Advantages: Wide variety of material covered, interesting, lots of fieldtrips Disadvantages: possible expense of uni tuition!
...first choice. I was predicted BBC at Alevel and with those grades hoped to study straight Archaeology at Reading University. On results day I found I did quite badly all around and 'only' came out with CDD, and only just enough to get into the Bournemouth course.
According to the University website, the next year's (2007) entry requirement is currently BC at Alevel (180points). This gradually increases across the year and the final requirement is BBC (280points). Luckily for me, I applied quite early and got the lower end of the offer range, otherwise I would not have made it in!
The course is gradually gaining a good reputation, and I believe this will only be the third year it has been run. Archaeological and Forensic Sciences (AFS) is a three-year course. In my class there are currently just under 20 students, and I believe around...

...& the hippies. One thing you will study is Ken Kesey, author of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and his Merry Pranksters. They took LSD and toured the country in a psychedelic bus. I found this module pretty interesting.

- Radical theatre (Sam Shepard)
- Punk rock & literary experimentation (Patti Smith & Jim Carroll)
- Alternative lifestyles & subculture (Charles Manson)

Advantages: The department is small enough to give individual support, but has enough expertise to give you a really good degree Disadvantages: no-one outside the department really understands what you've spent 3 years doing
...Remind me, why did you do Biblical Studies?
I ‘fell’ into this course because I wanted to do Philosophy and the only way I could do that was by doing dual honours with Biblical Studies. By the end of the first year I had swapped to do single honours Biblical Studies because I enjoyed it so much.
But you don’t believe in God, do you?
The course is not your standard religious studies or theology course. It focuses entirely on The Bible, in all its manifestations, and on all its effects. I studied subjects as varied as archaeology, politics and gender studies. As part of one module in my first year we even spent Friday afternoon watching films including old Hollywood Biblical epics, and of course Monty Python. If you are looking for a course that will simply re-enforce any religious beliefs you hold then this may...
