful wizard and just as their losing, one of them casts a spell. This ends up sealing the wizard in a tomb and you see a pendant above it. 10 years after this epic battle we finally meet our hero Cless Alvein. His father calls him to talk about his pendant... ... ...We also meet his best friend Chester. Now the 2 go hunting in the woods. Seems dull and boring I know, but now that the party is in the forest and you get into battle, you will experience the unique system. This isn't a turn based RPG its real time! You control the main character and your allies are computer controlled! More on this later. Our hero then has a vision about a woman who tells him to protect the large tree. After that, we find the boar ...
