Having a beard of steel, I get through shaving products like they were tissue. I've tried them all, and usually come first to reviews in places like dooyoo to guide me. In the end, I find that most reviews of these products are written by men who have slight or thin beards. To these guys, shaving with the grain, using any variety of products, would provide a clean crisp shave. To men like me, there is nothing but sore faces and mini stubble to contend with.

So here's my take on Cliniques Pre-Electric Shave, coming from the perspective of a Steel Bearded Gent.

I cut myself whenever I wet shave, and a wet shave is also very painful for me. Besides, I have to shave twice a day to get that 'clean shaved' look in the morning. So I decided to move to Electric Shavers - after reading about how they can sometimes be a saviour to persons in my predicament. I've tried a whole range of them - Panasonic, Braun, Phillishave. I'm currently on the top of the range Phillishave, the one in the latest Bond Flick - if it worked for him it should work for me - actually no, I just got it since it had the sensotec feature.

I moved to that shaver via the Coolskin, which was amazing since it basically smoothed and then moisturised my face. As soon as I switched I noticed that electric shaving can leave your skin dry and patchy.

So off I went to the clinique boutique in Paddington Station and got myself this gem. The Pre-Electric shave is meant to 'dry your face' bringing the bristles sharp up to allow the blades to chop em off.

In short - heres the low down on this masterful product:

1) Its expensive, but you get what you pay for.
2) Its blue, fragrance free, and the bottle does NOT have any application teats - so you have to be gentle in pouring it out onto your hand.
3) You pour a little onto your hand and then smooth it onto your face and neck, in the manner of an aftershave.
4) Wash your hands, and take a breather for 20 seconds or so. There may appear to be a scent BUT its just the alcohol drying your face.
5) Shave away with the electric shaver.

The closeness of the shave isn't altered a great deal by usage of these products, in my humble opinion. However, you will notice the following:

1) The shave is a smoother experience.
2) Your skin is left moisturised (to a degree, i.e. not dry)
3) You HAVE to wash the shaver afterwards.

I've tried the Boots Essentials Pre-Electric too. Its not as good as this, but much much cheaper.

In short, if you get an excellent shave using an electric shaver, hen this should be on your grooming list. If you have a beard of steel, and dry skin issues, the Cool Skin is your best bet for an all in one.
