Cold Fear (PS2)

was almost put off buying this game when i saw a multitude of poor online reviews. in the end, the low price tag won me over (£8.96?! its only a recent game!). luckily cold fear did not disappoint!
the control system is pretty straightforward, although i did struggle with the manual aim at the first (us survival horror fans arent used to having to aim, its usually just a case of draw weapon and shoot... pressing 'up' or 'down' only in the most extreme circumstances!).

cold fear has a decent enough plot (think 'alien' meets '28 days later'... yes those zombies really do run!), but, like early resident evil games has rubbish dialogue! this isnt such a bad thing though, as a little light humour (although unintended) certainly helps to relieve the tension.

the action is much more fast paced than your average survival horror. the atmosphere is truly gripping and for the first time scary, rather than merely unnerving. the difficulty level is tough, even on normal, so you get a great deal of satisfaction from your progress. the save game points aren't as far apart as some reviewers have made them out to be!

give it a go - it might not be everyones cup of tea, but if you're a fan of the survival horror genre and in search of something a little tougher, this might be for you. i love it!
