Colin won an unprecedented seventh successive Volvo Order of Merit title at the end of an outstanding season which culminated in him being voted the Asprey and Garrard Golfer of the Year for the fourth time in five years. He's won five European Tour titles as well as the Cisco World Match Play Championship. Won in his native Scotland for the first time by capturing the Standard Life Loch Lomond and defended his Volvo PGA crown. Also set a record for European earnings - £1.3m. He beat the late Payne Stewart on the last green to maintain unbeaten record in five Ryder Cup singles. Born in Scotland, raised in Yorkshire where father, James, was a company director. Colin has not had the best of luck at the majors and three times he was within grasp of claiming his first ever major. Lost out in play-off for 1994 US Open, and runner-up again to Ernie Els in 1997. Also defeated in sudden death by Steve Elkington for the US PGA title in 1995.
Colin's biggest desire is to win a major tournament. They call Monty Mrs Doubtfire in the states due to his temper and is unjustifiably goaded by spectators in the US. Never underestimate Colin as he is one of the finest golfers Europe has ever produced.
