Yeah here goes……another clinique op….before you run off just here me out!!
I will firstly tell you about my skin. It is very dry and easily irritated. I can go for weeks with a great complexion only to wake up one morning with red dry flaky bits on my face. How this happens overnight I do not know. Maybe its my dreams or what I ate for tea – who knows!!
I cannot use many perfumed products so I tend to waste a lot of cash trying new stuff only to find they’re no good for my skin. My friends love this as they get all the “used once” goods!!
Unfortunately my complexion isn’t like J-Lo (how is so wish it was!!!) and I need to wear a foundation before I set foot out the door each morning.
For many years I was using a clinique 3 in 1 foundation but I realised this was very drying and didn’t leave me looking much better. I also had to bear in mind that I am aging
a little – I am 30 now and like all the posh magazines say, you need to adapt your look with your age.
So when my compact ran out I decided that was the last one and I would be brave and try something new. I was not very keen on liquid foundations but visited my clinique counter with an open mind.
I spoke with the consultant and told her I had been using the clinique city base compact but felt it was very drying for my skin type which of course she agreed!! She recommended that I try a liquid foundation and produced this bottle of stuff that she thought would match my skin tone. Before I could blink she started applying some to my jawline with a cotton bud and produced a hand held mirror in front of me asking me what I thought. I was a bit taken a back by the speed of this consultation but hey I was on my lunch hour and didn’t want to be there all afternoon!!.
I looked in the mirror and must admit my first thought was “great - why do I come to a make up counter the day I look a state!!! All those dizzy dollies behind the counter were done up like super models making me feel so inferior.
After examining my jawline and feeling how soft and smooth the make up was when applied I must admit that I was impressed. The consultant was actually very very nice and did not make me feel inferior at all. As I needed to purchase a foundation that day I decided what the hell I’ll have it.
I parted with my £17.50 in exchange for a bottle of foundation in 02 – soft cream shade and was soon on my way back to work with my foundation in tow!!
Once back at work out it comes. I wanted to see exactly what I’d bought.
THE PACKAGING
As with most clinique products this comes in their little cardboard box. Inside the box is the foundation itself all 30ml. It’s a glass slightly opaque bottle with a silver screw top. On the front there is the big C logo that clinique use with CLINIQUE (in capitals) written under it and under that in lower case it says “soft finish makeup”. On the reverse of the bottle it advised that the product is Allergy Tested and 100% fragrance free. Ideal for me delicate little face!! It then advises that the product is “moisture-giving, line softening make up for dry skin. Perfect description for what I was after.
THE SMELL
The smell I hear you ask?? Its fragrance free??? but as you will all know fragrance free stuff actually does have a slight smell. I cannot really describe the smell apart from a make-up smell. (I’m prob not making much sense am I!!) It is fresh smelling though.
APPLICATION
How to apply this. You could use a damp make up sponge as recommended by all the glossies but I prefer to use my fingertips. I pour a little on my hand and rub with my other hand and apply with my finger tips. This gives a more even application I think and a more even coverage. Talking of coverage this product gives a good coverage and does not look trowelled on!! All you need if a light dusting of translucent powder and your cooking with gas!! Once more thing - this is a long lasting foundation and lasts me all day.
I have been using this for just over a year now and I am soon to purchase my 4th bottle. I reckon it is good value for me as it does what I want it to do and is the same price as the product I was buying previously.
One downside is that when you get near the end you have to use cotton buds to get the last few drops out.
Oh this does sound nice. I used to use something similar from the Body Shop years ago. I can't remember what it was called but they discontinued it. When I'm back at work and feeling richer I may have to look at getting some of this!
