Dark circles are my biggest complexion problem - no matter what I do, whether it's more sleep, more water, eye creams, they don't seem to budge. Having tried numerous eye creams in the past, I'd not been convinced that they really did anything to help shift the circles, but when I began to suffer from tiny patches of dry skin under my eye last month, I knew it was time to invest in an eye cream pretty sharpish! Having read numerous positive reviews of Clinique's All About Eyes on Dooyoo, it seemed to be the best choice as it promised to rid me of the dark circles as well as moisturising.
All About Eyes is packaged in a small 15ml orangey pink pot with silver screw top lid. Like all Clinique packaging, it's simple but classy and looks great. It has a plastic cover underneath the lid to prevent the cream from falling into the lid if you're travelling which is one of my bug bears, so thumbs up from me there. It retails at around £20 for 15ml, which is reasonable for a premium brand eye cream, (as long as it works!) and you can buy Clinique products from Boots, Debenhems, House of Fraser and most other department stores.
Clinique claim on their website that All About Eyes will "minimise the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, helps to minimise, soften fine lines and wrinkles, helps to make the fragile eye area skin stronger and better protected, soothe, comfort and smooth the eye area, protect against environmental damage and extend eye makeup wear" so it's great for use for someone like me in their mid twenties, who is looking for a light eye cream to work as a good all round product. The skin around the eyes is very delicate, and over application of eye cream can actually end up causing more problems than if you'd just left well alone, so it's really important to me that the cream is nice and lightweight and doesn't clog the pores. Clinique have realised this concern and produce two versions of All About Eyes, the regular version, and a rich version, for skin that is more wrinkle prone and needs a bit more attention.
To apply, I use my finger to get a tiny amount of the cream and stroke it gently across the skin under my eye, moving from my nose outwards. If there is any residue left on my finger, I stroke it across my top lid for good measure. You need to take care not to drag the skin or be at all aggressive with it but the consistency of the cream makes it really easy just to stroke it across. I keep calling it a cream, but when you apply to your eye, it actually feels a lot more like a serum, as it feels so lightweight and silky. It's cooling and soothing on the skin and is absorbed really quickly and effortlessly. It creates a great base for eye makeup, working like a primer to allow concealer or foundation to cling to it and last longer. Clinique recommend using this both morning and evening, and I find that it is lightweight enough to do so.
But the real test of an eye cream is in its long term effects. I've now been using this for two months and the skin around my eye is no longer dry or flaky, is more toned and feels a lot smoother. My dark circles are not completely gone, but have been noticeably reduced to the point where my concealer is actually able to fully conceal them, which is a first for me! It certainly works far better than Clinique's Advanced Stop Signs Aging which I had used in the past as I liked the added SPF but which failed to do anything at all for my dark circles.
This is the perfect product for someone in their mid twenties who is looking to protect their skin from premature wrinkles and keep the dark circles at bay. The only missing feature for me is an SPF, which would be a great addition, making this a real preventative anti-aging cream. But on the whole, it's a great, lightweight cream, suitable for everyday use.
