The wonder that is Clinique was introduced to me by my old make-up and beauty-savvy housemate a few years ago. I had never heard of it, but then, that could just be me - I was never really one for following make-up trends and stuff...
As first I was (understandably) a bit shocked - £30 odd for a moisturiser! Insane! However, when I tried a few of my housemate's things (one of the many variants of moisturiser, and others) I realised that actually, the reason it's pricey is because it's really good stuff!
I'm afraid she (or should I say, Clinique) got me hooked because I use it all the time now - my main purchases include nude pressed powder (£16 - one compact lasts a long time, and makes your skin look really good), eye make-up remover (also around £16, comes in a blue bottle), kohl pencileye liner (both grey and khaki - not sure if you can buy this, or how much it is, as I got them both free!), and light, black mascara (£12.50). All of them last for ages, and really feel like they are of some quality - for example the liner is very creamy.
One of the great things about Clinique is Bonus Time. This is when you can buy any (really, ANY) two products from their range and you get a goodie bag full of freebies. These usually include mini perfumes ('Happy', 'Elixir', ' Simply' etc), full-size lipsticks (obviously you don't get a choice of shades, thugh it would be nice!), eyeliners (as I have mentioned), lipglosses, mini miosturisers, and other stuff too! Obviously, the reason for them is to encourage you to buy propers versions of the freebies, but I find that they last so long, that I just wait for the next Bonus Time to see what I get! They come along every few months, and are at different times in different stores (such as John Lewis, Debenhams - most stores with make-up counters really). Although you have to buy two products to get the bag, I worked out that the amount you get usually works out at about £20 in free stuff, so it's eally good value.
Clinique is reputedly good for sensitive skin, as it is non-fragrenced, however I have found that their 3 Step cleanser and toners are REALLY strong (even the one specifically for sensitive skins) - the toner actually smells like nail varnish remover...slightly worrying, and soap dries out my skin. Consequently, I stick to the products I know, as detailed above.
So, I would partly recommend Clinique, but advise those who think they might be allergic to try a friend's first if they can.
