Too harsh!

It costs £14 for a 200ml bottle but unlike the cleanser and the moisturiser, this one doesn't last that long. It comes in a pink see through bottle with a lid that just screws on, but there's no special dispenser ... ...just so harsh, even though Clinique products are all supposed to be safe for sensitive skin, I really don't think this one would be. My skin does feel nice and smooth and fresh after using it, but like I already said if I use it too often it makes my skin dry and tight. I don't think it's doing my skin much good in the long run so I don't think I'll buy it again, I'll look around for another toner to use with my cleanser and moisturiser. ... more

There are 4 different types to choose from which are just numbered from 1 - 4 , this one, number 3, is for oily skin.
It comes in a pink see through bottle with a lid that just screws on, but there's no special dispenser or applicator, it's one of those ones where you just have to tip it up onto your cotton wool and then apply it to your face, which means often you can waste a lot because you get too much out. You can buy a press-top applicator to put on it which you just put the cotton wool on top and press down to get the right amount out but I don't know where you can get these from or how much they cost, I've never seen them being sold anywhere I just know you can get them because my friend has one.
The lotion is a watery liquid like most toners and you just put it on your cotton wool then wipe the cotton wool over your face to sweep away dead surface skin cells and any last traces of make-up and prepare your skin for the moisturiser. You can feel straight away when you use it that it's getting rid of the oil, but I think it's a bit too harsh, it seems to over-strip the skin, so I only use it once a day rather than twice like you're supposed to. If I use it twice a day it makes my skin feel really tight and after a while I start getting dry patches, but using it once a day I don't have these problems. You can see all the oil and dirt it's getting off your skin on the cotton wool which just shows how much it's taking out of your skin.
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with even the slightest sensitivity to their skin because it's just so harsh, even though Clinique products are all supposed to be safe for sensitive skin, I really don't think this one would be. I have to admit that I've had this product on my shelf for a few years and shyed away from it as it was quite painful to use. It does sting, and can dehydrate your skin a littel bit. My skin would feel tight but smooth after use. I didn't use it regularly because of this. Then one evening, fed up with not being able to shift my foundation, I put some Clarifying Lotion 3 on some cotton wool and for want of a better word started to gently rub my face ... ...this for a week or so and found my skin tone and texture improved, blemishes cleared and pores refine. I feel on top of my skin care now and use it once a day (twice is too often I find), in the evening to get rid of the last traces of make up from my pores. I would recommend this ONLY to people with the OILIEST skins as it is heavy duty and would be to harsh for most. ...

Advantages: Only a small amount is needed so it lasts ages Disadvantages: Expensive - approx £23 for 400 mls but look online for cheaper prices
I have mainly oily skin which is prone to very bad spots, but I started using this product just over a year ago and I love it. It really cleanses my skin, removing excess make-up, grease and dirt which would otherwise clog my pores. I still get the occasional break out but my skin recovers much more quickly since using it. It leaves the texture of my skin much smoother and enables moisturiser to absorb in much better. I have had positive comments ... ...this product. I find that if I stop using it for a period of time, my skin appears duller. I also find that foundation looks much better after the appliction of this wonderful product! Overall, my skin is much better after using this product, it leaves it feeling really clean. ...

a toner made me think the exfoliation part was a load of manufacturers marketing hype. Apparently by sweeping (- yes sweeping not rubbing) a little of the lotion on a cotton wool pad you will help to sweep away dead surface skin cells there by helping to promote skin cell re growth, remove grease and you should end up with smoother, softer skin with a healthy clinique glow. My first bottle of the ClarifyingLotion came as a promotional size as part of a special offer on the Clinique3 steps Cleansing regime.

There was an offer in all Clinique counters that anyone could go, for free, to a Clinique counter, take a test to see what skin type you are and get a free trial size pack of the soap, clarifyinglotion and dramatically different moisterising lotion suited to their skin type. So I thought " why not?" and headed down to my nearest Clinique counter.
I found out I was a skin type 3 which meant I got a facial soap ( oily formula), clarifyinglotion3 and dramatically different moisterising lotion.
The soap lasted for ages nowever I felt it did not clean or get that deep. It also made my spots more red but did leave my skin feeling fresh and invigorated. The skin around my nouth thouhg felt a bit dry.
