Like many products today, there is a huge variety and choice when it comes to oral care and toothpastes. Gone are the days when we just had plain white Colgate or soot to choose from, and the shelves are awash with a myriad of toothpastes and tooth whitening “systems”. I’ve never looked good sporting a mouth guard, which most of these systems employ, so I always opt for whitening toothpaste instead. The baking soda ones feel too gritty and chalky for my liking, so I started to use Colgate Total plus Whitening, and saw some great results.
The Product **************
Colgate Total plus Whitening is part of the Colgate Oral Care range which includes toothpastes, brushes, mouthwashes and children’s products. The toothpaste range is extremely wide, offering specific tartar control, plaque reduction and “gum health” products, as well as general toothpastes which offer all services!!!
This toothpaste is a fluoride based paste, and is designed to provide 12 hour protection against plaque, tartar, gum disease, cavities and, with its advanced whitening ingredient, restore the natural whiteness of your teeth by gently removing surface stains. It also has an anti-bacterial system to protect against bad breath, so should provide complete protection between brushings.
The Paste ************
The paste itself is mainly bright blue in colour, with noticeable thin white lines giving a striped effect. It is quite a stiff, sticky paste, meaning that it stays in place very well when first applied to a brush, and has a slightly gritty consistency, which allows it to adhere to the teeth well during brushing, so it does not disappear off down your chin or into the basin whilst brushing! It is recommended that you use this paste twice a day, morning and night, for complete protection.
Most noticeable about the paste when you first squeeze it from the tube is its very fresh mintyness. It is a very pleasant, spearmint, smell, which smells very natural and not artificial at all.
The Taste ************
When using the paste this mintyness really explodes, filling the mouth with strong, fresh minty flavour, and covering the teeth well with a white minty “froth”. The flavour is very fresh and strong, but not overpowering at all and I can tell that I’ve used this toothpaste well after I’ve finished brushing. It leaves a great, fresh taste in the mouth, almost like the taste you get after eating a Polo mint – it’s noticeable, but quite understated.
The Effects *************
Most importantly, this paste works! As you would expect from fluoride toothpaste it leaves my mouth feeling fresh and clean, and with a clean “smoothness” to my teeth when I feel them with my tongue.
Significantly, though, it has had a noticeable effect on the colour of my teeth. I’m a non-smoker, and do look after my teeth fairly well, so I only really had mild surface discolouration caused by red wine, coffee and the like, but there was a definite dulling of the usual pearly whiteness!!! However, after using this toothpaste twice a day for only a week or so, I noticed that these stains had started to disappear and now I’m very pleased with, and very proud of, the look and feel of my teeth! Hopefully my dentist will agree when I see her next week!!!
I don’t usually chat about toothpaste to my friends (honest!), but I did mention this one to a friend of mine, who was complaining about the colour of his teeth due to smoking. He’s started to use it, too, and there is an improvement. It’s not really designed to tackle long standing deep stains, but it does seem to have a positive effect.
Packaging and Price ************************
Colgate Total plus Whitening is available in 100ml tubes, generally retailing at around £1.80 to £2 and, being part of the Colgate range, is very widely available in chemists, supermarkets and smaller stores.
I’ve seen it packaged in both traditional squeezy tubes and the more solid plastic tubes, which I have. Both of these are flashed with a silver label, and the white “Colgate” motif is very clearly seen against its traditional red background. Both tubes are packed in, predominantly, red boxes with the white Colgate lettering and the name of the product inside clearly visible.
The tube that I use is designed to stand on end, on a fairly sturdy base, and measures around 7 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter. The paste is dispensed through a pump action red nozzle, which is easily lifted by the thumb to allow the paste out of the hole. However, this nozzle is the only thing that I do not like about the paste!!! As you squeeze the paste out onto your brush, you have to stop the flow by closing the “trigger”. This does not cut the flow off cleanly, so you get errant paste around the nozzle and in the clear plastic lid that clicks over it. As you can imagine, this gets very sticky and then dries out, making the pump action quite high maintenance to keep the flow clean and free.
Recommendation *********************
I thoroughly recommend this toothpaste to anyone who is looking for an effective, fresh tasting toothpaste that cleans the teeth well, and to anyone that has mild surface discolouration or staining, because it really shifts them and gives you that Hollywood smile that you’ve always dreamed of!!!
...a review on the product Colgate Total plus Whitening
What is it:
Colgate is a tooth paste manufacturer who specialise in teeth whitening, not just normal cleansing but polishing the teeth and making them as white as can be.
More and more products are being brought out by Colgate every year.
This particular product:
This is one of many products brought out by Colgate its Total plus Whitening - it whitening Teeth; it fights cavities, Fights Tartar, ... ...a red banner where the Colgate Logo appears and beside it - the Total plus Whitener logo. The other side gives you directions of use and goes into detail on what the product is.
My Opinion on the Packaging: Red White and Blue have always been the Colgate branding colour and they are now well known all over the world. You could recognise it from across the room. I personally don't like the colour scheme - I don't like using blue and red together ...

