Advantages: Can be a fantastic moisturiser Disadvantages: works best as part of a three step system
I was first introduced to Clinique products about four years ago. Up until leaving college I had always used Boots simple range or something similar for most of my skin care products. I have extremely sensitive skin and am allergic to any facial products which contain perfume. I was quite happy with the Simple products but was always keen to try new products.

About Clinique
Clinique products have been around since 1968. It is now one of the worlds leading manufacturers of skin products, hair care products, and make-up and fragrance products. Clinique products boast that they are all ‘100 percent Fragrance free and all allergy tested’. Clinique produce these products based on research by leading dermatologists. Their products are produced for various skin types and are marketed as part of a three step system. The three different steps are Cleanse, Exfoliate and Moisturise.
Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion
Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion is part of Clinique’s ‘Three Step-system’, the moisturising part. It was sold to me in conjunction with two other products, Clinique’s facial soap and the Clarifying lotion. I bought the Three Step system from Boots in Central Manchester, where there is a Clinique counter. I told her that I had been told to try Clinique products because I have sensitive skin. She asked me a few questions about my skin and told me what type of skin I had. There are a few different combinations of skin that you can be and mine was sensitive with an oily T-zone (your T zone is your forehead, nose and chin). When she had worked out my type of skin she suggested which combination of products I should use to get effective results. There are three different types of soaps to cleanse your skin, three different types of Clarifying lotion but only one moisturiser. The three different varieties are; Extra Mild which is for very dry, delicate skin. Mild is for dry or average skin. Oily Skin Formula is for oilier skin. I use the Extra Mild soap and Clarifying lotion and the Dramatically Different moisturising lotion. I have found that the moisturiser works better in conjunction with the other two products than it does on its own.
The lotion itself does not have a smell, as it is free from all fragrances. It is a creamy yellow colour and is of quite a thick substance. The moisturiser is designed for all skin types and should be used when the skin is feeling tight or dry. After washing my face my skin always feels a little dry so I apply the moisturiser.
Packaging
The lotion comes in three different types of packaging, all of which I have used. It comes in the standard rectangular bottle. This has a silver lid which unscrews and leaves a large opening for the liquid to come out. The bottle is clear with the Clinique logo on the front and a description of what is in the bottle. It comes in two sizes 125ml and 50ml.
This isn’t the best packaging.
It also comes in a bottle identical to the previous one but with a pump to dispense the lotion. I much prefer the pump bottle, even though it is a little more expensive. It’s about a pound more expensive to buy the bottle with the pump. However, that pound is easily saved because this bottle is much more economical. Instead of having to pour the fast flowing liquid into your hand you just squirt the required amount in small squirts. I have found that this bottle has made my moisturiser last at least a couple of months longer! It is easily spilled in the open top bottle and hard to pour back in. This bottle only comes in the larger size of 125ml.
This moisturising lotion also comes in a tube. It’s not a very large tube but is definitely hand-bag size which is always useful especially if you are going on holiday. The tube holds about 50ml and is quite small. It has a silver lid which screws on and the tube itself is made of clear plastic. It is easy to dispense and also quite economical.
Cost
These prices are from Clinique.co.uk (sorry my pound sign doesn’t work)
The hard plastic bottle without a pump: 50ml- 14 pounds 125ml- 24.50 pounds
The hard plastic bottle with pump:
125ml- 25.50 pounds
The tube was only available on Clinique.com at 11 dollars.
These prices can vary depending on where you go; sometimes you can get them as part of a deal, especially if you buy the Three Step System.
Does it work?
Clinique boast that this product ‘Comforts and smoothes the skin, replenishing moisture where needed’. I found that it replenished my skin and made it feel much smoother and softer. It had a noticeable difference within a week. Before using this I use to get dry patches in various places but this kept them at bay.
