There are lots of pregnancy tests on the market to choose from but Clearblue, made by Unipath is a brand that has always given me confidence. You know that you are buying a quality product that will give quick and accurate results.
The other day while browsing the shelves of Boots I noticed a new product in the Clearblue range. It is a new digital test that claims to give “Unmistakable Results”.
The box contains 3 tests and costs just £14.99 so it works out cheaper per test than the single test stick that retails at £8.99 or the double test kit at £11.99. I still think this is expensive and you could get tested by your doctor for free but when you suspect you may be pregnant you do not want to be waiting for an appointment or waiting for results so I have always been happy to pay my money for instant results.
Why would you want 3 tests? Well trying to get pregnant can become quite obsessive and most people who want to be pregnant will test on the day their period is due or even earlier. If you test too early it is possible to get a false negative result so you may want to re-test a few days later. If you do get a positive result most people I know will check again in a few days, just to be sure! Of course you may get a negative result and your spare tests can be carried over to another month.
How does it work? The test comes in two parts; you get three foil wrapped test sticks and one holder. To do a test take one test stick and remove its cap before inserting it into the holder, arrows show you clearly which way to do this. A symbol in the digital window shows you that the test is ready to use. Hold the absorbent end of the test stick in your urine stream for 5-7 seconds and you can then replace the cap. You can do this any time of the day from the day your period is due. The test ready symbol will start to flash after 20 – 30 seconds while it measures the hCG hormones in your urine. This hormone is only produced during pregnancy so if it is detected you are pregnant. Within 3 very nervous minutes, and sometimes in as little as 1 minute, the display will either say Pregnant or Not Pregnant and there you go, you have your result.
Why is this better than the old tests? Well in the past the tests had two windows, a test window that would show a blue line if the test had worked and another window that would show a blue line if the result was positive. The more hCG hormones present in your urine, the stronger line you got but in some cases the line could be very feint and barely there. The first timeI was pregnant my husband was convinced there was not a line there whilst I was convinced there was so we were in a kind of limbo until we tested again a few days later and got a much darker line.
All Clearblue tests are 99% accurate so you can be pretty sure you have the right result. They are even more sensitive than the tests done by your doctor and most doctors will take your word for it that you are pregnant if you have had a positive result from a home pregnancy test.
The instructions are well written and very easy to follow using diagrams and there is a question and answer section on the back if anything needs clarification. There is a care line number should you need any confidential advice and you can get more information form the Clearblue website at www.clearblue.info. As mentioned before they are available from Boots but are also available from most leading chemists.
