With only one other opinion so far on this toothpaste, I felt it was my duty to write another! It is currently on offer in Boots at £1.16 for a 100ml tube (usually about £1.60 I think) so I thought I'd snap some up. I was attracted by the herbal factor, being a clean living healthy kind of girl! It clearly states on the packaging that it has chamomile, sage, myrrh and eucalyptus as its main 'herbal' ingredients.
I'm not sure what the main benefits of having these herbs flavouring a toothpaste are but I suppose they are added to offer a different flavour? (so you may as well stick to mint if you are happy with this as this is more expensive than the usual range!). The packaging is well....very green, although still with the very distinctive Colgate logo. They have kindly provided some pictures of some flowers (presumably the herbs but they look like daisies to me!).
On to the taste.....yuk! I expect something a bit more 'herby'! I am sitting here in the name of research tasting this stuff...and its very potent! It tastes exactly like Liquorice Allsorts. Fine if you like liquorice but I can't stand it and it leaves a rather sweet taste in your mouth. As for cleaning...well a toothpaste is a toothpaste isn't it! It works, but then again so does Tesco Value!!
Another strange aspect of it is the colour of the toothpaste itself. It is actually striped but not like the usual striped stuff - these stripes are all uneven (I'm picky aren't I!). Try as I might I cannot squeeze the stuff slower to make even stripes (maybe I have a dodgey tube??).
The tube is plastic but I much preferred the metal tubes of years ago (am I showing my age?). They held their shape better and it was much easier to get the remaining squeeze out! I also have a problem with toothpaste manufacturers putting strong plastic tubes in boxes - what a total waste of packaging (the tube itself is unlikely to split as they are coated inside with metal). Very environmentally unfriendly (I know there are a few that do not do this, although it would be nice if the big manufacturers thought about it!).
Anyway to conclude, as far as the taste goes you may as well be munching on liquorice - great if you like it, disgusting if you don't! I don't see the benefits from having herbal stuff - it doesn't seem better for you or the environment (or at least Colgate doesn't state this on its packaging!). Very pretty packaging but I will be sticking to my usual minty stuff - cheaper, tastier and leaves my mouth feeling much fresher. I feel I have been conned!
An hour on.....I actually have a really sickly taste in my mouth - I'm off to clean my teeth....with some proper stuff this time!
Advantages: Sensitive on your teeth Disadvantages: No whitening
...you’re paying the bill) that Colgate herbal would not agitate her mouth as much and she should try it.
Now like mother like daughter, because mother had it, Jilly had to have it (I can still hear her screaming I WANT in the store).
One temper tantrum later, and a few grumbles from me walked away with a tube with 100ml of the sticky white stuff from our local Asda (taps pocket….that’s Asda price) and for a princely sum of £1.49. ... ...Contrary to what she said Colgate had not fitted child proof locks to the tube but the over tightening in the factory.
~~~~The Smell~~~~
Its hard to describe, a plethora of smells meet you nostrils, there’s mint and well……..it just smells herbal (there’s not much of description there, but its all I can describe) it just smells clean and healthy. Ok I’m kidding, but ill cover it later, because with every smell comes ...
...husband is using is called Colgate fresh confidence and this does actually have more ingredients listed so why doesn't the herbal one? The telephone number for the UK is 00-800-321321-32 and there address here is Guildford GU12 8JZ and there is an e-mail address as well which is eurcolgate@colpal.com.
I emailed them and asked them for a list of the ingredients, they then sent me a reply, straight away, saying that they wanted my mailing address ... ...that one! Will update when received ( or should I say if!)
I like this toothpaste because it does leave your teeth nice and clean and your breath nice as well. If you haven't tried it give it a go but remember that its not like the minty ones we are all used to so give it a couple of days to get used to it!
Thanks for reading Amanda.. ...
Advantages: Gets your teeth clean, like all the rest Disadvantages: Tastes very medicinal
...no different from your usual Colgate toothpaste, that is, it's chock full of the usual scientific-sounding ingredients.
There is nothing on the pack to tell us what the properties of any of these herbs are, in respect to dental care. I guess they don't feel able to make any claims which they can't prove. The only thing it says on the pack like this is "Strong healthy teeth", which is more of a slogan than a promise.
