(+) home treatments so no traffic, no parking problems and if you have kids you dont have to drag them to a salon (-) maybe not such hi-tech equipment as a salon
Advantages: Fairly cheap membership fee, decent enough facilities Disadvantages: A lot of niggling problems
I have been a member at Greens Health & Fitness club in Stoke for around about three years now, as it is convenient for me to use and close enough to work to use at lunchtime. I was previously a member at Total Fitness Gym but left as the membership fees were getting too high.
Greens has a good gym, with decent quality cardio machines (we have treadmills, exercise bikes, cross trainers, rowing machines, step machines and what we call 'wave' machines which give a similar motion to skiing), a weight room, two rooms for organised classes and a room with spinning bikes. There is a 25 metre pool with three jacuzzi's, a sauna and steam room, as well as an infra red sauna cabin, loungers and showers around the pool area.
There is a large car park with plenty of space, with entrance and exit controlled by a barrier. This is useful as ...
Advantages: Almost everything under one roof, excellent public transport links Disadvantages: The crowds - try to avoid peak periods.
I lived in London for 14 years. Specifically, I lived in west London - an area which is full of contradictions - the Notting Hill of the movie and remnants of the Shepherds Bush of Steptoe & Son.
In the 14 years I lived there I saw a lot of changes and a lot of proposed changes, one of which was a shopping centre in Shepherds Bush. We lived in an area which was only a short stroll from the land mooted for this centre and were going to be affected by this development so as a result I was aware of its existence almost from conception.
Over the years progress was slow - I saw the Vanderbilt Club demolished (a place made famous because Princess Diana played tennis there) and a local hostelry vanish. By the time I moved from London in 2004 it seemed to me that only some foundations and a new road for the builders had been completed and I ...
Advantages: A piece of Medieval London Disadvantages: Not enough exhibits
What is it for?
It has 2 main functions – it’s the centre of the City of London’s government since Medieval times, and it’s used by the Lord Mayor for ceremonial duties. Each November, just after the Lord Mayor is elected he entertains the Prime Minister to a banquet paid out of his own money (so it helps if he’s rich!). In the past it’s also been used for trials like the one for Lady Jane Grey (she who only lasted 9 days on the throne!)
The Court of Aldermen meet here 15 times a year, and the Court of Common Council meet every third Thursday. Both meetings are public and are presided over by the Lord Mayor.
When was it built?
It was completed about 1422, but only the porch, the crypt and the lower part of the great hall survive. The stone entrance is designed by George Dance ...
Very close to Sutton Coldfield town centre and any bus route that goes into Sutton COldfield. It's close enough to pay a quick visit during your lunch break.
None that I can think of except that I can't go as often as I would like (*)
