Despite my fairly huge make-up collection, I’ve never been a big fan of lipstick. However, I do have a bit of a problem when it comes to lip gloss- it always looks so sheer, pretty and girly, I’m rarely seen out of bed without a good coating of gloss. But the problem with gloss is that if you wear it all the time, it can dry out your lips giving you a rather unattractive flaky look. Clinique’s Superbalm tinted lip treatment is the perfect solution for whenever my lips start to dry out- it’s a lip balm combined with gloss, meaning that you can condition your lips while looking fantastic!
The balm comes in three shades: mango tint (which is the one I bought), a peachy colour; raspberry tint, a bright pink; and grape tint, a rather scary looking purple!
*Packaging*
Now, I’ve always been a bit put off by Clinique simply because of the packaging. The green colour, combined with the name, has a rather cold, clinical feel to me and their products are functional rather than fun. Some lip glosses shout ‘fun’- Stila Lip Glaze, Lancome’s Juicy Tubes- and some scream classy- Dior’s Addict lip gloss has to be the most glamourous around- but the Superbalm just states “I’m here to do a job.” It comes in a small tube containing 7ml of balm and is designed in exactly the same way as Lancome’s Juicy Tubes with a slanted applicator for easy application. Unlike the Juicy Tubes or Stila lip glaze though, they’ve splashed the Clinique green all over the tube, presumably to make it appeal to a more mature age group but actually makes it look rather unattractive and cheap. Call me a snob, but if I’m going to fork out for a pricey product, I like it to look pricey as well! The tube is very functional though- small enough to fit into the smallest handbag!
*Application*
On application I found that this was different to any lip balm I’d tried before- squeezing it out of the tube was quite difficult and this forces you to massage it into your lips, getting rid of dead skin cells and plumping up the lips. Because of this massaging effect, I find that I can’t wear this over lipstick or the lipstick just ends up all over the tube! The consistency is very light and slightly more sticky than other lip glosses I’ve tried but feels really smooth when you rub your lips together.
*Colour and Gloss*
Once applied, the colour is very sheer- on me the mango tint gives a really subtle barely there hint of colour and a pretty glossy finish. If you’re looking for a more striking look the raspberry tint gives a more noticeable colour. Unlike a lot of other lip glosses, you don’t have to spend ages picking out one that will suit you, as all 3 shades should suit everyone! Because the colour is so subtle, it’s perfect for people who just want a really natural look, but if your style is more dramatic then this probably won’t suit you. But it’s once you’ve applied this that you really notice the main difference between this and the Juicy Tubes or Stila Lip glaze. One of the best things for me about lip gloss is the fantastic smell that they have- strawberry, raspberry, orange- fruit smells always create such a fun, summery feel. But, as with all Clinique products, the Superbalm has no smell at all- it’s 100% fragrance free. But, while this is a disappointment for me, for other people who don’t like strongly scented products, this would be a huge bonus. And it certainly reduces the temptation to lick it all off!
*Staying Power*
Where the Superbalm really wins points from me is in its staying power- I’ve never had a lip gloss before that lasts this long! I can apply this and 3 hours later it’s still there! Obviously it doesn’t make it through a meal but you can’t expect miracles! And I do find that it works as a moisturiser- my lips are much softer and in much better condition when I use this.
Clinique products can be bought in Boots, Debenhams or House of Fraser stores. The Superbalm tinted lip treatment (7ml) costs £9 so is on a par price-wise with other quality brand glosses like the Juicy Tubes (10ml) which cost £12. And because the Clinique gloss doesn’t need re-applying as frequently, I find that, even though you get less gloss, it lasts a lot longer than a Juicy Tube.
Advantages: good for the lips Disadvantages: bad for the wallet
...I waited til the summer, Clinique were bringing out a new range with a hint of colour. So – I waited! I bought this in Duty Free as, although Boots and Debenhams sell this, it was more than I was willing to pay. * The packaging *
A small green box with the Clinique logo in silver writing contains the tube, which is .24 fl oz/7 ml.
Price in duty free - £7.65
Price normally - Debenhams and Boots both sell it for £9.00.
Other colours available – ... ...Juicy Tube. My particular Clinique Superbalm is in a tube which is green at the top and the lid is also green, but the bottom half is see-through and a coral colour is showing through. The superbalm stands on its lid.
The top unscrews easily to reveal a similar applicator to the Juicy Tube – a slanted tip. The tube is small enough to easily fit in your handbag – and get lost! ;-)

...cap are in the typical Clinique mint green. The front of the tube is adorned with the silver Clinique C I have come to love, the writing Clinique, and beneath it 'superbalm tinted lip treatment'. The back of the tube states 01 Grape Tint, Allergy Tested 100% Fragrance Free and 'Superhydrating lip balm with a hint of colour' (roughly translated from the German on the back of my tube, which I bought here in Switzerland).
After removing the screw-off ... ...bought much cheaper, only to be disappointed by the results, I would have saved myself a good bit of cash if I had discovered Superbalm earlier!
So, if you want soft, shiny kissable lips, give it a try at your nearest Clinique counter!
Happy smooching!

Advantages: Shiny, moisturising Disadvantages: Sticky, expensive, very little colour
Clinique is one of the best-selling brands for cosmetics in the UK and I generally like their products. Clinique is an offshoot of the Estee Lauder company and neither test on animals :-) I got Superbalm Tinted Lip Treatment in Mango free when I went for a consultation at the Clinique counter; it usually costs £9.00 for 7ml.

This lip balm comes in a small green tube with a screw-on lid. The product is dispensed through ... ...or what.
Texture
"""""""""""
Clinique Tinted Superbalm has a relatively thick texture, which means it can feel a little sticky on the lips. I personally prefer something a little lighter and less gloopy (not sure if that's a word :-)), though I've yet to find a lip balm that doesn't feel at least a little sticky. The thick texture does mean that the balm looks very glossy on though which, along with the extra moisture, makes your lips luck full ...

Advantages: ~Sheer, no scent, Moisture in spades~ Disadvantages: ~Only three tints as well as clear~
...Kieli Tip: Use Clinique Moisture Sheer Lipstick SPF15 lightly, then apply your favourite Superbalm. For instance, applying CMSLSPF15 in Sheer Natural, then applying Superbalm in Mango Tint gives you just enough tint with a glossy, moisturizing 'cushion'. That leaves your lips kissably smooth long after the product has gone. As a side note, don't use Mango with Violets in the line, nor use Grape with any Tawnies. And with that... Grape Tint: This ... ...packaging is the normal chic Clinique green and clear tube with Silver and white lettering. The top is twist off. Application: The product itself is quite thick as it comes from the tube, but it applies quite smoothly. There are three ways to apply: One: Use the applicator tip. I don't really like this, as oils from your lips can enter the tip of the tube once you have smeared it over your lips. Two: Use your finger. Squeeze some of the product on ...

Advantages: very glossy Disadvantages: much too heavy, no scent
I got this balm as part of a free gift a while ago. First of all, I have a problem with the name "Clinique Superbalm Tinted Lip Treatment". The "tint" does not show up on your lips at all, it could be clear for all you know. It is also not a "balm", I would definiatly classify this as a gloss because of the consistancy and mega shine. I don't think it is a "lip treatment" either because it is not moisturizing or have any lasting effects
The biggest ... ...It feels so heavy and sticky on your lips. I would recomend this if you want a really shiny, heavy duty gloss but don't want to pay for the Lancome Juicy Tube. It is the cheaper, not as good quality-wise version of the Juicy Tube
Not a horrible product but not one to rave about either
Hope this helps! ...
