I first heard of CIS insurance through my parents. My Father was looking for insurance for my mum and stumbled across CIS in the pursuit of the cheapest quote. This was around 10 years ago now but the company at the time was the cheapest.
I followed suit when I passed my test - although to keep the cost lower I insured the car in my mum's name (as she was older)…. However the downside to this through insuring with CIS is that the car ... ...car is now registered under my mum's name!
The quote was reasonable, bearing in mind that the policy covered any driver of any age. In addition my partner had 3 speeding points on his license - CIS stated that they ignore the first speeding offence so this did not affect the quote price - BONUS!
However, within 3 weeks of changing my car I had a close encounter with a Taxi - he drove straight into my rear end!!! more
I first heard of CIS insurance through my parents.
However the downside to this through insuring with CIS is that the car needs to be registered in the policyholder's name. So my car is now registered under my mum's name!
So my very first claim procedure began - I called CIS and they promptly sent out the claim form. On completion of this there was a delay but not due to the insurance company but due to the taxi driver not reporting the accident to his insurance company. On hounding the taxi firm they finally reported it and CIS went into action on the compensation claim.
The damage to my car was completed within a week and I received a courtesy car for the time I was without mine (as I have fully comprehensive insurance). I only had to pay an excess of £50 which was fabulous, not sure of many companies that offer this any more!
Once they receive all the details from the other insurer, and a solicitor was assigned the claim began. I received my compensation a year later.
This was a little claim; my partner has had cause to claim via CIS on numerous occasions (One ongoing at the moment). His previous one was for a motorbike accident where he was hit by a lorry. CIS sent a representative to us to look at the damage on the bike and to assess the likelihood of a repair - which was a relief as the bike was not drivable and we did not have the means to get the bike to the garage.
Within a week we had received the report that the bike was a total write off. We were concerned as the bike was less than a year old and was on finance so we though we would be left with interest payments…. But NO - CIS paid the whole lot off so they actually paid out more than the market value for the bike.
They assigned a solicitor for the compensation claim which proved as efficient and friendly as the solicitor I dealt with.
Now my partner is going through another claim, bigger than the last but they are still as efficient as ever. This is another solicitor, but all have been or are competent. There is the usual paperwork that goes with solicitors - for those of you that have not experienced it - that's LOTS… but the paperwork to CIS is minimal… they simply need to know a small amount of information to get your claim dealt with.
Personally now when my policy comes up for renewal I don't even consider looking else where. The only fault I would say there is with CIS is trying to contact the general admin office in Gloucester - they never seem to answer the phone! The claims centre in Bristol is great; they are friendly and always answer the phone.
This to me is a little blip in the service and will not affect my opinion of them.
Indeed my partner did look around when his policy came up for renewal and found cheaper quotes. On thinking about it he decided to pay the extra and stay with CIS as we know that upon a claim the company is fantastic and cannot be faulted. They are speedy, efficient and have very good solicitors working for them.
This side of the insurance should not be under-estimated, an accident is bad enough to cope with, and the last thing you want to find out is that your insurance company is inefficient when you need to make a claim! Therefore I would recommend CIS, even if the quote is a little more expensive!
I only hope that you never need to see this side of the insurance company - I wish you all SAFE JOURNEYS!
I have received renewal document and CIS have instructed that they are no longer offering 'any driver' policies and only offering policies on a named drive bases.... At the present it doesn't look liek they will change the premium as they are only asking for basic details - name of driver, age, number of years licence held and relationship to policyholder... and conviction details!
They have not asked for previous accident data. I will update this again should they ask for more details!
Advantages: Reasonable premiums. Good glass cover Disadvantages: Its car insurance, therefore its an unwanted expense isn't it
I have been with the CIS for around 3 years now and have had no problems with the service given. I was shopping around to get a better quote and remembered a friend of the family was an agent for CIS. So I called her up and asked her for a quote. Despite her not being able to give a discount for being a friend there was a 10% joining discount available. I think they still offer this but don’t quote me on that!
Anyway, the quote I got was better ... ...up there and then. This was a fully comprehensive quote with a £150 excess. It includes legal cover. Monthly payments (with interest) are available, however I pay annually. Ow!
I was unfortunate enough to have a small bump on a cold icy day and I had no problems sorting my car out. I called my agent who gave me the address of my nearest approved repairer. The approved repairer scheme is second to none as a courtesy car is provided whilst your motor ...

