I've found another great product from Clinique that has now become part of my everyday beauty routine. It's one of those products that makes you think, "what did I do without it." The product I am talking about is their Clarifying Lotion Number 2. This lotion (which is actually a liquid) is part of their exfoliators range which are said to encourage skin renewal for a smoother complexion. They have gentle formulas which they say are the perfect way to uncover your skin's natural radiance.
Firstly, just a bit of history about Clinique. Clinique is one of the world's largest suppliers of prestige makeup and fragrance products. It was launched by Estee Lauder Companies in August 1968. I have always viewed Clinique as an upmarket product and one that is known to have a very good reputation. It is more expensive than other makeup and skin care ranges but I always hear good things about it and that it actually works so sometimes it is worth paying more for something that produces results. I have ordered products from Clinique before and reviewed some of them and when you do order from their website they send you various trial sizes of their different products. I actually received a bottle of Clinique's Clarifying Lotion 2 as a sample the first time I used it. Their marketing ploy obviously worked as I wanted to try this product after seeing it in the stores but was reluctant to buy a whole bottle as it's fairly expensive and I didn't want to find out afterwards that it didn't work so lucky for me I got the trial size and was really happy with the results.
In my opinion I would call this product a toner really, used to take off make up and sweep away dead surface skin cells on your face. It claims to make skin appear smoother, softer and with more light reflecting qualities. It also says that your make up will go on better and stay on for longer with use of this product.
I used the lotion as directed. They say to apply twice a day to face and throat all over. To do this you must use a cotton ball although I tend to prefer the cotton pads as I find them easier to use but just as effective. The product is easy to use. You basically just unscrew the lid and I hold the cotton pad at the top and turn the liquid onto it so I get two small dabs of liquid on it. Then I smooth it over my face. When you apply it your skin actually tingles, the first time I used it it was quite a surprise to feel this sensation but it's actually a really nice feeling. To me I think it shows that the product is working and it also gives my face such a clean, fresh feeling. It's like I'm taking off all the dirt, make up and gunk from my face leaving it tingly clean. I loved this product from the first tiem I tried it. THe feeling whilst you are using it is great and afterwards I have to say that my skin feels really really soft and smooth. I was actually quite amazed at how well it actually does work. I have used cheaper toners before but none had results as good as this Clinique product did.
You can also see that it is working if you look at your old cotton pad. Even if I have washed my face beforehand, after I use this product there is still some make up on it that has been removed so obviously this product really gets down deep to remove all bad stuff from your face. Now I normally don't really believe companies when they claim to give your face a luminous glow or light reflecting qualities as above but in this case I totally agree, my skin looks a bit brighter and more glowing after use.
What's good about it is that it does come in different strengths to satisfy different skin types. For example Clarifying Lotion 2 is actually for dry to combination skin types, Clarifying Lotion 1 is for very dry to dry skin types, Clarifying Lotion 3 is for combination to oily skin types and Clarifying Lotion 4 is for oily to very oil skin types. They also do a mild version which is for very dry to dry skin types. I choose type 2 as I have pretty normal skin and this seemed the best for me.
Like I said, this product is fairly expensive but I can see the bottle that I bought lasting for a very long time (6 months plus) even with twice daily use. A 200ml bottle costs £14 and a 400ml bottle costs £23. Obviously, economically the 400ml bottle works out cheaper per ml but I find the bottle very large. It's ok for the bathroom shelf but if you want to take it away with you it's a bit of a hassle to fit it in your make up bag.
That said, this is a great product that really works and one I definitely recommend.

...smell at all; after all, Clinique are famed for their sensitive skin-friendly formulas and I was not prepared for something smelling quite so strong. However, I'm one of those lucky people that can take a gamble with most skin products so I went ahead and had a go. I must say it was the most refreshing, lovely product to apply, with an almost icy feeling on the skin. I expected my face to feel a bit tight afterwards, but not at all; it felt really ... ...I have dabbled with many Clinique products and found them a little bit hit and miss, but their Clarifying Lotion really is well worth the money, as you only need a little dab to do your whole face and neck. I would really recommend this to anyone who is jaded with all the different lotions and potions on the shelves of their local chemist; Clinique counters are usually quite good for giving out samples, so chances are if you're nice to the lady behind ...

...this clarifying lotion from any Clinique counter in the Cosmetics area in Department Stores (the bit that always smells lush) or in places like Boots the Chemist or online (cheapsmells.com is cheapest I have found so far)
It sells at £23.00 for 400ml (£23.00 for 487ml at the moment from the Clinique Website) or £14.00 for 200ml RRP but you can get it cheaper.
After my skin started to become oily/combination I realised good 'ol soap and water just ... ...nearest Clinique counter as I new it was a well-reputed brand. The Clinique Expert really was an expert and asked me all about the different areas on my face in my consultation and then she advised me what products would suit my skin type best - I really do recommend taking a few minutes to speak to one of the experts! In the 3-step skincare regime, she recommended this lotion as step 2 (this was 6 years ago). Having never used a toner or lotion ...

...am a big fan of Clinique makeup and thought I would try some of their skin care regime.
I purchased two items of clinique goodies and was rewarded with a "Clinique bonus time" set of freebies including the clarifying lotion.
I tried this as part of the three step skin process (including facial soap and dramatically different lotions).
So far so good - but when I put it on boy did it sting - my skin was on fire. So I rinsed if off as quickly as ... ...WANT A HORRIBLE RASH!
Clinique promise that they test their products on more than 1000 women and change the formula if it causes a problem - of a straw poll of 5 of my friends who have tried this product - 3 have had problems so I would take this with a pinch of salt! ...

...talked to someone at a Clinique counter, and switched to the no.4 lotion. I was amazed at the difference it made, my skin feels clean, and I hardly ever get spots now. I'd really recommend using Clinique, but make sure you talk to someone first, and try a few different things to see which one suits your skin. I'd recommend the no. 2 lotion, but not to people with skin like mine, as it's too gentle. If you have normal skin, it would be a good one ...

a toner made me think the exfoliation part was a load of manufacturers marketing hype. Apparently by sweeping (- yes sweeping not rubbing) a little of the lotion on a cotton wool pad you will help to sweep away dead surface skin cells there by helping to promote skin cell re growth, remove grease and you should end up with smoother, softer skin with a healthy clinique glow. It is best to get the lovely counter girls to asses your skin with their slidey thing so you get the correct product.
The packaging I really like. Because the products are quite high in price the packaging helps to promote the quality that you are paying for. It is a simple C with Clinique underneath in silver and then the product description. The clarifyinglotion comes in a tall bottle with a green lid and the bottle itself is frosted. The clarifyinglotion is a pale purple colour. The opening of the bottle is quite big and has no covering like others do (ones with the tiny hole in the middle so not too much comes out at once) so when applying to the cotton ball you have to tip it very slowly and make sure the cotton ball is covering ...
