When I discovered I was pregnant, the first thing that everybody said (after Congratulations), was "what are you going to do with the cats?". The general consensus of opinion seemed to be that having 3 cats was not compatible with having a baby in the house. Somebody said you will have to get rid of them, and I said, no way, because up until then, our 3 cats were our babies!
I started looking into cat-proofing the cot and nursery. One easy option was to shut the bedroom doors, therefore stopping the cats from going in there!
After a bit of research I settled on this one, the Clippasafe Cot Cat Net. It is suitable for both cots and cot beds.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Well, the Cat Net is made of a strong secure open weave white mesh. It fits right over the whole cot and then ties underneath at each of the four legs, making it secure. The idea then being I presume that if a cat jumps onto the net it will rebound and bounce across the room (!).
It fits a standard size cot of approximate size 130cm long x 65 wide x 65cm drop to bottom of mattress.
It fits a cot bed of approximate size 150cm long x 75 wide x 75cm drop bottom of mattress
DOES IT WORK?
In a word, NO.
It simply isnt tight/taut enough to repell a cat. We let our cat stand on it, expecting the net to stay in place, but the cat simply went down into the cot on top of the net.
This is obviously dangerous, as if a baby were in there, not only would it have a cat on top of it, but it would also be smothered by the net as well!!!!
We simply could not tie the net tight enough to keep a cat off a baby. We have tied them as tight as they will go and it just doesnt work, there appeares to be too much net and not enough elasticity.
WOULD I RECOMMEND IT?
NO! I would not recommend this product.
As per above, the net doesnt actually do what it is supposed to do , ie, keep cats off your baby.
I did not use ours as I felt it would be too dangerous for a baby to be under it if it did come down.
WHERE CAN I GET ONE?
Well, hopefully after reading this review, you won't want to get one, However, should you wish to buy one, you can purchase them from
www.kiddicare.com - for approximately £15 www.ebay.co.uk - for varying prices. www.clippasafe.co.uk - for £13.99 and £15.50 according to size
I actually paid £4.99 for mine on Ebay. I haven't bothered trying to resell it on there!
HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BABY FROM A CAT?
Simple, never leave your baby alone with a cat.
Never let your cat sleep with your baby!!
Keep your bedrooms cat free. We can do this easily as we live in a bungalow with a door to the bedrooms that we can keep closed at all times.
Our cats have accepted our baby, but one of them is extremely bad tempered and therefore we do not leave her alone with the baby

We had one of these and we have three cats. Luckily our cats were so shocked at my daughters arrival and the constant crying they kept out of her way. Even now (Holly is nearly 3) two of my cats will not stay in the same room as her.

We don't have cats or babies, but that would be very useful to someone who has!
