Hasn`t the weather been great lately? Sun, sun and more sun, what possibly could be bad? It is important to remember to apply sun screen regularly, especially in this glorious weather. I have been using Clinique`s Sun-Care stick designed for lip and eye area.
Everyone is at risk of skin cancer which has been high profile lately so we are advised to cover up, not expose ourselves to too much mid day sun and use adequate sun protection. Another reason to avoid to much sun is that it can cause premature ageing. We can`t avoid getting old (unfortunately) despite various creams that promise the world. Instrinsic ageing is natural ageing, the type that is inevitable. Extrinsic ageing is caused by external causes and it exacerbates our natural ageing process. Apparently 80% of all premature ageing is caused by exposure to the sun. Photoageing occurs over a period of years. It can cause crows feet, wrinkles, loss of firmness, age spots, uneven colour texture, redness, broken capilaries and a rough leathery look. I know I have watched 10 years younger many times when there have been women on there with damage to the skin caused by years of sun worshipping.
How to Protect your Skin. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Apparently it is important to protect your skin against the sun all year round, not just in summer. A sun protection must be used to protect against UVA`s and UVB`s. A high protection must be used. It is advisable to apply it 20 minutes before going outside and becoming exposed to the sun. There are many sun creams and lotions on offer, this choice can become overwhelming. I always chose a highish protection and would advise everyone else to do the same. Obvioulsy those with fair skin will burn more easily so may require a higher SPF (sun protection factor).

Applying. * * * * * * *
I find the stick really easy to apply. Wind it up put in on your face. It is really easy, not too hard (doesn`t require much pressure) and goes on really easily. I find it does not sink in immediately but it doesn`t really look obvious. It tends to stay on the surface to an extent, but doesn`t really appear shiney. I always expect things to stick to it, but in fact, it isn`t a problem.
How do I find it? * * * * * * * * * * * *
I try to make an effort to use sun screen regularly, I aim to use it all year round, but I do tend to lapse. I am always reluctant to apply sun screen (cream) over normal moisturiser. I do not wish to use it instead of moisturiser as I have been recommmended before. I always thing that putting it over the moisturiser makes it too heavy and too much hassle to put on. The Clinique Sun Care Stick is great. I cleanse, tone and moisturise as normal and then apply the stick. After winding it up, it is easy to sweep in accross the face and eyes. i use it on my eyelids and around my eyes, paying special attention to the wrinkle prone areas. It is so easy to use.
Benefits. * * * * * * *
The main benefits of the stick is that I am using it regularly, whereas I may not have bothered using the cream or lotion. I find it so much easier to use so I am using it daily, rather than sporadically. The stick offers factor 30 protection which is good. Admittedly I have quite fair skin and I do use factor 50 at times or total sunblock. I think this is good for daily use though. Like all sun screen it needs to be applied frequently. The other day I applied it and went on a charity picnic ride. We were in that saddle for 5 hours and it was a great day. On return, people commented that I had caught the sun. I was a bit annoyed as I had remembered to apply it. In this situation though, I may have been better using sun block, being out in the sun all day. Either that or I should have reapplied it.
Do I recommend? * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Yes I do, the Clinique Sun Care stick is so easy to use, offering good protection. Obviously is can`t be used on the arms or body but it is great for the face, it has lasted me ages. Some people may require a higher SPF than 30, but it is good enough for a lot of people and is certainly better than using none at all. I use lotion on my arms but I will most certainly buy this again for my face once it is finished.
