Good lord, am I still to be found loitering under that tree?? I remember the book...the lost honour of katherina blum by Heinrich Boll: jolly good, but please believe me that it hasn't taken me the last trillion years to read it! Hello all Kx

Clinique Happy has been on the market for many years now and up until the very recent launch of the new Happy Heartfragrance, Happy was one of a measly two fragrances for women available over the green and white, clinical-looking Clinique counters that you can find in just about any department store you care to enter.
I used to travel frequently to New York and got to know the perfume counters at Gatwick, Heathrow and JFK like the proverbial (and perfume-soaked) back of my hand. But for daytime wear I could never find anything to beat Clinique Happy.
* The Bottle
Happy comes in both a 50 ml and 100ml spray bottle which is curiously
simple in design – it is a tall glass bottle with a silver cap and the orange “Happy” logo near the top. Just like that picture at the top of this opinion in fact.
* The Smell
This is most certainly a daytime perfume and, on me at least, smells lightly floral/citrusy, but without being too “girly” like the awful Anais Anais. Apparently the citrus smell comes from Ruby Red Grapefruit, which does give it some potency. The high note, and that which also stays the longest is distinctly floral and I am informed by the website is made up of the never-before-used-in-a-scent Hawaiian Wedding Flowers and Bush Flower.
Humm, well this doesn’t mean a great deal, I don’t think I’d know what they smell like if one jumped up and bit me, but I can say that it is more exotic than the more traditional flowery smells around and is vaguely reminiscent of all those beautiful bouquets of wild flowers that seem to be all the rage just now.
The official claims for the smell is basically that it is “chic”, “modern”, “multi-layered” and “floral”. This seems to fit pretty well with my opinion, although I suspect that “chic” is pushing their luck somewhat – personally I would transpose the word “light” and feel much happier.
* That Name
I’d be lying if I said that I was drawn to this scent by the name…it’s a tad on the unsophisticated side isn’t it?!? Having said that I can see that it does suit this light fragrance as it really does give you a lift rather than weighing you down as musk-based products can do.
* The Linger
I find that I really can’t smell ANY perfume I have sprayed on myself after a couple of hours, and quite often that is because it has simply disappeared. I can’t honestly smell this one either after an hour or two have passed but I do know from continually sticking bits of me in front of my unsuspecting husbands nose at stray moments of the day and night that it does last reasonably well – I’d guess for 5 or 6 hours.
* One other nice thing...
...is that you would really be hard-pressed to over-do this fragrance. It is never over-powering even if you do accidentally get a bit carried away (or have a bunged up nose that for some reason makes you incapable of telling what your spray-finger is doing…).
* Which is a good job really...
...because the spray action on this particular bottle seems to be designed to shower you in the stuff. Am I being cynical to suspect Clinique of wanting you to rush back to the counter for another bottle just that wee bit earlier than is strictly necessary? Maybe, but either way this bottle is not at the most expensive end of the market and seems to last reasonably well, liberal spray action or not.
* The Cheats
There are of course two really great cheats, both of which I employ to ensure that the perfume lasts and lasts. One is called Clinique Happy Body Smoother and the other is called Happy Body Wash. These are both great products with the distinctive Happy smell which really help to ensure that the perfume just stays on your skin for hours, and also give you that completely smug feeling that you are entirely fragrance-co-ordinated and the bathroom looks good too!
* The Price
For the 50 ml bottle expect to pay no more than £29.50 (Euro 48.50) and £42.50 (Euro 69.00) for the 100 ml bottle. Of course you would have to be either exceedingly lazy, naïve or rich to pay these prices as there is always a bargain to be had on the internet and I generally could get something like 40% off the price by my duty-free shopping.
* The Website
For all Clinique products, including this one, take a look at www.clinique.co.uk
* The Recommendation
I have to heartily recommend Happy because I have worn it as a daytime perfume for a good couple of years now and never found anything better. It gets 5/5 stars from me – not because it is the best perfume in the world but because it is simply the best light, daytime scent around without breaking the bank.
Watch this space for assessment of its new friend Happy Heart, which could in theory topple its place at the top of my list…but with that name even my incredulity is unlikely to be stretched so far!
good, review, I am thinking of buying it, as I hoped it would have a magic chemical ingredient that would make me happy. Dee

Excellent op and reminded me that I have squirted this from a tester bottle and liked it very much.I dont really wear perfume but may try this for day wear.I believe you can buy it much cheaper in France.
Clinique introduced Happy in 1997. It is the result of the following top fragrance Notes: more
bergamot, boysenberry and honeysuckle. The middle notes are: bushflower, grapefruit and moss and the base of the fragrance is: freesia, lemon and Hawaiian wedding flower. Happy is recommended for romantic use.
Advantages: Light, fresh fragrance suitable for everyday use, reasonably long-lasting Disadvantages: I find I need to use a few squirts therefore using it up quickly
