With my wedding coming up in August I was considering having my makeup done by a professional makeup artist. I've been experimenting with makeup since I was about 13 and am quite confident with doing my own, but in case I'm too nervous I do have a back up plan. My cousin is a beauty therapist and even though she doesn't usually do makeup she says she will do it for me on the day if we have a few practices beforehand.
So first on the list was to invest in some brushes. I looked on the internet and was horrified to find brushes cost between about £10 and £25 EACH for decent quality ones. I found a set of 7 SMASHBOX brushes on ebay for under £40 so snapped them up. These included a foundation brush which I'd been thinking of getting for months.
The brush worked wonders with my cheap old £5 foundation and I decided that (at my age) I may as well treat myself to some good stuff. For the wedding of course! I took a trip to Boots (I love that place!) before Christmas to get some presents for my colleagues. On my way past I wandered through Debenhams looking at the premium beauty counters such as Chanel, Estee Lauder & Clinique. I felt a bit intimidated by Debenhams so moved on to Boots. While I was there I notice, OH JOY! The Clinique Counter has an offer. 800 extra reward points with every 3 products purchase!
That sold it to me! I spoke to the Clinique lady and told her I'd been recommended SUPERFIT by makeup artists on a make up advice message board. I said I wasn't sure what colour I would need. She did me a colour match & recommended a powder and concealer. I told her about the wedding and she suggested I go back for a makeover. I think I will! So I purchased my 3 products - the foundation cost £17.50 which is over 3 times what I am used to paying so I was thinking "This better be good!"
The foundation comes in a plastic bottle with a silvery lid. The top of the bottle has a thin nozzle which I expect would stop too much coming out. This comes packaged in a green & pink flowery box with a big silver C on the front.
When I got home I suggested to my fiancé that we go to the pub for the evening. That gave me an excuse to have a shower and try out my new makeup! I dabbed a small drop on my finger and then put on my forehead, repeated this on each cheek and a smaller drop on my nose & chin. Using my foundation brush I spread the foundation and blended it into my face. It went on beautifully and I didn't need very much at all! The liquid is quite runny and blends easily.
The first time I wore it I did think maybe it looked slightly dark or thick, but I checked my reflection from the side & I couldn't see any tide-marks. I think the coverage was slightly heavier than what I was used to in my previous foundation, but that is no bad thing. It evened out my complexion with a nice matte effect. I don't really have many blemishes and since using the Clinique 3 step skincare system, I haven't even had a zit so I wouldn't be able to tell you about covering those!
I used a bit of airbrush concealer to hide the bags under my eyes and finished with superpowder, then my eye makeup and I was ready to go! I've now worn the makeup for a good couple of weeks, for work and for nights out. I can definitely say it lasts ages and withstands a night of dancing! However, it was removed easily with the 3 step system and I didn't have to wash my face twice!
As I mentioned before, the foundation costs £17.50 for 30ml from Boots, Debenhams or Clinique.com. You can probably find it cheaper online but look out for Boots Advantage Card offers, or Clinique promotions such as Bonus Time. I expect this foundation to last longer than my previous one, as I've noticed that I don't need to use as much.
Definitely worth splashing out on if you can!
