Clarifying lotion for oily skin is in an opaque dusky pink bottle, with a pistachio green screw cap. It carries the distinct clinique logo in silver print.
All clarifying lotions by clinique, are toning exfoliators, which lift away dead surface skin cells to make the complexion smoother.
This is step 2, as step 1 gets rid of dirt, oil and debris from the skin, and step 2, the clarifying lotion gets rid of the more stubborn dead skin, and any junk which the cleanser couldn't get rid off.
The oily skin formula has astringent properties, and it has a much stronger formula for getting rid of the extra oil on the skins surface.
It's clear that the clarifying lotion does work, because when using a clear cotton pad, you can actually see the fine skin particles and bits of oil caught by the lotion.
However, being specifically made for oily skin, it does have a really strong drying affect, and therefore should not be used by people with even normal or combination skin types. It should be strictly for people with oily to very oily skin.
Even though the clarifying lotion does leave the skin extra clean, and the complexion looks extra smooth, it does sting the skin sometimes, especially the first time it is used.
It stings even more if your skin is suffering from dryness, so that is another reason that it is best left for people with exceptionally oily skin, because it is only comfortable to use at that level.
I think that the Clinique Clarifying Lotion for oily skin does work quite well, and does just what is said, but the formula is too strong for mildly oily skin types, and combination oily like myself. So it only caters for the needs of v.oily skin without being a source of discomfort and irritation. So, a good product, but only if you suffer from ALOT of oil.
