For a long time I have been reading books by Sophie Kinsella. I found her style of writing to be really good and the stories she writes are very well written and I really enjoy her books. I discovered recently that she has released some books under her original name Madeleine Wickham and when I saw one in Asda I was really keen to see how good it was.
This book, Cocktails for Three, is about three friends who meet up on the first of the month each month at a cocktail bar for a really good gossip and catch up. The characters are called Roxanne, Maggie & Candice who all have something going on in their lives.Roxanne has a secret lover who she really wants to tell her friends about him but cant as he is married and secretly she wants him to leave his wife for her but will never tell that to him.
Maggie is an editor of a magazine but is to go on maternity leave as she is expecting her first child with her husband but will she cope as well with that as she does with her job. Then there is Candice who is hard working and a very honest and caring person.
On one of these regular meet ups, Candice meets an old friend who she used to go to school with and from there things begin to take a turn but is it for better or worse as it puts the three’s friendship at threat, will they survive it or will it be the end of a beautiful friendship. As soon as you read about the three characters you fall in love with all of them and want to know where they are going to progress into the story as all three of their lives seem interesting and you want to see what that next step of both their lives and the friendship will be.
This makes the book a wonderful story and very hard to put down as you are intrigued by it right from beginning to end and as it is written by Madeleine Wickham you know you are going to be gripped by the story line.It would be fair to say the book is very much a girly read and the story is written to appeal to us ladies. I think that perhaps men wouldn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much. I would be happy to recommend the book to anyone who already is familiar with her work as Sophie Kinsella.
I would say this book is definitely worth a read and that once you start reading it you will find it hard to put down. You can buy it from Asda or Tesco who normally have offers on the books that the sell as I got this one from Asda on a two for £7 offer.
