*Updated* The opinion below was written just over a year ago, but as many of you may have heard, there is another free trial pack which can be obtained from all clinique counters. This time the trial packs are much bigger (15g of soap, 15ml of clarifying lotion and 15ml of moisturising lotion), and the cleanser and moisturiser now come in bottles which are great for taking on holiday with you: *Original Opinion* I haven't wriien an opinion for quite a while now, but I'm back and ready to write more - hope you like it :)
Clinique is a 3-step skin care system which I believe has been available for quite a few years, but I have only noticed it around for about a year now. I was first introduced to clinque by my mother, who said that she had visited one of the counters and received some freebies – a facial soap, some clarifying lotion and some moisturising lotion. I decided to try this out for myself as it was free (and being a student, you don’t often turn down many free things) and so visited the clinique counter at ‘Boots’. The lady on the counter was extremely helpful and explained to me what these new products were all about. Basically, there are three different steps to the care system, as mentioned above – Firstly there is the facial soap which is used to cleanse your skin. Once you have applied the soap and rinsed, you then come to the second step, which is to apply clarifying lotion. This is to de-flake your skin. You sweep the lotion over your skin with, say a cotton ball, and then you come to the third step which is to use the moisturising lotion to smooth your skin. This process is said to take just three minutes (if you have seen the adverts then you will be familiar with this), but of course you can take as long as you wish. You are advised to do this twice a day every day. However, it is not as simple as just picking up a soap/bottle/lotion. It is even better than this- there are different types of soap/lotions. When you visit the clinique counter, you are asked a set of questions, from which the answers you give are used to determine what skin type you are, hence what products are most suitable for you. I am skin type 1/11, which means that I have cleansing lotion number 2, but a person with a different skin type may be given cleansing lotion number 1 or 3.
The questions you are asked are as follows; each has four answers, from which you choose the one closest to your description (the assistant will help you with anything that you are unsure of): What is the colour of your eyes? What is your natural hair colour? What is your skins response to the sun without ant special sun protection? What is your natural skin colouring? What is your pore size? Do you have a tendency to breakout? Oiliness of skin versus dryness? Do you have any surface facial lines?
For example, for question 4, you have the option of choosing very fair, moderately fair, medium or dark/olive. From the answers given, you will find a regular pattern of skin type. From my personal experience I can say that this is most definitely something worth trying. You receive a fair size sample of the products (7g of soap, 8ml of clarifying lotion and 4ml of moisturising lotion), and after all it’s free, so what do you have to loose? Everyone who I have spoken to think it’s great, and have always had excellent customer service.
If there is a downside to clinique, it is that to buy the products in large, it can be very costly: Facial soap: 150g - £12.00 Clarifying lotion: 400ml – £21.00 200ml - £13.50 Moisturising lotion: 125ml -£24.50 50ml-£14.00 However, it really works! After using the 3 products, my face feels and looks so much better. My skin is softer than before and the clarifying lotion really does get rid of a lot of dirt which you didn’t realise was there. It is also fantastic at removing make-up. Definitely recommended!

Brilliant review of Cliniques 3-step system. I use this too and have done for about 2 and 1/2 years. I find that although it may seem pricey at the outset the products do last a long time. Plus if you can buy at their Bonus Time you get more freebies!

Nice op, thanks. Last time I was at www.pharmacy2u.com they were selling Clinique stuff off at reduced prices; it might be worth looking to see if the offer is still on!
