I have found the PERFECT foundation. Those of you that have read my other make up ops will know that I have trouble with my skin. The trouble continues, but I do not need to hide behind my hair any longer. Hurrah!!
Following my recent initiation to the Clinique Three Step Skin Care, my face has improved. Following payment of a large chunk of overtime, I was ready to splurge, so back to the Clinique counter I went.
The conversation went a bit like this:
Me: I need a new foundation. As you can see, I have problem skin, so I want something to cover this up without making it worse. Also, I am getting married this year and so need to find exactly the right thing.
Clinique Counter Lady (CCL): I would advise Superfit Make up for you. It is oil free, so it won't block your pores and gives exceelent coverage.
Me: Can I have a sample to try out? (See, I learnt my lesson!!)
CCL: We don't do samples.
Me: What if it brings me out in huge spots? It's happened before!! (Panic)
CCL: Well, if that happens, bring it back and we'll happily refund your money.
Fantastic. So the CCL commenced with the skin cleaning and shade testing on my jawline. We agreed that shade no 5 - Neutral was the one for me and I forked over my seventeen english pounds.
I have used this foundation for nearly two months now, and have had nothing but compliments. It is the perfect shade for me, and blends seamlessly. It hasn't yet flaked, and hasn't rubbed off on my fiance's white shirts in the back of taxis. It covers almost every blemish I have had, and looks totally natural.
The formulation is lightweight, so you don't feel caked. The formulation is a little more fluid than I'm used to, but this seems to be a good thing, as a little goes a long way - I reckon the 30ml I bought will last for at least another month. I found that the best way to apply this is to put some on the back of your hand and then apply with a damp cosmetic sponge. Also, if you sort of roll the sponge over your face, instead of rubbing, this gives a better finish.
This foundation lasts until you choose to take it off - I've still looked reasonably good after 13 hours with no touch ups. When you do want to take it off, any cleanser or remover seems to do the trick - unusually, it all seems to come off in one or two goes. I don't know about you guys, but I've had those in the past that have taken three or four attempts to fully remove!!
Clinique Superfit Foundation costs £17 for 30ml in Debenhams. The packaging is the tradional Clinique floral peach box, and the bottle is flesh coloured plastic, with a silvertone lid and logo. The bottle looks quite solid, but is surprisingly squeezy and the apeture is small enough that you probably wont get this spurting all over your white sofa.
My only criticism is that the bottle isn't see through, so it's quite hard to gauge how much is left. Apart from that, it's great.
Also, please don't be scared of the scary, professionally made up ladies at these counters. If they get hoity toity with you, walk away, secure in the knowledge that they've just lost their commission. Most of them seem to be lovely, and not at all looking down their nose at you. They do look scary, because they wear more makeup than average, but really, it's just their uniform!!

whenever i think of clinique and all those other ladies that wear the mass makeup at those counters... i remember miss piggy and joan rivers in the muppet movie... "Muppets Take Manhattan" in which those two put makeup on each other and look absolutely ridiculous.. hehe... take care... 'peaches n beans'