So it's best to regard the 'herbal' ... ...It seems to me that Colgate herbal is essentially a gimmick, designed to make you think you're buying a product that's 'green', which is okay if you like the taste, but don't forget it's still made by Colgate Palmolive, a huge multinational corporation. I believe there are lots of reasons to use a herbal toothpaste, one that has all natural ingredients, but Colgate herbal is by no means the best. Hopefully, though, it may persuade shoppers like myself ...
Advantages: pleasant taste if you like that sort of thing Disadvantages: quite expensive
...freshness to me!
The Colgate logo is still splattered across the box and the tube (as you’d probably expect). They’ve spent a fortune on getting market share, brand loyalty and there logo smeared all over the media etc. but to emphasise the herbal aspect not only do we have herbs on the box but the box is green too. I have to admit when you see the box you do get a sense of environmentally friendly, natural and kind and gentle nature ... ...it’s a good marketing ploy.
The toothpaste itself is also green/white random stripes but is more green than white - but I can’t tell you whether this is from the herbs directly (sage, chamomile, myrrh and eucalyptus) or whether there is an added ingredient producing the “greenness”. Taste wise, well it’s hard to describe it’s not overly herby which was a little disappointing but too herby and it ran the risk og ...
Advantages: mint is missing Disadvantages: far too sweet
...The ready availability of Colgate Herbal in the local supermarket will potentially spare me the need to take a special bus ride on Saturdays to the nearest health food shop.
I actually found the flavour quite zingy, and refreshingly different from the usual mints. However, the toothpaste is way too sweet for my taste. According to the ingredients list, the sweetness is due to sorbitol, which will neither rot your teeth nor add calories, but does ... ...My own impression is that Colgate Herbal is a welcome change from the nasty minty stuff that one is normally forced to buy in supermarkets and chemists. It manages to appear in these places because it is produced by a big company. However, more appetising tooth cleaners can be found among the obscure brands stocked by health food shops. Nevertheless, this product is a welcome addition to the mainstream range. I can only hope that one day Colgate ...
Advantages: Great toothpaste that works Disadvantages: You need to use it on a regular basis, constantly
...A little while ago now I wrote an opinion on a new toothpaste that my mum bought me, it was on the ColgateHerbalToothpaste, I wrote on how impressed I was with it. Now with a few months gone, our toothpaste tube has run out and instead of going back to the supermarket and buying a new tube, my mum bought us our original toothpaste, the Colgate Whitening one.
So now I'm going to write and let you all know what I think of my original toothpaste. Remember, this toothpaste being a normal minty one!
First of all the the price, ranging around the normal price for a small squeezy tube of Colgate, my mum got us our 100ml tube for £1.69 which I think is pretty good.
Now a bit about the toothpaste itself, the toothpaste is surprisingly white!!! It keeps the normal minty, refreshing taste like normal toothpastes unlike the new herbal...
Advantages: Provides good dental care - protection for teeth and gums, fresh breath Disadvantages: None observed yet
...My husband does some of our shopping, and lately buys most of our toiletries. When I looked in the bathroom cupboard and saw this product, I thought 'Wow, another new invention by Colgate. I have used ColgateHerbal, Total Care, Triple Cavity Protection and I think Colgate Oxygen is the best so far. I was pleasantly surprised!
Colgate Oxygen Toothpaste manufactured by Colgate-Palmolive comes in a light blue and red pack. The toothpaste is a 100ml of light blue gel with dark blue flakes inside much like confetti in blue jelly (which may be exciting to the young and the young at heart). It gently lifts away plaque and food particles leaving your teeth literally squeaky clean with fresh breath and a confident smile.
One may wonder what it is about Colgate Oxygen that makes it better than some toothpastes in the market. Well, I have...
Advantages: Fresh breath and proven protection Disadvantages: None I have found yet
...So why do you use the toothpaste that you do? Because you have always used it, because Boots had a two for one offer on it or because you wanted the try the latest thing? Signal toothpaste is the one I've always used, Colgatetoothpastes are often on offer (and that's why I have this Total Fresh Stripe) and the latest herbaltoothpaste just doesn't appeal (especially after reading an opinion about it on Ciao).
Colgate Total Fresh Stripe is a minty, striped (surprise!) toothpaste that has been clinically proven to provide anti-bacterial protection against cavities, plaque, bad breath, tartar and gum problems. It is accredited by the British Dental Association and contains flouride, but if you are already using flouride supplements, it advises you to consult your dentist first. It claims to provide long lasting protection between...
