Advantages I simply adore it, softens and smooths to perfection

Disadvantages The price possibly

I have been using Clinique products since I was in sixth form (or at least I can remember lusting after them then). Then, once I got my first job I bought myself some Clarifying Lotion and remember thinking I was all grown up (but very skint). Anyone who has bought from the Clinique range will know that they do not come cheap. They are, in my opinion, quality cosmetics, however, I feel they are a little overpriced.

I can remember using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion years ago and for some reason I stopped buying it and switched to Oil of Olay (or Ulay as it was then called), primarily I think, to save money. I had forgotten all about Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion until I bought a monthly glossy magazine a few months ago and there was a tiny little free sample stuck to the cover. I tried it that same night and I suddenly wondered why on earth I had stopped buying it. Once the tiny pot was all used up, it spurred me on to pop out to Boots and price their standard sized bottles.

The assistant at the Clinique counter told me I’d have to fork out £26 for a 125ml bottle, and she tried to make it sound better by telling me, “it does have a pump, you know”. She then tried her sales technique by telling me that I would need to also buy the Clarifying Lotion and the Soap. She also told me that the moisturising lotion was a “drink for the skin”, rather than simply a moisturiser, and that I would have to pay for a separate moisturiser to gain the full benefit of the Clinique skincare regime. I’d just been paid so I went ahead and bought the bottle but decided against the rest of the stuff she had recommended.

I love the packaging of Clinique products – they are so feminine and girly. This heavy glass bottle with white plastic pump dispenser came housed in a lovely little flowery cardboard box with the Clinique logo on the front. I tried it that same night after my shower. I was a bit disappointed in the pump dispenser when I first started to use it. I found it was very stiff to use and it would not depress. Eventually it went down with a bit of a thud and then the cream missed my outstretched hand and went shooting across the bedroom onto my beige curtains. It’s left a greasy stain, which I have still to try to wash out.

The moisturiser is not too thick, nor is it too runny. It is a pale lemon in colour and feels soft and smooth and a nice consistency. I can detect no smell at all and it sinks wonderfully into my skin.

I was told this cream is designed for dry to combination skins. My skin is about ‘normal’ I would say, but it just sinks straight in and does not leave any greasy residue afterwards. It is really a delight to use. I use it morning and night, after cleansing and toning my face and I use it as a base under my make up or just on my bare face at weekends, especially if it is cold and windy outside and I need to feel ‘protected’ from the elements. I always feels this cream is giving me a barrier against the wind and my face never feels chapped or weather-beaten if I use it before I go outside.

I also like to use this on my lips as again I feel it gives me an element of protection against the wind and it just sinks straight in, making my chapped lips feel so much more hydrated and smooth.

I really cannot fault Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion. Yes, I agree it is expensive, but in its defence, it is very long lasting and gives me the confidence that I am doing my skin some good as it is, I believe, quality product and a good investment.
