Advantages: excellent pictures, easy to understand text Disadvantages: the index is a bit confusing
I bought this book half-way through my second year in medical school, and oh how I regretted not buying it sooner!! It has got most of the stuff that you need to know in anatomy (at least, it has most of the stuff that I need to fill in my workbook - so it does has pretty much everything in the syllabus). The text is really comprehensive, and it is not just coloured anatomy pictures and text, but it also includes important medical conditions related ... ...figures which come in real handy when you need to memorise all the different blood vessels and nerve endings (especially when exams and spot test are just around the corner).
The only thing that I don't like about this book is that the index section at the back can be a bit confusing. You have to look carefully to find out what you're looking for. So, I did sometimes spend more time reading the index in order to find the related topics. more

Oh, and it is heavy, but most anatomy textbook are heavy anyway. Also, it focuses only on the anatomical aspects of human body, so you will need another textbook to learn your physiology. All in all, although this book cost about £35-£40, but it's worth every penny!!

I used this book for both my anatomy special study modules on head and neck and upper and lower limbs at University and it proved to be very helpful. It has pretty much everything you need to know for anatomy. The description can be a little long winded but provides good detail. The book is generally well organised and easy to follow. However, the diagrams can be a little confusing at times but the good description often compensates for it. This ... ...may affect the parts of the body quite well to help students gain a more holistic understanding of the topic. I particularly like the last chapter of the book which is a summary of cranial nerves. It was really comprehensive and including descriptions of clinical conditions associated with the cranial nerves. I would recommend this to all medical students, it is a good supplement to any basic anatomy textbook as it goes into more depth and detail. ...
