I will firstly tell you about my skin. It is very dry and easily irritated. I can go for weeks with a great complexion only to wake up one morning with red dry flaky bits on my face. How this happens overnight I do not know. Maybe its my dreams or what I ate for tea – who knows!!
I cannot use many perfumed products so I tend to waste a lot of cash trying new stuff only to find they’re no good for my skin. My friends love this as they get all the “used once” goods!!
Unfortunately my complexion isn’t like J-Lo (how is so wish it was!!!) and I need to wear a foundation before I set foot out the door each morning.
For many years I was using a clinique 3 in 1 foundation but I realised this was very drying and didn’t leave me looking much better. I also had to bear in mind that I am aging a little – I am 30 now and like all the posh magazines say, you need to adapt your look with your age.
So when my compact ran out I decided that was the last one and I would be brave and try something new. I was not very keen on liquid foundations but visited my clinique counter with an open mind.
I spoke with the consultant and told her I had been using the clinique city base compact but felt it was very drying for my skin type which of course she agreed!! She recommended that I try a liquid foundation and produced this bottle of stuff that she thought would match my skin tone. Before I could blink she started applying some to my jawline with a cotton bud and produced a hand held mirror in front of me asking me what I thought. I was a bit taken a back by the speed of this consultation but hey I was on my lunch hour and didn’t want to be there all afternoon!!.
I looked in the mirror and must admit my first thought was “great - why do I come to a make up counter the day I look a state!!! All those dizzy dollies behind the counter were done up like super models making me feel so inferior.
After examining my jawline and feeling how soft and smooth the make up was when applied I must admit that I was impressed. The consultant was actually very very nice and did not make me feel inferior at all. As I needed to purchase a foundation that day I decided what the hell I’ll have it.
I parted with my £17.50 in exchange for a bottle of foundation in 02 – soft cream shade and was soon on my way back to work with my foundation in tow!!
Once back at work out it comes. I wanted to see exactly what I’d bought.
THE PACKAGING
As with most clinique products this comes in their little cardboard box. Inside the box is the foundation itself all 30ml. It’s a glass slightly opaque bottle with a silver screw top. On the front there is the big C logo that clinique use with CLINIQUE (in capitals) written under it and under that in lower case it says “soft finish makeup”. On the reverse of the bottle it advised that the product is Allergy Tested and 100% fragrance free. Ideal for me delicate little face!! It then advises that the product is “moisture-giving, line softening make up for dry skin. Perfect description for what I was after.
THE SMELL
The smell I hear you ask?? Its fragrance free??? but as you will all know fragrance free stuff actually does have a slight smell. I cannot really describe the smell apart from a make-up smell. (I’m prob not making much sense am I!!) It is fresh smelling though.
APPLICATION
How to apply this. You could use a damp make up sponge as recommended by all the glossies but I prefer to use my fingertips. I pour a little on my hand and rub with my other hand and apply with my finger tips. This gives a more even application I think and a more even coverage. Talking of coverage this product gives a good coverage and does not look trowelled on!! All you need if a light dusting of translucent powder and your cooking with gas!! Once more thing - this is a long lasting foundation and lasts me all day.
I have been using this for just over a year now and I am soon to purchase my 4th bottle. I reckon it is good value for me as it does what I want it to do and is the same price as the product I was buying previously.
One downside is that when you get near the end you have to use cotton buds to get the last few drops out.
Advantages: Excellent for dry skin, lasts a long time & good value Disadvantages: Not the biggest range in colours
...fate!) Which happened to be Clinique soft finish make up. It was originally meant to be a lend but I am afraid mum this baby is all mine !!!
Packaging
My little bottle of joy comes in a small box which is a very peachy orange with white flowers & green leafs on very pretty although mine is a tad shabby now I am afraid. The front has a large silver C on with clinique written across the front & the description SOFT FINISH MAKEUP. The left hand wall ... ...a moisturiser I use the clinique dramatically different moisturiser but I am sure you can just use a cheap one depending on how bag your skin is. I only use that moisturiser because I find clinique good for dry skin.
How long does it last?
I gentle application does last all day but you may wish to reapply a little maybe on your lunch break just to freshen the look up, but I can confidently say this does a good cover up job for at least 5 hours. ...

Advantages: Long lasting coverage, Moisture giving, everything you'd want in a foundation! Disadvantages: Price, but the price is honestly worth it.
I am a regular customer of Clinique, and I am, majority of the time, very satsfied with the results. My skin is dry on my cheeks and jawline, but i am prone to spots on my forehead, around my nose and on my chin. I'm a teenager so this is not uncommon. MY EXPERIENCE
When i first bought foundation from clinique, (gentle light make up) i found it was not enough coverage, and quite shiny on my face. Allthough it had been the best foundation i'd used ... ...different one as this had been discontinued. I used 'clinique superfit make-up', which was far too matte and dry for my skin. It was very patchy, and the woman who supplied me with it (looking orange herself) gave me a shade that was far too dark on my skin. My friend who told me i should get foundation in the first place from clinique, recommended 'soft finish foundation'. I thought i would try this, as her skin always looks amazing. I didn't ask ...
