I was on a business trip to Geneva earlier this year and was wandering about the airport before flying home, well wandering round the whole two shops they have, and decided to treat myself to something from the duty free. I walked past the alcohol and I already had my cigerettes and came accross the Clinique stand.
So many people have raved about Clinique products so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try one out. I spent a long time perusing the shelves and suddenly a small little pot caught my eye. It stood out as, unlike most of the clinique products, it doesn't have a green lid and looked different so I bought it.
The Pot
It comes in a 15ml pot about the size of a pot of lip balm or maybe slightly bigger. The pot has a pinkish tint to it and has a silver lid. The brand and product name are clearly displayed on the front.
My initial thoughts were that the pot looked tiny and at that price I wouldn't be able to afford regular refills, it looked like it would run out after a month maximum however the directions did state apply sparingly so maybe I'd be proved wrong.....
-The Claims-
Minimises the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Helps to minimise,
soften fine lines and wrinkles. Helps to make the fragile eye area skin stronger and better protected. Calms soothes, comforts and smoothes the eye area. Extends eye makeup wear. Safe to use around the immediate eye area. Absorbs quickly and effortlessly.
I have quite pale skin and as a result there are nearly always dark circles under my eyes which no amount of sleep seem to get rid of, well maybe if I could sleep in every morning but for some reason work aren't going for that! To be honest a lot of the claims sounded too good to be true and I'm always dubious of "the product helps to...." always sounds like a get out of jail free card to me! Still I decided to put my cynicism to one side and trundled over to the cashier.
-Using the product-
Whenever I buy something new I'm always dying to try it out so getting into bed that night I opened up my little tub. The cream was almost translucent pink in colour and the smell was a bit like an unscented hand cream. There was no additonal scent to make it smell nice it was just the smell of the cream, very discreet and unoffensive.
The directions were to apply sparingly above and below the eye. Unfortunalty sparingly isn't a very accurate measurement so I dipped my finger into the tub and began to apply. I had only used an amount less than the size of a pea but it was far too much so my hands ended up getting the same treatment...well can't hurt!
When I first applied it it felt a bit greasy which dissapointed me but my fears were quickly relieved as it absorbed into the skin very quickly leaving no trace of greasiness. It felt very cooling and soothing on my skin which was nice as my eyes were quite tired after the flight.
On subsequent applications I learnt that simply touching the tip of my finger onto the cream provided the perfect amount for both eyes....this tub was gonna last forever!!
I have been using it, not religously I have to admit, for about four months now and the tub is still two thirds full. I'd estimate that if used the recommended frequency and every day 15ml would last you about 6 months.
-So does it do exactly what it says on the..er...pot?-
Well lets examine what it claimed to do....
Minimises the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Well I'd applied it before going to sleep and eagerly looked in the mirror the next morning but there didn't seem to be any obvious difference but over the next few weeks gradually the circles began getting lighter.....until of course I went out a few nights in a row and forgot to keep applying for a while but not really the creams fault!
Helps to minimise, soften fine lines and wrinkles. I didn't have too many lines so haven't really noticed much effect so unfortunatly unable to comment on this really.
Helps to make the fragile eye area skin stronger and better protected. Not sure how to test this one....
Calms soothes, comforts and smoothes the eye area. This it definitly did from the very first application, I always find I feel much more relaxed when my eyes are soothed which if that is before you go to bed leads to better sleep which also helps the dark circles.
Extends eye makeup wear. I was very dubious about this claim however the concealer used under my eyes did actually stay on longer so was very impressed on this claim.
Safe to use around the immediate eye area. I have never had a reaction to anything lucikly but this cream has never stung my eyes and my skin has never felt irritated. I'm not sure how sensitive skin would react but as the cream is very light and unscented I wouldn't imagine there would be a problem
Absorbs quickly and effortlessly. Again absoutly true the cream absorbs into the skin almost immediately with little pressure.
The tub also lasts an amazingly long time which makes it seem almost a bargain.....well not exactly a bargain but at least value for money.
-The Price-
It costs £20 for the small tub which I initially balked at a bit but as I said it lasts a long time and if one tub lasts around six months it's only £40 a year which doesn't sound so bad for those people like me who feel the need to justify any expenses before purchasing!
-Where can I buy?-
Well hopefully I've now convinced you this product is great and you'll be dying to buy it! It's sold at Clinque counters in the likes of boots, debenhams etc, you can buy it from their website and also from duty free shops at the airport where if you are outside the EU it is generally about £2-£3 cheaper.
More factual information about the product can be found on their website www.clinique.co.uk.
I would definitly recommend this product to people of any age, male and female alike.
Thanks for reading
Maria

Sounds good. Don't think I can justify eye stuff at that price. Maybe in a few years!
