I came across Clinique a few years ago in Boots. The counter girls were stopping people and reviewing your face and giving you samples suitable to your skin type. They stopped me and moved a few sliders about on their skin type consulter after asking me a few questions. Bobs your Uncle and I came away with samples for Skin type 2. One of these samples was Clarifying Lotion. The nice counter lady told me that I MUST sweep my face with cotton wool NOT rub when using this. OK, what difference can that make?

Clinique say that the Clarifying Lotion is not a toner but an exfoliation lotion. This is kinda weird as it looks like a toner, seems to be liquid like a toner but hey, Clinique must know what they are talking about. About the sweeping part - you have to moisten a cotton ball with the lotion and sweep it across your face, not rub. This helps to sweep away any dead surface skin cells, therefore helping to promote skin cell regrowth, remove grease. You should then end up with softer, healthier skin with a Clinique glow.

As I said before my first experience of this was with a sample, that seemed tiny but lasted two weeks. You really do not need to put much onto the cotton ball. Clinique have lots of Bonus Time events so the next one they had at my local Boots I brought the full size bottle of the clarifying lotion and another purchase and you get about 5 free products (mostly sample size). So thats a good incentive to buy as the price is quite high.

You may be thinking what does the 2 stand for? Well Clinique make the clarifying lotion in different strenghts for different skin types.

Mild - for very sensitive skin

Lotion 1 - for sensitive skin

Lotion 2 - for normal to oily skin

Lotion 3 - for oily skin

Lotion 4 - for very oily skin.

It is best to get the lovely counter girls to asses your skin with their slidey thing so you get the correct product.

The packaging I really like. Because the products are quite high in price the packaging helps to promote the quality that you are paying for. It is a simple C with Clinique underneath in silver and then the product description. The clarifying lotion comes in a tall bottle with a green lid and the bottle itself is frosted. The clarifying lotion is a pale purple colour. The opening of the bottle is quite big and has no covering like others do (ones with the tiny hole in the middle so not too much comes out at once) so when applying to the cotton ball you have to tip it very slowly and make sure the cotton ball is covering the whole opening.

Using the clarifying lotion is very easy to do, apply a small amount to a cotton ball as above (cotton pads can also be used) and gently sweep across your face and throat. (Do not use over the eyes - it will sting!!!) You will notice a slight tingling sensation as you apply this, and also a slight tightening of the skin. Dont worry though this will disappear in a few minutes,

The only problem Ive had with this lotion is it can make my skin very dry in winter so it is advisable to moisturise after.

Does it do what it says? Well the dirt you see on the cotton ball after sweeping is amazing. You think urgh did that come off of my face? Your skin feels amazingly clean and it does feel softer and smoother after continueos use.

The price - Each of the different strenghts comes in 200mls or 400mls apart from the Mild type which only comes in 200mls.
200mls = £13.50 400mls £21.00

The price may be high but it lasts for a very long time. I have the 200mls bottle and it has lasted me half a year and I still have just under half a bottle left. This is using the lotion twice daily.

I would recommend buying the clinique products when they have the bonus times. It makes buying two products not to harsh because you get some freebies!
