...to be well hidden. Most Clearasil products in particular seem to leave an unwanted fragrance on your skin, which I often mask with aftershave but this probably cancels out the effectiveness of the treatment. They also need to be well rubbed in or completely washed off, if you are in a rush and forget a little bit that gets behind your ear for example; you are then left to embarrassment, when your friend is kind enough to alert you to something that ... ...doesn’t have the usual pungent Clearasil smell to it and as long as you rinse your face well, no one will be any the wiser.
• No Dryness – Compared to other available products on the market it is certainly not the most likely to cause you irritating dry and itchy skin, but in comparison to simply using a daily flannel wash, it does cause noticeable dry flaky skin especially in areas on and around the nose.
Conclusion more
As a 'maturing' teen I, like many other teenagers, have encountered a day to day conflict with the dreaded hormonal spots. Also, like the majority of teens, I have long been searching for the ultimate solution to flawless skin.
My spots are relatively mild and I definitely have no real right to complain in comparison with the very unfortunate people, who are suffering from severe acne, but I have still tried a wide range of products and found all of them disappointing in one way or another. I am sorry to say that this daily wash is no real improvement on any of the previous.
Firstly I’ll explain exactly what I mean by the ‘ultimate’ solution to flawless skin and then I will rate the product against each of these factors (remember this is from a guy’s point of view, girl’s will probably have a very different opinion on the ‘ultimate’ solution).
The ‘Ultimate’ Spot Solution:
• Fast Acting – A cleanser that shows clear results and reduces spots overnight. This is because it’s easier to apply spot treatments at night, as ‘us’ teenagers often find it hard to get up in the morning and are then rushing around getting ready for school or work. Therefore have no time to apply spot cleansers!
• Minimum Fuss – An easy to apply treatment, with no mess and a quick and easy application. I definitely don’t want to be spending any more time dealing with spots, than it takes to brush my teeth. Especially not clearing up any mess or trying to figure out how to use it effectively. I find the products that tell you to wash your face beforehand annoying because surely that is what the product is meant to do; I mean that’s why I bought it!
• No Pain – They may say no pain = no gain, but none of the over the counter products say anything about causing any pain on application, though they cleverly disguise this by stating you will feel a ‘cooling’ sensation. This makes you accept the tingling and stinging sensation that some of the products cause, as it is a way of reassuring yourself it is working. However I am sure that this is simply a placebo type method that makes you think your spots are improving. The prescribed spot treatments do work but they tend to burn when applied to sensitive areas on the face (especially around areas that are regularly shaved). So the ‘ultimate’ would be one with the same effectiveness as a prescribed treatment, minus the pain.
• Long Lasting – Basically a cleanser that only needs to be applied once a week. I have a busy lifestyle and as said above; have little time to worry about fighting spots. One application a week would be ideal because it could be applied every Sunday night and as long as it’s fast acting as well, then you’ll be spot free from Monday morning.
• Low Cost – Quite simply; one that isn’t going to cost a fortune as most teenagers are students and therefore can’t afford to spend a lot of money on spot treatments.
• Inconspicuous – A treatment that is not highly noticeable. If a cleanser does have to be applied in the morning and worn throughout the day, then it at least needs to be well hidden. Most Clearasil products in particular seem to leave an unwanted fragrance on your skin, which I often mask with aftershave but this probably cancels out the effectiveness of the treatment. They also need to be well rubbed in or completely washed off, if you are in a rush and forget a little bit that gets behind your ear for example; you are then left to embarrassment, when your friend is kind enough to alert you to something that resembles toothpaste stuck on your face.
• No Dryness – One that does not solve your spot problem by simply drawing all of the moisture from your skin and become cracked, causing large dry areas and itchiness. This seems to be common in the products that actually get rid of spots, but they certainly don’t give you flawless skin. In fact the dry areas are usually more noticeable and the itchiness more irritating.
So they are the main factors that I feel are required by a spot treatment, in order for it to be classed as the 'ultimate' solution and now I am going to state how this product fares against them.
• Fast Acting – Well the ad claims that spots will clear up within 3 days and to be fair they do seem to fade within that time. However my spots generally seem to fade within that time whether I use a treatment or not. It did help prevent new spots from surfacing but no more than simply washing my face with a flannel now and again whilst showering daily. So this makes me wonder: what difference does using this treatment have to a flannel? Well the flannel didn’t dry my face out and leave me with damaged skin.
• Minimum Fuss – It is effectively used in the same way as soap; rub a small amount into the palm of your hand, apply to your face and then rinse well. It is a daily wash though and has to be used morning and night to stay effective, whereas I can get away with one flannel rinse and obtain the same results. It isn’t a messy product to use and thankfully it doesn’t require you to wash your face first; just wet it.
• No Pain – The product scores well here as there is no reason to dread applying it all around the face because it doesn't burn, you just experience the common ‘cooling’ sensation as described by most. Although beware if you accidentally get it on your lip as it will certainly give you more than a tingle then.
• Long Lasting – Far from it! I applied the treatment as stated on the bottle; morning and night for a week. I miss one application and woke up the next morning with more spots than I started with! So it will basically last effectively throughout one day or night and if you forget it once, the dried residue that you did not wash away will clog your pores and cause even more spots to surface.
• Low Cost – It can easily be bought for under a fiver but I really wonder why it is even worth that much. I can’t explain what exactly it does different to ordinary soaps. It is affordable enough but to be honest you’re better off just buying a flannel to use whilst in the shower.
• Inconspicuous – Definitely doesn’t have the usual pungent Clearasil smell to it and as long as you rinse your face well, no one will be any the wiser.
• No Dryness – Compared to other available products on the market it is certainly not the most likely to cause you irritating dry and itchy skin, but in comparison to simply using a daily flannel wash, it does cause noticeable dry flaky skin especially in areas on and around the nose.
Conclusion
In all honesty I found no obvious benefit to using this product in contention with simply using water, a bit of soap and a flannel. Although all skin products affect different people in different ways and what works for one person may not work for another, I have been very critical of this product simply because I have proved that it does not matter whether I use it or not; I still do not have the flawless skin that is so enticingly advertised. Even shaving appears to give me similar results, because the aftershave cleans my pores just the same as the Clearasil. I now do not use any kind of spot treatment and keep my face clear by washing once a day with a flannel, shaving regularly and eating a healthy well balanced diet with plenty of salads. At least this way you do not have to spend wasted time or money. For those of you who suffer from severe acne, this is very unlikely to show any noticeable improvement and you are better off getting prescribed medication than using any over the counter products.
Verdict – You’re better off washing your face daily with a flannel, hot water and a bit of soap, whilst eating a well balanced diet and avoiding greasy fast foods.

