I was always pretty sceptical about the 'premium brands' of beauty products. I just couldn't believe that a moisturiser could vary from say £5 to £50 depending on what brand you bought - how could there be that much difference?
But then I tried a friend's moisturiser whilst on a ski trip. My face was really weather beaten, and she had some of Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. Wow, was it fantastic! It really soothed my skin, and from then on I was hooked on Clinique as a brand.
When I got back I went in to Debenhams for a chat with the sales assistant, and worked out that for my 30-something combination skin (pretty oily forehead, nose and chin, with a tendency for blackheads) the main product I needed was Total Turnaround Visible Skin Renewer For Oilier Skins.
This is a great product that I now really can't live without - I even took it with me when I went travelling! It keeps my skin looking clearer and brighter, with a soft, velvety texture. It is oil free and has a matte effect, reducing the shiny oiliness that I'm prone to, although it doesn't stop the oiliness breaking through after a couple of hours - sadly I've not yet found anything that manages that. It reduces the blotchy look I get in cold weather, and although you can't use it round your eyes it does reduce other fine lines. Although not specifically a moisturiser it does protect against dryness, but I sometimes do need to use an extra moisturiser on really dry areas. I use it every morning after washing my face, and it has an instant but long lasting effect. I can still feel the lovely soft texture on my skin by the evening.
According to the label it is non-acnegenic, allergy tested and 100% fragrance free.
It isn't cheap, but you only need a small pea sized amount each time, so a bottle does last a long time (for me, 50ml lasts around three or four months). The dispenser is a handy pump action that ensures you don't use too much each time.
It comes in 2 sizes, and the larger size is definitely much better value:
30ml - £21.00 50ml - £29.50
Clinique products are available in department stores such as Debenhams and John Lewis, as well as chemists such as Boots. For better prices, look in duty free or abroad - the best deals I have found were in America where prices are roughly 2/3 of the UK price.
Advantages: Made my skin look and feel a lot brighter Disadvantages: Bit on the expensive side for such a small bottle
...I really like the Clinique brand. I know they are on the expensive but I am a real sucker for their products. I bought this as part of a promotional offer at Boots and I have to say I am really impressed with it! This Clinique Turnaround Concentrate was really nice on my skin.
The cream is meant to brighten up your skin and give you a more even appearance by using exfoliants which continually resurface the skin.
I always feel that in the winter months my skin always looks a little dreary and not quite as fresh as it normally does. I started using this about October time and I really think it has improved my skin over the festive months! The central heating normally plays havoc with my skin when we have it on, but I really think this cream made a difference and brightened it up.
The directions of use are to apply it twice daily...

Advantages: leaves lovely feel to skin! Disadvantages: A little expensive but worth it
...The packaging for this product is in a pump dispenser and looks great.
When you pump out a little it feels quite light and not that rich at all. When you spread it onto your skin it is absorbed pretty much instantly and leaves a matte type finish which i really like. From reading the clinique website it is meant to act as a skinrenewer, exfoliant type product even though there is no rough or "scrubby" type feel to it.
This is a product i will be buying agin due to the way it is absorbed so quickly, is non greasey and leaves such a nice matte finish on your skin. It also has no smell to it and after you have applied it you put on your normal moisturier.
Im not 100% sure how much it does for my skin as i have not been using it that long but i do feel that the appearence of my skin is a bit brighter than what it was.
As for the cost...

Advantages: Soft, light and gives great smooth looking skin. Disadvantages: The dispensing bottle, it's quite difficult to get the last drops out the bottle
...I have been using this product for approximately 3 years and I love it. At £25 to £30 (depending on retailer) it is quite pricey however I feel it is very much worth it.
It is in a pump action dispenser and feels extremely soft and silky when rubbing it in. You only need a very small amount for one application therefore, although pricey, one tube will last a long time. I use this with a couple of other creams and have been sucked into decriptions in the past about the greatness of certain products however I must say that combined with the rest of my skin care routine (also clinique) I have been very pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
I can't say that I have absolutely no lines or wrinkles etc however, I feel that I have considerably less than if I didn't use this item although, this is hard to justiy as I will never know...
