promises to be full of action. Tim has just one problem - he's hopeless at sports of any kind. Can he survive the horrors of an activity-packed week? By the award-winning author of "The Suitcase Kid".
Two books in one: In "Cliffhanger" Tim's dreading his action-packed adventure holiday. ... more
Luckily, his new friend Biscuits isn't interested in the activities either, except for eating! In "Buried Alive!" Tim and Biscuits are off on holiday again - and this time they're in for an unexpected adventure.
Advantages: A very funny book. I think most children will enjoy it. Disadvantages: It's quite a short book.
This book is by Jacqueline Wilson and it is very funny. It’s all about a boy called Tim.
Tim, a nine year old boy, is sent (very reluctantly) to adventure camp. He is brilliant in school at just about every subject except sport. Tim is useless at sports, but his dad wants him to get involved so that’s why he makes him go.
At the adventure camp, there are four teams, all named after cats. The Tigers, Lions, ... ...a ‘best at everything’ sort of boy, Biscuits, who always eats food, Kelly, Laura, and Lesley.... girls!!!
After the first day, Biscuits is Tim’s best friend, and most of the Tigers want to be different cats. Kelly wants to be a Cheetah so she can cheat. Biscuits wants to be a Lion so he can lie, and Tim wants to be a Panther so he can make panting noises.

The Tigers, Lions, Panthers, and Cheetahs. Tim is a Tiger, along with Giles, a ‘best at everything’ sort of boy, Biscuits, who always eats food, Kelly, Laura, and Lesley.... girls!!!
After the first day, Biscuits is Tim’s best friend, and most of the Tigers want to be different cats. Kelly wants to be a Cheetah so she can cheat. Biscuits wants to be a Lion so he can lie, and Tim wants to be a Panther so he can make panting noises.
Apart from having a new friend, Tim is not happy at all. He has to play Triangles, a game a bit like Rounders, and he isn’t good at it and most of the Tiger team tease him. Tim phones his mum and dad to get them to pick him up and take him home, but his dad wont come and he has to stay at camp.
Tim sends lots of postcards to his mum and dad to let them know he isn’t enjoying camp. This is what he wrote on the first one.
“Dear Mum and Dad I am at the Adventure Centre. Well. You know that. You took me here. I have only been here half an hour. I am not enjoying it so far. Not one bit. With love from Tim xxxxxxxx to Mum x to Dad”
If you want to know what else Tim writes on the postcards, and what other stuff he has to do at adventure camp, you will have to read the book. You find out everything that happens to Tim because the book is written as if Tim is writing it.
It’s a very funny book, especially the pages with Tim’s postcards on them because he tries to make his parents feel bad about sending him to camp and making him unhappy. There is also funny pictures in the book like Biscuits face with loads of food around it, and Tim with a think bubble that says “I wish I was somewhere else!”
There are only about 90 pages in the book and the writing is quite big, so it is easy to read and I think children aged about 7 and older would be able to read it. It costs £3.99.
Advantages: It's a very funny book with a lot of sympathy mixed in too. Disadvantages: It's to short and you wonder whats going to happen at the end!
This Jacquline Wilson book is one of her funniest! It is about a 9 year old boy, called Tim, who has been sent to an adventure camp for the week. Tim hates sports so he dreading it anyway. Luckily his new friend Biscuits isn't very interested either!
The adventure camp and Tim get off to a bad start! The children are divided up into different teams, all of which are named after wild cats. These teams are The Tigers, Panthers, Cheatahs and The Lions. ... ...is in there too, as well Giles a ' i'm-the-best-at-everything' boy, Kelly a very lively and bouncy girl and Lesley and Laura, two girls who are the best of friends.
After a while Biscuits and Tim are the best of friends and they have called themselves Super - Tim and Biscuits Boy!
Although Tim has a new friend he still hates the camp. On the second day he has to go Absdeiling and gets stuck! Luckily he is OK. Tim sends loads of postcards to his ...

Advantages: Its a good story and easy to read Disadvantages: None
Jacqueline Wilson's Cliffhanger is a great novel. However, this makes for a more confusing read than the normal Jacqueline Wilson stories. I found there were so many characters involved in this read and I became confused. When I was just getting used to the fact that there was only Mum, Dad and Tim, Several other characters appeared in the storyline which added greatly to my confusion.
Apart from this critisism, All in all the book was a good read, ... ...what was actually going on.
In connection to the main character Tim, my view is that there are fairly enormous gender issues surrounding this little boy with regards as to how his mum and dad parent him. My understanding of this is that although mum is happy initially to have Tim a mummy's boy, and portrays relative conflict with dad in this issue, It becomes apparent throughout the storyline that eventually mum realises the importance of dads role ...

Advantages: Gives clear warnings Disadvantages: Sometimes you just want to scream at Ellie to eat!
JacquelineWilson is one of the best childrens authors around today. She started off just writing quite short stories ( Cliffhanger is one of her earlier books) and quickly became a well known and much loved childrens writer by both kids and their parents. She's one of the few authors that can capture the minds of both people and not let them go until the end of the book.
Her writing style is quite chatty and informal, and she often takes the view of children. I've actaully met her, 5 years ago, just before she really "hit it big" and she is a wonderful and generous person.
However, I better get to the actual book!
I didn't choose to read it, but my little sister had it and after she finished reading it I demanded a shot. I read it in just 2 days, before handing it over ot my mum for her turn!!
She narrates the life ...
Advantages: Great story to help children understand grief and depression Disadvantages: None really, although it might upset sensitive children
Cliffhanger) and a slightly older audience (the Girls In Love series), so there will be something out there that most children will enjoy. Her easy to read style is a joy, the illustrations are enchanting and she is unafraid of bringing ‘adult’ subjects into a child’s world. Recommended.