Review of Clearasil Medicated Lotion Sensitive Daily Cleansing
Advantages: Fragrance that has a kick Disadvantages: Left my face feeling dry and tight, blackheads continued to grow, synthetic fragrance
...I went in search of Clearasil Sensitive Lotion, the daily cleansing agent.
Actually finding a supermarket that stocked the Sensitive version was tricky. Both my local Asda and Tesco stores had the normal Clearasil lotions but didn’t stock the Sensitive. In the end, I found a supply at my local Boots store and have since seen it in my local Lloyds chemist. Availability I would therefore say is fairly hit and miss affair, as is the variation in retail ... ...see that the bottle of Clearasil stated that it would cleanse my face of grime and bacteria thus reducing the chances of acne and blackheads. Unlike the other facial products I use to combat unsightly outbreaks of acne and blackheads instead of just using it in the shower with Clearasil I had to apply the lotion to my face, allow it time to absorb and then use 3 or 4 cotton balls (something I hate doing) to wipe any unabsorbed lotion from my face. ...

...bad acne and finding that Clearasil helped. Because they both had such bad acne I started using Clearasil during my very early teens as a preventative measure and I am sure it was the reason I stayed virtually spot free. That’s the good thing with Clearasil as opposed to some spot and acne treatments, it can be used to prevent spots as well as get rid of them.
Why would you use Clearasil?

I think first and foremost people ... ...Another good thing with Clearasil is that it can be used on sensitive skin whereas some other spot treatments cannot. The only thing I will say is that if you suffer from dry skin then this product might aggravate that particular problem. During my period my skin tends to become greasy and Clearasil helps reduce that but I find normally that if I use Clearasil every day my skin can become a bit dry through time so if you have dry skin already this ...

I've been a purchaser of Clearasil ever since my teenage years - and even now that i've passed my spotty adolescence days I still use it to this day!!!! That fact alone, shows how loyal I am to this product.

...picked up a bottle of Clearasil reluctantly in the super market. At this time as I was on my own in the supermarket I would have to pay for the bottle myself and being the price that this stuff retailed at then it took some persuading by the label for me to part with my cash. Ever since then ... ...My secret has always been Clearasil though; I find this product gives me great results every time I use it.
I chose the Clearasil brand as it was the only brand of skin lotions that I had heard of at the time. From time to time over the last few years I have tried some other products just as a sort of comparison. None of these other products seem to get the same great results though. Overview
