Their claim ========= They claim to give you a visibly clearer face in 3 days! They help get rid of existing spots and help prevent new ones from forming! They say that they help to control oil so it reduces a shiny appearance of the skin and it supposedly deep cleans the pores.
With this sort of claim, it was worth giving them a try.
Who are they for? ============== I have been battling with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome for years and being 24, it isnt fun not having a clear face because people hold so many incorrect beliefs about spots. Its definitely not about lack of cleaning but rather about an over production of grease. This for me, is caused by an increase in testosterone levels and its not something that can easily be treated. These pads are only being used to get rid of one symptom and doesnt make any effect on the root of the problem. They can also be used for teenagers when they go through that difficult years of spot prone skin. This treatment however, is recommended for people with bad skin and not dry skin because it is rather potent and worth avoiding if you have sensitive skin. I'll go into that in more detail later when I describe my experiences.
The packaging ============ The pads come in an easy to open round tub that contain 65 pads. The labelling on the container is clear and easy to read and understand. It is important that the instructions are followed carefully.
The pads ======== The pads are a round shape with a nick in the circle to allow you to get the pads out easily of the container. They are the same texture both sides unlike many other pads on the market. I was disappointed not to find a rough and a smooth side to this pads. The texture consists of very small square shapes and this seems to be a compromise and is somewhere between the rough and the smooth sides of other pads ive used.
How they are used =============== The pads are gently wiped around your face being careful to not get the cleaner in your eyes, mouth or up your nose. It is important to avoid all delicate skin as this can be very drying and harsh on the skin. If you get it in your eyes, immediately wash it out as it will sting. You do not wash off the cleaner left on the skin and it stays on there until the end of the day. I do not think they are best used for removing make up and anyway, they are suited for removing eye makeup. Thats going to hurt.... I would suggest using a gentle towel like cleaner or something gentle that goes on some cotton wool to remove the makeup because you will be getting through more than one pad to get rid of all the makeup and this seems wasteful. I tried using a cheap cucumber based cleaner i got from Boots for this and then afterwards used the pad before going to bed. This way i used less of the pads and it worked out less costly and cleansed better.
My experiences ============ First thing i noticed was how disgusting they smelt. It was very unpleasant and smelt of bleach. This is because it does contain bleach! I found it easy to get a pad out of the tub and wipe it around my face but after a second or so of using it, my face started to burn. It was similar to rubbing Deep Heat across my face! One of the major problems that acne sufferers have is that they might have patches of raw delicate skin and so applying alcohol based products can lead to a lot of discomfort for a minute or so. This product was awful! It felt like a combination between Deep Heat and alcohol poured into a cut and it didnt go away after a minute either. It made my face go red and it was bad for a good 15 minutes. I found that if i used the product more, my face would get used to it a bit but i never quite got over the feeling of it. In the end, i gave the tub to my housemate to try. Her skin used to be spot prone but now only gets the odd one. She described the cleaning feeling as "refreshing". I'm not sure if i was particularly sensitive to this product or she was down playing the feeling with sarcasm but for someone with mostly normal skin with the odd greasy moments, it seems to be okay. I would be careful when using this product and do some tests first rather than launch in and clean the whole face in one go as for me, the experience was very unpleasant and i didnt know what to do with myself for the minutes that it was burning!
How well they worked ================= It is very hard to say because i did not try them long enough to find out. I would use them here and there and found that i couldnt possibly use them over 3 days to find out if they did what they claimed to do. I would say they helped remove dead skin but from experience, a good exfoliator would do the trick too. As for deep pore cleaning, theres are a lot of other products that would work as well without the grief and worry about the bleach. I would recommend the "normal" Clearasil pads as they are less harsh and have a similar sort of action on the skin and with the convinience of not having to wash the cleanser off.
I use tea tree becuase of its antibacterial properties and i feel this is far more effective and more natural. It can take longer to work but it doesnt leave the nasty stinging on the face that these pads do. Anyway if the acne is that bad, then most over the counter products aren't going to be worth the use and its best to go and see a dermatologist where they can prescribe drugs and a good routine. Surprisingly, ensuring you have a clean pillow at least every week can help to limit the spread of bacteria! Sometimes acne is better treated using gentle cleansers because potent chemicals can aggreviate it and make it worse so for those people, a gentle tea tree face wash might be a better option.
Warnings ======== It is important that you do not get the liquid from the pads onto anything that might be damaged by the bleach. Remember to wash your hands very carefully after using the pads as not to get the liquid in your eyes by accident or ingest it. I suggest also putting a white towel over your pillow at night because sometimes the bleach can come off and leave patches on the pillow and it looks a right mess. I would also be careful with not getting bleach onto your favourite clothes too as it has the potential to ruin it. Ensure you keep the pads away from children as the liquid is harsh on their skin and might cause them some discomfort and potentially some damage. My overall advice is to just be sensible with these pads. They are strong stuff and if you know your face is sensitive, its worth not trying them in the first place.
Where can you buy it? ================= It can be bought at Boots and although I have not seen it, probably in the skin care section of larger supermarkets and other chemists.
Price ==== Boots sells them for £4.99 and this works out to be 7.7p per pad so thats not an unreasonable amount to spend and the tub lasts more than a month at a time.
Overall ====== They seem a good price and easily available but far too harsh for me. The worry that i might bleach my clothes and bed linen was also something that put me off these pads and therefore i am not going to try them again. They might work well on other people and might even on me but i was not going to put my face through all the grief that they caused me and the discomfort. There are better things out on the market for people who want clear skin. I would suggest tea tree and for people who still are not responding to this treatment well, try a benzoyl peroxide based cream. Ideally one with about 2.5% because its not as harsh and drying on the skin. For more information about this, try looking at www.acne,org where theres reviews of many products that acne sufferers have tried and how to use benzoyl peroxide properly to get the maximum benefit from it.
For anyone who has this problem, i really do feel your pain and lets hope more products come out on the market that really work well.
Note: not sure if Ciao realise this isnt actually a shampoo but rather a face cleaning product because the options below don't make any sense for this product!
Advantages: Cleanses Disadvantages: Pricey and dehydrates out your skin
Clearasil Ultra Deep Pore Treatment Pads are designed to "fight spots and reduce redness to give you visibly clearer skin in just 3 days". The product is clearly marketed at teenagers with problem skin - the adverts on TV for Clearasil products usually feature a teenager getting ready for a party, realising that they have a spot, getting despondent that the spot will ruin the party, being advised to use Clearasil and applying it. By the end of the ... ...that I've been trying is Clearasil Ultra Deep Pore Treatment Pads. The pads come in packs of 65 which cost around £4.99 and are available from chemists and most supermarkets. The packs recommend using the pads twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening. That's a cost of £60 a year if you use them every day as directed. I think that's quite a lot personally and probably more expensive than most other facial cleaners. The pads are quite ...