...it to do!!! Colgate total is one of many toothpastes that i have tried, but the only one i have ever stuck with. Im hoping this review will tell you why and help others out in the search for a good toothpaste! The product itself.
Well the product itself comes ina blue and white patterned box with a red stripe going acrosss it. On the stripe in white letters is written the word colgate, and on the far right of the packaging it specifies the type ... ...whitening. The size options.
The toothpaste comes in 2 different sizes 1 small 1 bigger, but its not that much more expensive to buy the bigger tube, so i would recommend that size. the price, and where you can get it from Prices, as always, vary slightly from shop to shop, but its never more than a few pence. they can be purchased from any supermarket, pharmacy, boots, superdrug and even some newsagents etc (if its a large one!) I purchase mine ...

...existing tooth colour when using Colgate Total Plus Whitening. It cleaned my teeth very well but I am not sure about its Whitening effectiveness. However, I am now using Colgate MaxWhite with White Micro-Crystals with which I have experienced better results in preventing my teeth losing their whiteness or at least slowing down the process of natural de-whitening. I should stress that results will obviously vary from person to person and also be dependant ...

It's a nice fresh tasting toothpaste. Excellent for everyday cleaning. I use it on a daily basis and so do all my family. It cleans your teeth and leaves your mouth feeling fresh. I like to think it helps keep my teeth white but I cannot say that it definately does. It does not remove any stains that are already there but may help to keep new ones from forming as much as they would if I used another toothpaste. I like this toothpaste a lot more than ...

...I have grown up on colgate and have always loved the taste and the cleanliness the paste gives. As with all products they try and get you to buy new ones and I would reccomend this tooth paste. It has a clean and fresh taste, it has helped reduce staining and freshens the mouth all day. The price is not to expensive and lasts very well as you do not need too much paste to give your teeth a really good clean. As part of a healthy mouth regime I would ...

Advantages: Easy to use with nice flavouring Disadvantages: Will fade after a few hours
Now in the past we have all been through our fare share of toothpastes each promising different ways to keep your teeth white. Years ago all of the dental care companies would stick to keeping your teeth white and would not add in any additional qualities. These days thanks to the modern market and competition between dental care companies you can get a range of toothpaste each with their own uses. Toothpastes, which make your teeth clean and bright, toothpastes, which make your breath fresh for hours, toothpastes that give your teeth artificial whitening and lots more.
Thanks to Colgate the nation now has available a toothpaste which does all of the above and has managed to make it taste nice as well. The product is called ColgateTotalPlusWhitening, which is an upgrade from the previous ColgateWhitening toothpaste.

Having to cope with bad breath is absolutely a pain in the bum. Ever since I started drinking coffee I have had to cope with it. I can't cope with Bad Breath yet I cannot cope without coffee - A never ending cycle, or so I thought. You see, one day I came across a brand new toothpaste called ColgateTotalPlusWhitening.
I decided to try this but all of a sudden, the first downer came along - price. I mean would you pay in excess of £1.40 for a 50ml tube of paste. Anyway, once I had recovered from the shock, I decided to buy it and got it home and all that monkey business.
The next morning, I tried it for the first time after I had had my breakfast and COFFEE! Anyway, I did what it said on the side, which was to use a pea sized amount and stuck it on my tooth brush. I then proceeded to brush my teeth for five minutes and my ...