My Yaris GLS is now insured with CIS (The Co-op) after more ringing round than you can imagine. Here is my story…
My last car was a Mazda MX3 V6, a bit different I know! Whilst in the work car park I reversed into another ... ...late – it was deemed to be my fault, so I paid my excess, felt annoyed and thought nothing more about it. At the end of that year I was changing my car to a Toyota Yaris, I was insuring the Mazda through ‘Performance Direct’ at a cost of about £450 per year. (33-year-old woman, no accidents etc) I phoned around for a quote on the Yaris, and got ones ranging from £600 up to £900. I couldn’t understand it. I was trading in my ...

Advantages: Good cover, cheap Disadvantages: Bad customer service, slow with paperwork.
I have been with CIS for five years, ever since I started driving, and have never had problems with them before. Their cover is cheap, and very good (cover to drive any other person's vehicle third party only included as standard- even for 18 year olds). There is no extra fee for paying by direct debit. I have recommended them to many of my friends, but I have just changed my insurance to a different company. Why? Read on.
First, I must explain ... ...with your cover. My problem started when I decided to pay by direct debit this year instead of cash, like last year. I decided to do this because CIS sent me a renewal notice for my old car, when I have had my new one about two months. I phoned them to ask for an up to date figure, and was told I would have to pay this one, and then pay a further amount later. I thought, if I paid by direct debit, it would save me the trouble. CIS can be very slow ...

Advantages: Cheap, reliable and good customer service Disadvantages: None as yet!
I have had CIS insurance now for 1 year and to be frank they are great, when searching for a motor quote on teh internet last year I tried CIS for a cheap quote.
Their Internet site is extremely easy to use and is down to teh point it takes about 10 mins to fill out an online form and then returns a quote, which if you agree to you can request that and Agent calls you for more details.
My quotes with every one else where very very high, these offered ... ...I couldn't find anywhere else.
They also offer a great APR if you want to spread the cost over 12 months
Since then I have had no problems with my insurance at all, if I have ever wanted anything I can easily call the customer service dept and tehy sort anything out, if it is out of office hours I can also call my local agnet who is always on hand to help with nay sort of queries.
I got my renewal quote through today and with all the rumours going ...

Advantages: Full proffesional assitance given. Disadvantages: Claims may be a lengthy process.
After passing my driving test i was bought a car by my parents. First though i had the arduous task of obtaining insurance. After shopping around as always i was given a quote by CIS, which was some £500 pounds cheaper than some of the previous astronomical prices i was quoted, and therefore accepted the quote. I did though opt for third party only cover. So whilst commuting home one night, only 2 months after obtaining cover, a large wagon decided ... ...couldnt see through his mirrors as his vehicle was left hand drive being a Portuguese driver. I luckily escaped with only minor injury, though my car did not. I contacted CIS who passed me onto a company named DAS who had the car inspected and cofirmed as a write off. I was then assigned a solicitor who is acting on my behalf to trace the other parties foreign insurers, which has now been done. And i await to hear from the medical examiners who will ...

Advantages: Prompt attention to claims, personal service through local agents, and fast settlement Disadvantages: none I can think of
I have been insuring my home contents with CIS for many years, and I have always found them to offer excellent value for money.
Of course, the real test is in making a claim, and over the years I have unfortunately had to make several.
The largest claim was when the house became flooded overnight by a fault on the washing machine. The water had completly submerged the kitchen floor, and spread all through the downstairs rooms. My 3 year son noticed it first thing in the morning, and came up to the bedroom to tell me that I would need water-boots on downstairs. Luckily I had a vacuum cleaner which could remove water and I spent most of the day salvaging things like books, and lifting the soaked carpet.
I phoned CIS and the next day an insurance assessor called. I expected him to try to limit CIS's liability, and was very ...

and assures me we can set up the insurance there and then. He also apologised and assured me the situation is being looked into. I have to say I am feeling much more positive about the Co-Op service after this. I guess alot will depend on the service I receive tomorrow, but I feel that the Co-Op have been better tahn most companies in handling my complaint and restoring my faith in them ...
Advantages: Prompt service,Great prices, Mutual company, no obligation Disadvantages: none so far
After asking for information on the products and services offered by the C.I.S on their website, I received a home visit.
The representative called me to arrange a suitable time for his visit, and arrived promptly with his bag of tricks. He started by doing a complete financial review and making sure we were aware that we were under no obligation to follow his recommendations.
We were stunned by the price of the life insurance, the cover was excellent and we signed up for that immediately. Because of the society's mutuality they can give realistic prices for their products. Our Home insurance was also due for renewal so we asked for a quote for that, we had been paying over £10 per month for our old policy which was basic to say the least. We were given top of the range insurance for the same price.
So when our car insurance ...