It is a really mild product; it doesn’t sting your skin like some moisturisers can-especially those with Aloe Vera as an ingredient. Its absorbency depends on how you use this product. If you use it in conjunction with the clarifying lotion it is much more easily absorbed than without it. Without the clarifying lotion it does tend to sit on the skin for a little while before being soaked up, which can make it a little oily. However, if used after the clarifying lotion it is immediately absorbed into the skin.
Although it is relatively thick it is still light-weight and it’s greasy at all. It does leave a mark on your clothes if you spill it on yourself but is easy to get out in the wash.
Clinique claim that this moisturising lotion ‘replaces lost moisture by duplicating the water and oil balance naturally occurring in the skin’. It definitely makes my skin feel more balanced, instead of having dry patches in various places. It hasn’t given me spots, which some moisturisers can and has left my skin feeling incredibly soft.
I would say that this is a great moisturiser but I’m not entirely convinced that it is dramatically different to some cheaper rivals. It is a great moisturiser which works extremely well but it works even better in conjunction with the other two products in the three step system.
That for me is this products biggest downfall. It doesn’t work as well independently; it makes your skin feel slightly greasy until it has been soaked up. This means to get the best effects you would have to buy the whole three step system which can be rather expensive. The cheapest 3 step system is more than 30 pounds. (for all the smallest quantities)
If you are looking for a fantastic cleanse, exfoliate and moisturising system Clinique’s Three Step System is one of the best around. However, if you are just looking for a moisturiser then this one isn’t that ‘Dramatically Different’.
As to whether I would recommend this product….only as part of the Three Step range as there are much cheaper alternatives that do the job just as effectively.

...I have always noticed the Clinique counter in my local Boots store, but what usually stands behind the counter, makes me feel intimidated. Yes I think you all know who I mean, the over-the-top made up ladies in their long white coats, looking at you as if to say “why you coming this way, the collection 2000 products are at the other end of the shop” lol. (Before you say anything, yes I know that just because a product is expensive, it doesn’t mean it will work any better than a cheaper version, but it’s always nice to think that if you spend that little bit extra, you are going to get a much more decent result). ...correctly. As with all the Clinique range, the quality is such that you never need very much of anything. The beauty of this face cream is that it is so similar to the skin's natural oils that it cannot irritate even the most sensitive of skins and evens out any skin type from dry to oily to different all over. I enjoy the product; CliniqueDramaticallyDifferent Moisturizing Lotion. I have been using this product consistently for the past year. I feel that it is a great moisturizer and works particularly well in collaboration with with other Clinique daily products. It smoothes my skin and prevents dry skin, I particularly use it on my face. The smell is average, it does not particularly smell perfumed but for a face lotion it is a desired smell. It is quickly absorbed by the skin and does not make skin too oily or greasy. It is a well known and trusted brand and I would suggest it as a worthwhile product to invest in. One concern I have about it is it's spout and packaging - I find that it does not affectively pump as well as other lotion bottles do. Also the square bottle does not pack easily into a makeup bag or when traveling. These are ...
I have been using this for years (my daughter who is 21 now does so too) It is extremely light but it seems to penetrate the skin without feeling "heavy" . Your make up stays on top very well. I can't say a bad word against it. I exercise regularly and again it feels great to put onto the face after a hot shower. It is maybe a bit more expensive than a regular moisturiser but a little seems ot go a long way. Clinique often have promotions on if you buy two of their products then you can get a "sample set" of certain items. The DramaticallyDifferentMoisturiser is often included in the sample items. I find this useful for travelling and I have on occasion used the sample to top up my large container. ...
I have never used anything that has lived up to my expectations the way that Clinique does. I was given the Clinique bug in my late teens, at first I thought why spend so much money on a particular brand when there are cheaper ones out there that must be just as good. I became loyal to the Clinique brand when I got married, (best thing about getting married, discovering Clinique properly, my relationship with Clinique lasted longer too) I purchased all their products for my wedding day however the first product that I ever purchased was DramaticallyDifferentMoisturiser and I wouldn't ever go back on that decision.
