When I was younger I used to cake myself in make up being young & having skin prone to spots I used to love the cheap thick stuff that probably made your face look worse, but when I got to about 15 I realised it looked terrible & stopped wearing make up altogether. After about a year I got sick of having UN perfect skin & went on to the pill called dianette, which is supposed to clear up those, dreaded teenage zits. This is it did but after 5 years of being on a strong pill I decided to come off it as it was giving me very mad mood swings so here I am back to basics & regularly have break outs especially around the time of my period, but by the time they have cleared up it is time for another period so I got to thinking nothing was ever going to wear & I should result to wearing a bag over my head L!! After a couple of days of moaning my boyfriend couldn't cope anymore so I decided to get the old foundation out & get some serious slap on! My ideas of looking spot free again where soon dashed when I piled on the foundation & realised I now also suffered from very bad dry skin (nothing I had experienced before!) so I was gutted. My mum then gave me a foundation she brought a couple of weeks previous (god knows why she doesn't use the stuff. Must have been fate!) Which happened to be
Clinique soft finish make up. It was originally meant to be a lend but I am afraid mum this baby is all mine !!!
Packaging My little bottle of joy comes in a small box which is a very peachy orange with white flowers & green leafs on very pretty although mine is a tad shabby now I am afraid. The front has a large silver C on with clinique written across the front & the description SOFT FINISH MAKEUP. The left hand wall has a list of all the ingredients on, the right hand side has several comments in different languages & the back lets you know that the foundation is 100% fragrance free & what it is meant to do to your skin which is "Moderate cover, natural finish" & I cannot disagree with that. The lid just lets you know the colour you have brought, the skin it s meant for & the number of the colour. I personally have 02 soft cream dry delicate (which is all me) The bottle inside is glass & quite heavy (really hurts when your drop it on your foot in a hurry) It has the very look as on the front of the box & on the back it tells you again about the fragrance free thing & it also states that it is allergy tested. It also tells you the size of bottle you have, in my case it is 30ml. The lid is silver & makes the bottle look very sophisticated.
The colours. I prefer to have a darker shade of foundation to my skin so I don't look too pasty, I used to think this foundation made me look a bit orangey but now I am back from my holiday & lost my tan it makes me look so white my mum keeps asking if I am coming down with some thing how embarrassing, but I have now started to pile the blusher on so it doesn't look as bad. So you will probably find that you need to get a shade darker than normal live a little! A full colour guide can be found on their website www.clinique.com but it is so much better to actually go into the shop & test it out for yourself. If you have very fair skin they advise you buy "soft bisque" it looks quite pinky so you probably have to be very pale to get away with this one. The moderate to fair skin type have a choice of four Soft beige, soft cream, soft porcelain & soft vanilla. In my opinion they are all very similar in colour the soft cream & porcelain probably look the creamiest the soft vanilla is quite dark. I would go for one of the medium colour if I had a tan which are soft beige which would go with quite a dark colour, soft honey which is probably for a very dark tan & soft warmth which is quite similar. This foundation isn't really suitable for very dark skin & I wouldn't recommend for people with anything other than white skin just for the reason that they do not offer enough colour ways. If anyone knows any different please advise me because my friend loves this foundation but she is a hint to dark for their colours
The application I always apply foundation on the back of my hand I tip a very small amount near to my thumb because you don't need a lot as although it is quite thick it can some times be a little runny. I can usually make a little drop cover my whole face I start on my forehead & spread down. The texture of the foundation is quite thick & when you are spreading it on you have to make sure you spread it evenly as not to make small orange build ups that just ruin the whole look! Once on this foundation can feel a little heavy on first application especially if you put too much on but that feeling soon goes away. Once this has been applied you will find if you have any dry skin it will not show up at all & will not irritate any dry patches, well it doesn't to me anyway & I would say my case of dry patches could be quite bad. The foundation doesn't really smell of anything duh its 100% fragrance free lol no but sometimes I think it smells a little like fresh orange, I know it sounds mad but that's what I can smell. You can use a light powder over the foundation but I don't & think your skin probably would get a bit clogged up with both. I must say this foundation really covers up all the light blemishes & looks as though they have disappeared but if you have a more stubborn spot you can probably tell a little but I usually a little bit off a concealer stick it does wonders.
Tip If you have really bad dry skin I usually wash my face with cool water (not warm) so it brings the dry bits out then I use a moisturiser I use the clinique dramatically different moisturiser but I am sure you can just use a cheap one depending on how bag your skin is. I only use that moisturiser because I find clinique good for dry skin.
How long does it last? I gentle application does last all day but you may wish to reapply a little maybe on your lunch break just to freshen the look up, but I can confidently say this does a good cover up job for at least 5 hours. You can layer but I wouldn't say there was any need. This foundation isn't really meant to be waterproof & I wouldn't recommend it to wear on holiday, as it does tend to bring out the sweat when you are feeling warm.
How easy is it to get off ? This stuff is that good you have to get it off before you go to bed. I use those facial wipes to remove it & they work wonders they are quick & easy & once you have a look at the wipe after you can tell you have got it all off. Another way of proving that this stuff really does last the day.
The size & price The going rate for a 30ml bottle of this little miracle worker is £17.50 & can brought from all major department stores & good make up counters. I would go to somewhere like Boots Debenhams Rackhams For a good service as there are usually beauty girls there who can advise you on which clinique products are right for you. So to finish up I would defiantly recommend Clinique Soft finishmakeup some people nay think it is a little pricey but you only need a little & it defiantly does a long way. This is a foundation you can rely on.