...suitable for sensitive skin, but Clearasil do offer alternative pads that are more gentle to the skin. I am personally wary of using these pads on my face as I prefer something less harsh on that part of my body.
However, if anyone out there suffers from what is beautifully known as 'backne', then I would strongly recommend this product. I have experienced no discomfort on my shoulders and the spots seem to have almost disappeared.

Advantages: Visible results in a small amount of time Disadvantages: Smell of product
Clearasil products are alittle on the pricey side, however, when I began using them I understood why they cost that little bit more than other brands. The chemicals in these products are superior to some other brands, and help achieve results in less time.
I purchased the clearasil ultra cleansing pads, which were £3.89 on offer at asda. To begin with, I used these after cleansing, with my origional products, so after cleansing my skin, I used two ... ...cleanse.
Clearasil cleansing pads have a strong penatrating action on your pores, targeting dirt, bacteria and impurities. They work by drawing out impurities, cleansing the pores, hence preventing further spots appearing.
I generally just gently wipe the pad over my face, in curcular motions, the pads are designed fairly well, with a cut-out, so they are easy to pick out of the pot. Deep cleanse
After cleansing, I like to get a clean pad, and ...

Advantages: Smells nice Disadvantages: Left skin dry
After spotting these on the sheleves in boots I decided to give them a go mainly becuase it claimed that I could have clearer skin in 3 days, which to me seemed great. The tub is circular with a metallic blue lid, the tub itself is white although there is a label on this which is metallic and shines different colours in differnt lights from pink to purple to green although predominantly it is blue. I have to say this makes the product look very funky ... ...at teenagers. When you open up the lid you get a smell which is very clean and reminds me of the smell you get from baby wipes, so overall this is pleasent as I was expecting it to be quite a strong smell of antiseptic which would have put me off using the product. Inside the tub are the pads which you have 65 of this seems quite a good amount although I think it still works out pricey when your paying around £5 for them! You are supposed to use ...

Advantages: Brilliant for quick cleansing after a night out when you need something with minimal effort Disadvantages: The smell isn't particularly enticing, and watch not to leave the lid off - dry pads.
I tried out these Clearasil ultra pads as I'm a big fan of the Clearasil range. I think they're usually good value for money and produce good results. However I have to confess I was a tad disappointed with a couple of aspects of this product.
=== LOOK ===
First off, the look. The packaging's very shiny and futuristic, however I wouldn't say it was pretty. Perhaps Clearasil are trying to appeal to both sexes with the design (a zingy blue) but in ... ...patterns on either side (although Clearasil don't make it clear if each side provides different cleansing).
Cleansing your face with it can be a bit rough if you press too hard, but get the pressure right and you get a good exfoliation. Skin tingles and definitely feels like it's getting a full MOT! If you have a full face of make-up on you may need a couple of pads to remove it all, and remember eye-make-up is a no-go here.
I like to splash my ...
